1 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER 12

Latin Vulgate Greek Received Text English King James
1 Corinthians 12:1 De spiritualibus autem, nolo vos ignorare fratres. 1 Corinthians 12:1 peri de twn pneumatikwn adelfoi ou qelw umaj agnoein 1 Corinthians 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
12:2 oidate oti eqnh hte proj ta eidwla ta afwna wj an hgesqe apagomenoi 12:2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.
12:3 Ideo notum vobis facio, quod nemo in Spiritu Dei loquens, dicit anathema Jesu. Et nemo potest dicere, Dominus Jesus, nisi in Spiritu Sancto. 12:3 dio gnwrizw umin oti oudeij en pneumati qeou lalwn legei anaqema ihsoun kai oudeij dunatai eipein kurion ihsoun ei mh en pneumati agiw 12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
12:6 kai diaireseij energhmatwn eisin o de autoj estin qeoj o energwn ta panta en pasin 12:6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
12:7 Unicuique autem datur manifestatio Spiritus ad utilitatem. 12:7 ekastw de didotai h fanerwsij tou pneumatoj proj to sumferon 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
12:8 Alii quidem per Spiritum datur sermo sapientiæ: alii autem sermo scientiæ secundum eumdem Spiritum: 12:8 w men gar dia tou pneumatoj didotai logoj sofiaj allw de logoj gnwsewj kata to auto pneuma 12:8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
12:9 alteri fides in eodem Spiritu: alii gratia sanitatum in uno Spiritu: 12:9 eterw de pistij en tw autw pneumati allw de xarismata iamatwn en tw autw pneumati 12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
1 Corinthians 12:10 alii operatio virtutum, alii prophetia, alii discretio spirituum, alii genera linguarum, alii interpretatio sermonum. 1 Corinthians 12:10 allw de energhmata dunamewn allw de profhteia allw de diakriseij pneumatwn eterw de genh glwsswn allw de ermhneia glwsswn 1 Corinthians 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
12:11 Hæc autem omnia operantur unus atque idem Spiritus, dividens singulis prout vult. 12:11 panta de tauta energei to en kai to auto pneuma diairoun idia ekastw kaqwj bouletai 12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
12:12 kaqaper gar to swma en estin kai melh exei polla panta de ta melh tou swmatoj tou enoj polla onta en estin swma outwj kai oxristoj 12:12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
12:13 Etenim in uno Spiritu omnes nos in unum corpus baptizati sumus, sive Judæi, sive gentiles, sive servi, sive liberi: et omnes in uno Spiritu potati sumus. 12:13 kai gar en eni pneumati hmeij pantej eij en swma ebaptisqhmen eite ioudaioi eite ellhnej eite douloi eite eleuqeroi kai pantej eij en pneuma epotisqhmen 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
12:14 kai gar to swma ouk estin en meloj alla polla 12:14 For the body is not one member, but many.
12:15 ean eiph o pouj oti ouk eimi xeir ouk eimi ek tou swmatoj ou para touto ouk estin ek tou swmatoj 12:15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
12:16 kai ean eiph to ouj oti ouk eimi ofqalmoj ouk eimi ek tou swmatoj ou para touto ouk estin ek tou swmatoj 12:16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
12:17 Si totum corpus oculus: ubi auditus? Si totum auditus: ubi odoratus? 12:17 ei olon to swma ofqalmoj pou h akoh ei olon akoh pou h osfrhsij 12:17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
12:18 Nunc autem posuit Deus membra, unumquodque eorum in corpore sicut voluit. 12:18 nuni de o qeoj eqeto ta melh en ekaston autwn en tw swmati kaqwj hqelhsen 12:18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
12:19 ei de hn ta panta en meloj pou to swma 12:19 And if they were all one member, where were the body?
1 Corinthians 12:20 Nunc autem multa quidem membra, unum autem corpus. 1 Corinthians 12:20 nun de polla men melh en de swma 1 Corinthians 12:20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.
12:21 ou dunatai de ofqalmoj eipein th xeiri xreian sou ouk exw h palin h kefalh toij posin xreian umwn ouk exw 12:21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
12:22 Sed multo magis quæ videntur membra corporis infirmiora esse, necessariora sunt: 12:22 alla pollw mallon ta dokounta melh tou swmatoj asqenestera uparxein anagkaia estin 12:22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
12:23 et quæ putamus ignobiliora membra esse corporis, his honorem abundantiorem circumdamus: et quæ inhonesta sunt nostra, abundantiorem honestatem habent. 12:23 kai a dokoumen atimotera einai tou swmatoj toutoij timhn perissoteran peritiqemen kai ta asxhmona hmwn eusxhmosunhn perissoteran exei 12:23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.
12:24 Honesta autem nostra nullius egent: sed Deus temperavit corpus, ei cui deerat, abundantiorem tribuendo honorem, 12:24 ta de eusxhmona hmwn ou xreian exei all o qeoj sunekerasen to swma tw usterounti perissoteran douj timhn 12:24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:
12:25 ut non sit schisma in corpore, sed idipsum pro invicem sollicita sint membra. 12:25 ina mh h sxisma en tw swmati alla to auto uper allhlwn merimnwsin ta melh 12:25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.
12:26 Et si quid patitur unum membrum, compatiuntur omnia membra: sive gloriatur unum membrum, congaudent omnia membra. 12:26 kai eite pasxei en meloj sumpasxei panta ta melh eite docazetai en meloj sugxairei panta ta melh 12:26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
12:27 umeij de este swma xristou kai melh ek merouj 12:27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
12:28 Et quosdam quidem posuit Deus in ecclesia primum apostolos, secundo prophetas, exinde doctores, deinde virtutes, exinde gratias curationum, opitulationes, gubernationes, genera linguarum, interpretationes sermonum. 12:28 kai ouj men eqeto o qeoj en th ekklhsia prwton apostolouj deuteron profhtaj triton didaskalouj epeita dunameij eita xarismata iamatwn antilhyeij kubernhseij genh glwsswn 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
12:29 Numquid omnes apostoli? numquid omnes prophetæ? numquid omnes doctores? 12:29 mh pantej apostoloi mh pantej profhtai mh pantej didaskaloi mh pantej dunameij 12:29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
1 Corinthians 12:30 numquid omnes virtutes? numquid omnes gratiam habent curationum? numquid omnes linguis loquuntur? numquid omnes interpretantur? 1 Corinthians 12:30 mh pantej xarismata exousin iamatwn mh pantej glwssaij lalousin mh pantej diermhneuousin 1 Corinthians 12:30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
12:31 Æmulamini autem charismata meliora. Et adhuc excellentiorem viam vobis demonstro. 12:31 zhloute de ta xarismata ta kreittona kai eti kaq uperbolhn odon umin deiknumi 12:31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.
