GALATIANS CHAPTER 3

Latin VulgateGreek Textus ReceptusEnglish King James
Galatians 3:1 O insensati Galatæ, quis vos fascinavit non obedire veritati, ante quorum oculos Jesus Christus præscriptus est, in vobis crucifixus? Galatians 3:1 ὦ ἀνόητοι γαλάται τίς ὑμᾶς ἐβάσκανεν τῇ ἀληθείᾳ μὴ πείθεσθαι, οἷς κατ᾽ ὀφθαλμοὺς ἰησοῦς χριστὸς προεγράφη ἐν ὑμῖν ἐσταυρωμένος Galatians 3:1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?
3:2 Hoc solum a vobis volo discere: ex operibus legis Spiritum accepistis, an ex auditu fidei? 3:2 τοῦτο μόνον θέλω μαθεῖν ἀφ᾽ ὑμῶν ἐξ ἔργων νόμου τὸ πνεῦμα ἐλάβετε ἢ ἐξ ἀκοῆς πίστεως 3:2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
3:3 οὕτως ἀνόητοί ἐστε ἐναρξάμενοι πνεύματι νῦν σαρκὶ ἐπιτελεῖσθε 3:3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
3:4 tanta passi estis sine causa? si tamen sine causa. 3:4 τοσαῦτα ἐπάθετε εἰκῇ εἴγε καὶ εἰκῇ 3:4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.
3:5 ὁ οὖν ἐπιχορηγῶν ὑμῖν τὸ πνεῦμα καὶ ἐνεργῶν δυνάμεις ἐν ὑμῖν ἐξ ἔργων νόμου ἢ ἐξ ἀκοῆς πίστεως 3:5 He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
3:6 Sicut scriptum est: Abraham credidit Deo, et reputatum est illi ad justitiam: 3:6 καθὼς ἀβραὰμ ἐπίστευσεν τῷ θεῷ καὶ ἐλογίσθη αὐτῷ εἰς δικαιοσύνην 3:6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
3:7 γινώσκετε ἄρα ὅτι οἱ ἐκ πίστεως οὗτοι εἰσιν υἱοί ἀβραάμ 3:7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.
3:8 Providens autem Scriptura quia ex fide justificat gentes Deus, prænuntiavit Abrahæ: Quia benedicentur in te omnes gentes. 3:8 προϊδοῦσα δὲ ἡ γραφὴ ὅτι ἐκ πίστεως δικαιοῖ τὰ ἔθνη ὁ θεὸς προευηγγελίσατο τῷ ἀβραὰμ ὅτι ἐνευλογηθήσονται ἐν σοὶ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη 3:8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.
3:9 ὥστε οἱ ἐκ πίστεως εὐλογοῦνται σὺν τῷ πιστῷ ἀβραάμ 3:9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.
Galatians 3:10 ὅσοι γὰρ ἐξ ἔργων νόμου εἰσὶν ὑπὸ κατάραν εἰσίν γέγραπται γὰρ ἐπικατάρατος πᾶς ὃς οὐκ ἐμμένει ἐν πᾶσιν τοῖς γεγραμμένοις ἐν τῷ βιβλίῳ τοῦ νόμου τοῦ ποιῆσαι αὐτά Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
3:11 ὅτι δὲ ἐν νόμῳ οὐδεὶς δικαιοῦται παρὰ τῷ θεῷ δῆλον ὅτι ὁ δίκαιος ἐκ πίστεως ζήσεται 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
3:12 ὁ δὲ νόμος οὐκ ἔστιν ἐκ πίστεως ἀλλ᾽ ὁ ποιήσας αὐτὰ ἄνθρωπος ζήσεται ἐν αὐτοῖς 3:12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.
3:13 Christus nos redemit de maledicto legis, factus pro nobis maledictum: quia scriptum est: Maledictus omnis qui pendet in ligno: 3:13 χριστὸς ἡμᾶς ἐξηγόρασεν ἐκ τῆς κατάρας τοῦ νόμου γενόμενος ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν κατάρα γέγραπται γὰρ, ἐπικατάρατος πᾶς ὁ κρεμάμενος ἐπὶ ξύλου 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
3:14 ut in gentibus benedictio Abrahæ fieret in Christo Jesu, ut pollicitationem Spiritus accipiamus per fidem. 3:14 ἵνα εἰς τὰ ἔθνη ἡ εὐλογία τοῦ ἀβραὰμ γένηται ἐν χριστῷ ἰησοῦ ἵνα τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν τοῦ πνεύματος λάβωμεν διὰ τῆς πίστεως 3:14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
3:15 Fratres (secundum hominem dico) tamen hominis confirmatum testamentum nemo spernit, aut superordinat. 3:15 ἀδελφοί κατὰ ἄνθρωπον λέγω ὅμως ἀνθρώπου κεκυρωμένην διαθήκην οὐδεὶς ἀθετεῖ ἢ ἐπιδιατάσσεται 3:15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.
