This is a thorough bible study about the meaning of the Hebrew word שְׁאוֹל, Sheol (Strong's 7585) translated Hell and the Grave. It gives every verse where the word "sheol" appears in the Old Testament. This requires putting scriptures together where they seem to have a similar meaning, and then meditating even more. Genesis 37:35 And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down into the grave to my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him.
42:38 And he said, My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he is left alone: if mischief befall him by the way in the which you go, then shall you bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave.

Hosea 13:14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be your plagues; O grave, I will be your destruction: repentance shall be hid from my eyes.
Amos 9:2 Though they dig into Sheol, from there shall my hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, from there will I bring them down:
Jonah 2:2 And said, I cried by reason of my affliction to Yahweh, and he heard me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and you heard my voice.
Habakkuk 2:5 Yes also, because he transgresses by wine, he is a proud man, neither does he keep at home, who enlarges his desire as Sheol, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathers to him all nations, and heaps to him all people:
