1 JOHN CHAPTER 4

Latin VulgateGreek Textus ReceptusEnglish King James
1 John 4:1agaphtoi mh panti pneumati pisteuete alla dokimazete ta pneumata ei ek tou qeou estin oti polloi yeudoprofhtai ecelhluqasin eij ton kosmon 1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
4:2 In hoc cognoscitur Spiritus Dei: omnis spiritus qui confitetur Jesum Christum in carne venisse, ex Deo est: 4:2 en toutw ginwskete to pneuma tou qeou pan pneuma o omologei ihsoun xriston en sarki elhluqota ek tou qeou estin 4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
4:3 et omnis spiritus qui solvit Jesum, ex Deo non est, et hic est antichristus, de quo audistis quoniam venit, et nunc jam in mundo est. 4:3 kai pan pneuma o mh omologei ton ihsoun xriston en sarki elhluqota ek tou qeou ouk estin kai touto estin to tou antixristou o akhkoate oti erxetai kai nun en tw kosmw estin hdh 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4:4 umeij ek tou qeou este teknia kai nenikhkate autouj oti meizwn estin o en umin h o en tw kosmw 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
4:5 autoi ek tou kosmou eisin dia touto ek tou kosmou lalousin kai o kosmoj autwn akouei 4:5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
4:6 hmeij ek tou qeou esmen o ginwskwn ton qeon akouei hmwn oj ouk estin ek tou qeou ouk akouei hmwn ek toutou ginwskomen to pneuma thj alhqeiaj kai to pneuma thj planhj 4:6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
4:7 agaphtoi agapwmen allhlouj oti h agaph ek tou qeou estin kai paj o agapwn ek tou qeou gegennhtai kai ginwskei ton qeon 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
4:8 o mh agapwn ouk egnw ton qeon oti o qeoj agaph estin 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
4:9 en toutw efanerwqh h agaph tou qeou en hmin oti ton uion autou ton monogenh apestalken o qeoj eij ton kosmon ina zhswmen di autou 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
1 John 4:10 en toutw estin h agaph oux oti hmeij hgaphsamen ton qeon all oti autoj hgaphsen hmaj kai apesteilen ton uion autou ilasmon peri twn amartiwn hmwn 1 John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
4:11 agaphtoi ei outwj o qeoj hgaphsen hmaj kai hmeij ofeilomen allhlouj agapan 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
4:12 Deum nemo vidit umquam. 4:12 qeon oudeij pwpote teqeatai ean agapwmen allhlouj o qeoj en hmin menei kai h agaph autou teteleiwmenh estin en hmin 4:12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
4:13 en toutw ginwskomen oti en autw menomen kai autoj en hmin oti ek tou pneumatoj autou dedwken hmin 4:13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
4:14 Et nos vidimus, et testificamur quoniam Pater misit Filium suum Salvatorem mundi. 4:14 kai hmeij teqeameqa kai marturoumen oti o pathr apestalken ton uion swthra tou kosmou 4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
4:15 Quisquis confessus fuerit quoniam Jesus est Filius Dei, Deus in eo manet, et ipse in Deo. 4:15 oj an omologhsh oti ihsouj estin o uioj tou qeou o qeoj en autw menei kai autoj en tw qew 4:15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
Deus caritas est: et qui manet in caritate, in Deo manet, et Deus in eo. 4:16 kai hmeij egnwkamen kai pepisteukamen thn agaphn hn exei o qeoj en hmin o qeoj agaph estin kai o menwn en th agaph en tw qew menei kai o qeoj en autw 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
4:17 en toutw teteleiwtai h agaph meq hmwn ina parrhsian exwmen en th hmera thj krisewj oti kaqwj ekeinoj estin kai hmeij esmen en tw kosmw toutw 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
4:18 foboj ouk estin en th agaph all h teleia agaph ecw ballei ton fobon oti o foboj kolasin exei o de foboumenoj ou teteleiwtai en th agaph 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
4:19 Nos ergo diligamus Deum, quoniam Deus prior dilexit nos. 4:19 hmeij agapwmen auton oti autoj prwtoj hgaphsen hmaj 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.
1 John 4:20 ean tij eiph oti agapw ton qeon kai ton adelfon autou mish yeusthj estin o gar mh agapwn ton adelfon autou on ewraken ton qeon on oux ewraken pwj dunatai agapan 1 John 4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
4:21 kai tauthn thn entolhn exomen ap autou ina o agapwn ton qeon agapa kai ton adelfon autou 4:21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
