To obtain a true understanding of this word these scriptures need to be meditated on and notes made of their meaning in different contexts. This requires putting scriptures together where they seem to have a similar meaning, and then meditating even more. The truth will be revealed by the Holy Spirit, who has been given to guide us into all truth (John 16:13). Wherever this word berit appears in the Hebrew, the translation of it is highlighted with bold type and underline. In Hebrew the suffixes and some prepositions are added to the basic word to enhance the meaning, and where this has been done the meaning of the suffix or preposition has been included in highlighted text. creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:

14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and
the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant
between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.

flesh that is upon the earth.

you.

12 And he who is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he who is born in
the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of your seed.
13 He that is born in your house, and he who is bought with your money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant
shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.

he has broken my covenant.

will do with you.
12 Take heed to yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither you go, lest it be
for a snare in the midst of you:

25 And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall avenge the quarrel of my covenant: and when you are
gathered together within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you; and you shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.
26:42 Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and
also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.

accept of the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they despised my judgments, and because their soul abhorred my statutes.

destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God.

your seed with you.
25:10 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my
sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

you.

you, neither destroy you, nor forget
the covenant of your fathers which he swore unto them.

7:2 And when the LORD your God shall deliver them before you;
you shall smite them, and utterly destroy
them; you shall make no covenant with them, nor show mercy unto them:
7:9 Know therefore that the LORD your God, he is God, the faithful God, which keeps covenant and
mercy with those who love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;
10 And repayeth those who hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hates him, he will repay him to his face.
11 You shall therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command
you this day, to do them.
12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, if you hearken to these
judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD your God shall keep unto you the covenant and the mercy which he swore unto your fathers:
8:18 But you shall remember the LORD your God: for it is he that gives
you power to get wealth, that he may
establish his covenant which he swore unto your fathers, as it is this day.
9:8 Also in Horeb you provoked the LORD to wrath, so that the LORD was angry with you to have destroyed you.

to all the words, which the LORD spoke with you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.
11 And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the LORD gave me the two tables of stone, even

you, man or woman, that has

29:1 These are the words of the covenant, which the LORD commanded Moses to make with the children
of Israel in the land of Moab, beside the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.

12 That you should enter into covenant with the LORD your God, and into his oath, which the LORD your
God makes with you this day:
13 That he may establish you to day for a people unto himself, and that he may be unto
you a God, as he has said to you, and as he has sworn unto your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
14 Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath;
15 But with him that stands here with us this day before the LORD our God, and also with him that is not
here with us this day:
29:21 And the LORD shall separate him unto evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the
covenant that are written in this book of the law: (Numbers 33:50-36:13)
25 Then men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he

after the gods of the strangers of the land, whither they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant
which I have made with them.
31:20 For when I shall have brought them into the land which I swore unto their fathers, that floweth with milk and
honey; and they shall have eaten and filled themselves, and waxen fat; then will they turn unto other gods, and serve them, and provoke me, and break
my covenant.

cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remains under curtains.
22:19 Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise therefore, and build you the sanctuary of the LORD
God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the LORD.
28:2 Then David the king stood up upon his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren, and my people: As for me, I
had in my heart to build an house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and for the footstool of our God, and had made
ready for the building:
18 And for the altar of incense refined gold by weight; and gold for the pattern of the chariot of the cherubims, that spread
out their wings, and covered the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
2 Chronicles 5:2 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the
children of Israel, unto Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is Zion.
7 And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place, to the oracle of the house,
into the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims:
6:11 And in it have I put the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, that he made with the
children of Israel.
14 And said, O LORD God of Israel, there is no God like
you in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest
covenant, and shewest mercy unto your servants, that walk before
you with all their hearts:
13:5 Ought you not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him
and to his sons by a covenant of salt?
15:12 And they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD God of their fathers with all their heart and
with all their soul;
16:3 There is a covenant between me and
you, as there was between my father and your father:
behold, I have sent you silver and gold; go, break your covenant with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.
21:7 However the LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with
David, and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons for ever.
8 In his days the Edomites revolted from under the dominion of Judah, and made themselves a king.
23:1 And in the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and took the captains of hundreds, Azariah the son of
Jeroham, and Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, and Azariah the son of Obed, and Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri, into
covenant with him.
2 And they went about in Judah, and gathered the Levites out of all the cities of Judah, and the chief of the fathers of
Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.
3 And all the congregation made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And he said to them,
Behold, the king’s son shall reign, as the LORD has said of the sons of David.
16 And Jehoiada made a covenant between him, and between all the people, and between the king, that they should
be the LORD’S people.
29:10 Now it is in my heart to make a covenant with the LORD God of Israel, that his fierce wrath
may turn away from us.
34:30 And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the
priests, and the Levites, and all the people, great and small: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was
found in the house of the LORD.
31 And the king stood in his place, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his
commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant which
are written in this book.
32 And he caused all that were present in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand to it. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem
did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.
Ezra 10:3 Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law.
Nehemiah 1:5 And said, I beseech you, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keeps covenant and
mercy for those who love him and observe his commandments:
9:8 And foundest his heart faithful before you, and madest a covenant with him to give the land of the
Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Jebusites, and the Girgashites, to give it, I say, to his seed, and have performed
your words; for you are righteous:
9:32 Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, who keepest covenant and mercy, let
not all the trouble seem little before you, that has come upon us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our
fathers, and on all your people, since the time of the kings of Assyria unto this day.
13:29 Remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood,
and of the Levites.

the field shall be at peace with you.

you? will you take him for a servant for ever?

testimonies.