3:16 τῷ δὲ ἀβραὰμ ἐῤῥήθησαν αἱ ἐπαγγελίαι καὶ τῷ σπέρματι αὐτοῦ οὐ λέγει καὶ τοῖς σπέρμασιν ὡς ἐπὶ πολλῶν ἀλλ᾽ ὡς ἐφ᾽ ἑνός καὶ τῷ σπέρματί σου ὅς ἐστιν χριστός 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
3:17 τοῦτο δὲ λέγω διαθήκην προκεκυρωμένην ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ εἰς χριστὸν ὁ μετὰ ἔτη τετρακόσια καὶ τριάκοντα γεγονὼς νόμος οὐκ ἀκυροῖ εἰς τὸ καταργῆσαι τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν 3:17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
3:18 εἰ γὰρ ἐκ νόμου ἡ κληρονομία οὐκέτι ἐξ ἐπαγγελίας τῷ δὲ ἀβραὰμ δι᾽ ἐπαγγελίας κεχάρισται ὁ θεός 3:18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.
3:19 Quid igitur lex? Propter transgressiones posita est donec veniret semen, cui promiserat, ordinata per angelos in manu mediatoris. It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
Galatians 3:20 ὁ δὲ μεσίτης ἑνὸς οὐκ ἔστιν ὁ δὲ θεὸς εἷς ἐστιν Galatians 3:20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.
3:21 Lex ergo adversus promissa Dei? Absit. 3:21 ὁ οὖν νόμος κατὰ τῶν ἐπαγγελιῶν τοῦ θεοῦ μὴ γένοιτο εἰ γὰρ ἐδόθη νόμος ὁ δυνάμενος ζῳοποιῆσαι ὄντως ἂν ἐκ νόμου ἦν ἡ δικαιοσύνη 3:21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
3:22 ἀλλὰ συνέκλεισεν ἡ γραφὴ τὰ πάντα ὑπὸ ἁμαρτίαν ἵνα ἡ ἐπαγγελία ἐκ πίστεως ἰησοῦ χριστοῦ δοθῇ τοῖς πιστεύουσιν 3:22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
3:23 Prius autem quam veniret fides, sub lege custodiebamur conclusi in eam fidem quæ revelanda erat 3:23 πρὸ τοῦ δὲ ἐλθεῖν τὴν πίστιν ὑπὸ νόμον ἐφρουρούμεθα συγκεκλεισμένοι εἰς τὴν μέλλουσαν πίστιν ἀποκαλυφθῆναι 3:23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
3:24 ὥστε ὁ νόμος παιδαγωγὸς ἡμῶν γέγονεν εἰς χριστόν ἵνα ἐκ πίστεως δικαιωθῶμεν 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
3:25 At ubi venit fides, jam non sumus sub pædagogo. 3:25 ἐλθούσης δὲ τῆς πίστεως οὐκέτι ὑπὸ παιδαγωγόν ἐσμεν 3:25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
3:26 πάντες γὰρ υἱοὶ θεοῦ ἐστε διὰ τῆς πίστεως ἐν χριστῷ ἰησοῦ 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
3:27 Quicumque enim in Christo baptizati estis, Christum induistis. 3:27 ὅσοι γὰρ εἰς χριστὸν ἐβαπτίσθητε χριστὸν ἐνεδύσασθε 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
3:28 οὐκ ἔνι ἰουδαῖος οὐδὲ ἕλλην οὐκ ἔνι δοῦλος οὐδὲ ἐλεύθερος οὐκ ἔνι ἄρσεν καὶ θῆλυ πάντες γὰρ ὑμεῖς εἷς ἐστε ἐν χριστῷ ἰησοῦ 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
3:29 εἰ δὲ ὑμεῖς χριστοῦ ἄρα τοῦ ἀβραὰμ σπέρμα ἐστέ καὶ κατ᾽ ἐπαγγελίαν κληρονόμοι 3:29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
