Introduction 2.2

This is a thorough bible study about the meaning of the Greek word ἄνθρωπος, 'anthropos' meaning 'man'. It includes every verse where the word 'anthropos' (Strong's 444) appears in the New Testament from Matthew to Luke. To obtain a true understanding of this word these scriptures need to be meditated on and notes made of their meaning in different contexts. This requires putting scriptures together where they seem to have a similar meaning, and then meditating even more. The truth will be revealed by the Holy Spirit, who has been given to guide us into all truth (John 16:13). Wherever this word anthropos appears in the Greek, the translation of it is highlighted with yellow. In Greek , with the exception of case endings, the suffixes and prepositions are not added to the basic word as in Hebrew, so these have not been been included in highlighted text. Every blessing be to those who seek the truth of God's word.

#2.2 Scriptures for ἄνθρωπος 'anthropos' meaning 'Man' Strong's 444 Matthew to Luke

Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.
4:19 And he says to them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
5:13 You are the salt of the earth: but if the salt has lost its taste, with what shall it be salted? It is from then on good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
5:19 Whoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
6:1 Take heed that you do not do your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise you have no reward of your Father who is in heaven.
6:2 Therefore when you do your alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Amen I say to you, They have their reward.
6:5 And when you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Amen I say to you, They have their reward.
6:14 For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
6:15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, nor will your Father forgive your trespasses.
6:16 And when you fast, do not be, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear to men to fast. Amen I say to you, They have their reward.
6:17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face;
6:18 That you do not appear to men to fast, but to your Father who is in secret: and your Father, who sees in secret, shall reward you openly.
7:9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
7:12 Therefore all things whatever you would that men should do to you, you do even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
8:9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my servant, Do this, and he does it.
8:20 And Jesus says to him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head.
8:27 But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!
9:6 But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins, (then he says to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.
9:8 But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, who had given such authority to men.
9:9 And as Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the tax-office: and he says to him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.
9:32 As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a demon.
10:17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;
10:23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee you into another: for amen I say to you, You shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, until the Son of man comes.
10:32 Whoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father who is in heaven.
10:33 But whoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father who is in heaven.
10:35 For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
10:36 And a man's enemies shall be those of his own household.
11:8 But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.
11:19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a wine drinker, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
12:8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath day.
12:10 And, behold, there was a man who had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath days? So that they might accuse him.
12:11 And he said to them, What man shall there be among you, who shall have one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
12:12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do well on the Sabbath days.
12:13 Then he says to the man, Stretch forth your hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.
12:31 Therefore I say to you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven to men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit shall not be forgiven to men.
12:32 And whoever speaks a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this age, nor in the age to come.
12:35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart brings forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.
12:36 But I say to you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account of it in the day of judgment.
12:40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
12:43 When the unclean spirit goes out of a man, he walks through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none.
12:45 Then goes he, and takes with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also to this wicked generation.
13:24 Another parable he put forth to them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field:
13:25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
13:28 He said to them, An enemy, a man has done this. The servants said to him, Will you then that we go and gather them up?
13:31 Another parable he put forth to them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:
13:37 He answered and said to them, He who sows the good seed is the Son of man;
13:41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness;
13:44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field; the which when a man has found, he hides, and for joy of it goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field.
13:45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant man, seeking beautiful pearls:
13:52 Then he said to them, Therefore every scribe who is instructed to the kingdom of heaven is like a man who is a householder, who brings forth out of his treasure things new and old.
15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
15:11 Not that which goes into the mouth defiles a man; but that which comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.
15:18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
15:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
15:20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man.
16:13 When Jesus came into the borders of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
16:23 But he turned, and said to Peter, Get behind me, Satan: you are an offence to me: for you do not savour the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
16:27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
16:28 Amen I say to you, There are some standing here, who shall not taste of death, until they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
17:9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man has been raised from the dead.
17:12 But I say to you, That Elijah has come already, and they did not know him, but have done to him whatever they desired. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.
17:14 And when they came to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,
17:22 And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said to them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:
18:7 Woe to the world because of offences! For it is necessary that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence comes!
18:11 For the Son of man came to save that which was lost.
18:12 How do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety nine, and go into the mountains, and seek that which has gone astray?
18:23 Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king, who would take account of his servants.
19:3 The Pharisees also came to him, tempting him, and saying to him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every reason?
19:5 And said, For the sake of this a man shall leave father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife: and those two shall be one flesh?
19:6 Therefore they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, do not let man separate.
19:10 His disciples say to him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry.
19:12 For there are some eunuchs, who were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, who were made eunuchs by men: and there are eunuchs, who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He who is able to receive it, let him receive it.
19:26 But Jesus looked at them, and said to them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
19:28 And Jesus said to them, Amen I say to you, You who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
20:1 For the kingdom of heaven is like a man, a householder, who went out early in the morning to hire labourers for his vineyard.
20:18 Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death,
20:28 Even as the Son of man did not come to be ministered to, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
21:25 The baptism of John, where was it from? From heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say to us, Why did you not then believe him?
21:26 But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet.
21:28 But what do you think? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work today in my vineyard.
21:33 Hear another parable: There was a certain (a certain man) householder, who planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and dug a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to vinedressers, and went into a far country:
22:2 The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king, who made a marriage for his son,
22:11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who did not have on a wedding garment:
22:16 And they sent their disciples out to him with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that you are true, and teach the way of God in truth, nor do you care for any man: for you do not regard the person of men.
23:4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
23:5 But all their works they do in order to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
23:7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
23:13 But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you let those who are entering to go in.
23:28 Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but within you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
24:27 For as the lightning comes out of the east, and shines even to the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
24:37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
24:39 And did not know until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
24:44 Therefore you also be ready: for in such an hour as you do not think the Son of man comes.
25:13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of man comes.
25:14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered to them his goods.
25:24 Then he who had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew you that you are a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered:
25:31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
26:2 You know that after two days the Passover comes, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.
26:24 The Son of man goes as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It had been good for that man if he had not been born.
26:45 Then comes he to his disciples, and says to them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is near, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
26:64 Jesus says to him, You have said: nevertheless I say to you, After this shall you see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
26:72 And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.
26:74 Then he began to curse and to swear, saying, I do not know the man. And immediately the cock crew.
27:32 And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.
27:57 When the evening came, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:

Mark 1:17 And Jesus said to them, You come after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
1:23 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,
2:10 But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins, (he says to the sick of the palsy,)
2:27 And he said to them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath:
2:28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath.
3:1 And he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there who had a withered hand.
3:3 And he says to the man who had the withered hand, Arise, and come into the midst.
3:5 And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he says to the man, Stretch out your hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
3:28 Amen I say to you, All sins shall be forgiven to the sons of men, and blasphemies whatever they shall blaspheme:
4:26 And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;
5:2 And when he came out of the boat, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
5:8 For he said to him, Come out of the man, you unclean spirit.
7:7 However in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
7:8 For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things you do.
7:11 But you say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatever you might be profited by me; he shall be free.
7:15 There is nothing from outside a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are the things which defile the man.
7:18 And he says to them, Are you so without understanding also? Do you not perceive, that whatever thing from outside enters into the man, it cannot defile him;
7:20 And he said, That which comes out of the man, that defiles the man.
7:21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
7:22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
7:23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.
8:24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
8:27 And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying to them, Whom do men say that I am?
8:31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
8:33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get behind me, Satan: for you do not savour the things that are of God, but the things that are of men.
8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
8:37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
8:38 Whoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
9:9 And as they came down from the mountain, he commanded them that they should not tell any man what things they had seen, until the Son of man was raised from the dead.
9:12 And he answered and told them, Elijah indeed comes first, and restores all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nothing.
9:31 For he taught his disciples, and said to them, The Son of man is being delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.
10:7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife;
10:9 What therefore God has joined together, do not let man separate.
10:27 And Jesus looking upon them says, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
10:33 Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered to the chief priests, and to the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:
10:45 For even the Son of man did not come to be ministered to, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
11:2 And says to them, Go your way into the village opposite you: and as soon as you enter into it, you shall find a colt tied, upon which no man has sat; loose him, and bring him.
11:30 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? Answer me.
11:32 But if we shall say, Of men; they feared the people: for all men counted John, that he was a prophet indeed.
12:1 And he began to speak to them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and dug a place for the wine-vat, and built a tower, and let it out to vinedressers, and went into a far country.
12:14 And when they came, they say to him, Teacher, we know that you are true, and care for no man: for you do not regard the person of men, but teach the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
13:26 And then they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
13:34 For (the Son of man) is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.
14:13 And he sends two of his disciples, and says to them, You go into the city, and a man shall meet you carrying a pitcher of water: follow him.
14:21 The Son of man indeed goes, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It was good for that man if he had not been born.
14:41 And he comes the third time, and says to them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour has come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
14:62 And Jesus said, I am: and you shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
14:71 But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I do not know this man of whom you speak.
15:39 And when the centurion, who stood opposite him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the spirit, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.

Luke 1:25 Thus has the Lord dealt with me in the days in which he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.
2:14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will towards men.
2:15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, (the men) the shepherds said to one another, Let us now go even to Bethlehem, and see this thing which has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.
2:25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
4:33 And in the synagogue there was a man, who had a spirit of an unclean demon, and cried out with a loud voice,
5:10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, Do not be afraid; from now on you shall catch men.
5:18 And, behold, men brought in a bed a man who was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.
5:20 And when he saw their faith, he said to him, Man, your sins are forgiven you.
5:24 But that you may know that the Son of man has authority upon earth to forgive sins, (he said to the sick of the palsy,) I say to you, Arise, and take up your couch, and go into your house.
6:5 And he said to them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath.
6:6 And it came to pass also on another Sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.
6:8 But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man who had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And when he had risen up, he stood in the midst.
6:10 And looking round about upon them all, he said to the man, Stretch forth your hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
6:22 Blessed are you, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
6:26 Woe to you, when all men shall speak well of you! For so did their fathers to the false prophets.
6:31 And as you would that men should do to you, do you also to them likewise.
6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
6:48 He is like a man who built a house, and dug deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
6:49 But he who hears, and does not, is like a man who without a foundation built a house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
7:8 For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say to one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my servant, Do this, and he does it.
7:25 But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft clothing? Behold, those who are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings' courts.
7:31 And the Lord said, To what then shall I liken the men of this generation? And to what are they like?
7:34 The Son of man has come eating and drinking; and you say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a wine drinker, a friend of publicans and sinners!
8:29 (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he broke the bands, and was driven of the demon into the wilderness.)
