#4.08 JESUS IS LORD OF THE SABBATH DAY

Note: The suggestion is that because Jesus was "Lord of the Sabbath", he did not have to keep it, and therefore we do not have to keep it either. This is really no argument, because although he did not condemn breaking the letter of the law when there was a human need (See #3.14), he kept it himself.
(Mark 6:2) "And when the Sabbath day came, he began to teach in the synagogue:"
(Luke 4:16) "And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath
day, and stood up to read."
(Luke 4:31) "And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the Sabbath days."
(Luke 6:6) "And it came to pass on another Sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught."
(Luke 13:10) "And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath."
Now if this is how the Lord of the Sabbath kept the Sabbath Day, then why are modern Christians not following his example? Surely he gave us an example that we should follow him. Jesus fulfilled the spirit of the law (See #1.22; #1.24), and taught others to keep the law (See #1.23; #1.25). Also we are meant to be like Jesus (See #1.24 Note 1), so there is no proof here that we should not keep the Sabbath day.
