LOGOS APOSTOLIC ORPHAN AID IN TANZANIA

Here are the pictures of some of the widows and orphans in Tanzania that Logos is helping.

1. Widow Rose Akinyi

A picture of widow Rose Akinyi with orphans

Left to right: Shadrack Odhiambo (Aug 1996), Linet Mummy, Mourice Majuto, Beatrise Samuel (8 years) carrying a new-born baby, Devota Atieno, Rehema Anyango (Dec 1998), Dancun Otieno Maiga (May 1999), Roney Odhiambo (April 1998), and Rose Akinyi (Right), who is the mother of Shadrack, Beatrise, Devota, and twins.

Rose Akinyi and her husband Caleb had a prosperous business in Tanzania, near the border of Kenya. They had 3 children, and Rose was pregnant with twins. But in 2006 Caleb became ill, and couldn't continue to run his business. With 3 children and a sick husband to look after, and also her old mother in law Dorice Musa, and getting towards the late stages of her pregnancy, Rose could not look after the business either, and it collapsed, leaving them in great need. Logos began to help, but on 29 July 2006 Caleb died, leaving Rose alone to cope with the children. A few weeks later Rose gave birth to twin daughters (below).

As if the situation was not bad enough, things got worse. Two years before Rose and her husband Caleb had borrowed a sum of money from a local business man to help their business. They should have been able to pay it back easily, but with Caleb being sick and the business failing, payments had not been made. Realizing that he would not get his money back, the local business man came with the police and with guns and arrested Rose and put her in prison with her recently born twins. Logos church rallied round in all their countries and managed to raise enough to get Rose out of prison, and since then Logos has been supporting Rose and her children until we can find a way to enable her to help herself.

2. Widow Doris Musa

A picture of widow Doris Musa

This is the widow Doris Musa (centre), who looks after the orphan children from her dead daughters, whose fathers are also dead. Two of them here are Dancun Otieno Maiga (left) born May 1999, and Mourice Majuto (right). At this time this picture was taken, Doris was living in a leaky thatched roof house, which causes problems when it rains. She tries to help herself and the orphans by making ropes, but without help it is a meagre existence. Logos is now helping to feed and cloth Doris and the orphans under her care. Doris is the mother-in-law of Rose Akinyi.