44:17 All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten you, neither have we dealt falsely in your covenant.
50:5 Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.
16 But unto the wicked God says, What have you to do to declare my statutes, or that you should take my
covenant in your mouth?
55:20 He has put forth his hands against such as be at peace with him: he has broken his covenant.
74:20 Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty.
78:10 They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;
37 For their heart was not right with him, neither were they steadfast in his covenant.
83:5 For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate (Lit. they have made
a covenant) against you:
89:3 I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant,
28 My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.
34 My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
39 You have made void the covenant of your servant: you have profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.
103:18 To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.
105:8 He has remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations.
9 Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac;
10 And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant:
106:45 And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.
111:5 He has given meat unto those who fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant.
9 He sent redemption unto his people: he has commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.
132:12 If your children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall
also sit upon your throne for evermore.

ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.
28:15 Because you have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the
overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:
18 And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the
overflowing scourge shall pass through, then you shall be trodden down by it.
33:8 The highways lie waste, the wayfaring man ceaseth: he has broken the covenant, he has despised the
cities, he regardeth no man.
42:6 I the LORD have called you in righteousness, and will hold your hand, and will keep
you, and give you for
a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
49:8 Thus says the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard
you, and in a day of salvation have I helped you: and I will
preserve you, and give you for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages;
54:10 For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from
you, neither shall
the covenant of my peace be removed, says the LORD that has mercy on
you.
55:3 Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant
with you, even the sure mercies of David.
56:4 For thus says the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and
take hold of my covenant;
5 Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will
give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.
6 Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be
his servants, every one that keeps the sabbath from polluting it, and takes hold of my covenant;
59:21 As for me, this is my covenant with them, says the LORD; My spirit that is upon
you,
and my words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, nor out of the mouth of your seed, nor out of the mouth of your seed’s seed, says
the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.
61:8 For I the LORD love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will
make an everlasting covenant with them.
Jeremiah 3:16 And it shall come to pass, when you be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, says the LORD, they shall
say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit
it; neither shall that be done any more.
11:1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
2 Hear you the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;
3 And say you unto them, Thus says the LORD God of Israel; Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this
covenant,
4 Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace,
saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall you be my people, and I will be your God: (Jeremiah 34:13-14)
5 That I may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as
it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O LORD.
6 Then the LORD said to me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying,
Hear you the words of this covenant, and do them.
7 For I earnestly protested unto your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even
unto this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.
8 Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the imagination of their evil heart: therefore I will
bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do; but they did them not.
9 And the LORD said to me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
11:10 They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went
after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
14:21 Do not abhor us, for your name’s sake, do not disgrace the throne of your glory: remember, break not your
covenant with us.
22:9 Then they shall answer, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD their God, and worshipped
other gods, and served them.
31:31 Behold, the days come, says the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel,
and with the house of Judah:
32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to
bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, says the LORD:
(34:13-14)
33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, says the LORD,
I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
32:40 And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them
good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.
Jeremiah 33:20 Thus says the LORD; If you can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the
night, and that there should not be day and night in their season;
21 Then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he should not have a son to reign upon his
throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers.
25 Thus says the LORD; If my covenant be not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the
ordinances of heaven and earth;
34:8 This is the word that came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, after that the king Zedekiah had made a
covenant with all the people which were at Jerusalem, to proclaim liberty unto them;
9 That every man should let his manservant, and every man his maidservant, being an Hebrew or an Hebrewess, go free; that
none should serve himself of them, to wit, of a Jew his brother.
34:10 Now when all the princes, and all the people, which had entered into the covenant, heard that every one
should let his manservant, and every one his maidservant, go free, that none should serve themselves of them any more, then they obeyed, and let them go.
11 But afterward they turned, and caused the servants and the handmaids, whom they had let go free, to return, and brought
them into subjection for servants and for handmaids.
12 Therefore the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
13 Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel; I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them
forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondmen, saying, (Jeremiah 31:32)
14 At the end of seven years let you go every man his brother an Hebrew, which has been sold unto
you; and when he has
served you six years, you shall let him go free from you: but your fathers hearkened not unto me, neither inclined their ear.
15 And you were now turned, and had done right in my sight, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbour; and you had made
a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:
16 But you turned and polluted my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom you had set at
liberty at their pleasure, to return, and brought them into subjection, to be unto you for servants and for handmaids.
17 Therefore thus says the LORD; You have not hearkened unto me, in proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother, and every
man to his neighbour: behold, I proclaim a liberty for you, says the LORD, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be
removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.
18 And I will give the men that have transgressed my covenant, which have not performed the words of
the covenant which they had made before me, when they cut the calf in two, and passed between the parts thereof,
19 The princes of Judah, and the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs, and the priests, and all the people of the land, which
passed between the parts of the calf;
50:5 They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces thitherward, saying, Come, and let us join ourselves to the
LORD in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten.
Ezekiel 16:8 Now when I passed by you, and looked upon
you, behold, your time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt
over you, and covered your nakedness: yes, I swore unto you, and entered into a covenant with
you, says the Lord GOD, and you becamest
mine.
59 For thus says the Lord GOD; I will even deal with you as you have done, which have despised the oath in breaking the
covenant.
16:60 Nevertheless I will remember my covenant with
you in the days of your youth, and I will establish unto
you an everlasting covenant.
61 Then you shall remember your ways, and be ashamed, when you
shall receive your sisters, thine elder and your younger: and I
will give them unto you for daughters, but not by your covenant.
62 And I will establish my covenant with
you; and you shall know that I am the LORD:
63 That you may remember, and be confounded, and never open your mouth any more because of your shame, when I am
pacified toward you for all that you have done, says the Lord GOD.
17:13 And has taken of the king’s seed, and made a covenant with him, and has taken an oath of him: he
has also taken the mighty of the land:
14 That the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping of his covenant
it might stand.
15 But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall
he prosper? shall he escape that doeth such things? or shall he break the covenant, and be delivered?
16 As I live, says the Lord GOD, surely in the place where the king dwelleth that made him king, whose
oath he despised, and whose covenant he brake, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die.
17 Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company make for him in the war, by casting up mounts, and
building forts, to cut off many persons:
18 Seeing he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, when, lo, he had given his hand, and has done all
these things, he shall not escape.
19 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; As I live, surely mine oath that he has despised, and my covenant
that he has broken, even it will I recompense upon his own head.
20:37 And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant:
30:5 Ethiopia, and Libya, and Lydia, and all the mingled people, and Chub, and the men of the land that is in
covenant (Lit. of the covenant), shall fall with them by the sword.
34:25 And I will make with them a covenant of peace, and will cause the evil beasts to cease out of the
land: and they shall dwell safely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods.
37:26 Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting
covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore.
44:7 In that you have brought into my sanctuary strangers, uncircumcised in heart, and uncircumcised in flesh, to
be in my sanctuary, to pollute it, even my house, when you offer my bread, the fat and the blood, and they have broken my covenant
because of all your abominations.
Daniel 9:4 And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping
the covenant and mercy to those who love him, and to
those who keep his commandments;
27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the
sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that
determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
11:22 And with the arms of a flood shall they be overflown from before him, and shall be broken; yes, also the prince of
the covenant.
28 Then shall he return into his land with great riches; and his heart shall be against the holy covenant;
and he shall do exploits, and return to his own land.
29 At the time appointed he shall return, and come toward the south; but it shall not be as the former, or as the latter.
11:30 For the ships of Chittim shall come against him: therefore he shall be grieved, and return, and have indignation
against the holy covenant: so shall he do; he shall even return, and have intelligence with those who forsake the holy
covenant.
31 And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily
sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that makes desolate.
32 And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know
their God shall be strong, and do exploits.
Hosea 2:18 And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, and with the
fowls of heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground: and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the earth, and will make them to lie
down safely.
6:7 But they like men have transgressed the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously against me.
8:1 Set the trumpet to your mouth. He shall come as an eagle against the house of the LORD, because they have
transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.
10:4 They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment springeth up as
hemlock in the furrows of the field.
12:1 Ephraim feedeth on wind, and follows after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make
a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.
Amos 1:9 Thus says the LORD; For three transgressions of Tyrus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant:
Obadiah 1:7 All the men of your confederacy have brought you even to the border: the men that were at peace with you have deceived you, and prevailed against you; those who eat your bread have laid a wound under you: there is none understanding in him.
Zechariah 9:11 As for you also, by the blood of your covenant I have sent forth your prisoners out of the pit wherein
is no water.
11:10 And I took my staff, even Beauty, and cut it asunder, that I might break my covenant which I
had made with all the people.
Malachi 2:4 And you shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with
Levi, says the LORD of hosts.
5 My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear wherewith he feared
me, and was afraid before my name.
8 But you are departed out of the way; you have caused many to stumble at the law; you have corrupted the covenant
of Levi, says the LORD of hosts.
9 Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as you have not kept my ways, but have
been partial in the law.
2:10 Have we not all one father? has not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother,
by profaning the covenant of our fathers?
14 Yet you say, Wherefore? Because the LORD has been witness between
you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have
dealt treacherously: yet is she your companion, and the wife of your covenant.
3:1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom you seek, shall suddenly
come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom you delight in: behold, he shall come, says the LORD of hosts.
