RP301 #4. HOW TO INTERPRET SCRIPTURE INDEXIntroduction 4When we have understood how to get the truth from the word of God, and how to rightly divide the word of God, then we must next look at how to interpret it. Again, we must lay aside our own logic and reason, and ask God in faith to give us understanding (James 1:5-7). Scripture is written in such a way that only God can show us what it means, but in his word he has set certain principles which we can apply to scripture in order to obtain the correct interpretation. Whenever we attempt to interpret scripture we must therefore apply these principles, and check to see if we are breaking any of them before we accept an interpretation. There are no short cuts. To obtain the correct interpretation requires diligent study and patience, but if we study God's word the correct way then we should all come to the correct, and the same understanding. The reason why there are so many false doctrines and false teachers in the world today is because people are not studying the word of God the correct way. There are many today who are, "Always learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth." (2 Timothy 3:7). I encourage everyone who looks at this study to carefully and prayerfully consider the following principles on how to interpret the word of God, and God bless you as you do.
