Introduction 3.1

This is a word study about the meaning of the Greek word γέεννα, 'geenna' or 'gehenna' (Strong's 1067) meaning 'Hell' or the 'lake of fire'. It gives every verse where the word 'gehenna' appears in the New Testament, and every reference to the 'lake of fire'. To obtain a true understanding of this word these scriptures need to be meditated on and notes made of their meaning in different contexts. This requires putting scriptures together where they seem to have a similar meaning, and then meditating even more. The truth will be revealed by the Holy Spirit, who has been given to guide us into all truth (John 16:13). Wherever this word gehenna appears in the Greek, the translation of it is highlighted with yellow. In Greek the suffixes and some prepositions are not added to the basic word to enhance the meaning, except for case endings, so the associated suffix or preposition has not been included in highlighted text. Every blessing be to those who seek the truth of God's word.

Matthew 5:22 But I say to you, That whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whoever shall say, You fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
5:29 And if your right eye offends you, pluck it out, and cast it from you: for it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should be cast into hell.

23:15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you go about sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, you make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
23:33 You serpents, generation of vipers, how can you escape the condemnation of hell?

Mark 9:43 And if your hand offends you, cut it off: it is better for you to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
9:44 Where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.
9:45 And if your foot offends you, cut it off: it is better for you to enter into life lame, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

9:47 And if your eye offends you, pluck it out: it is better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:
