Mark Chapter 1

Greek Textus ReceptusEnglish King James
Mark 1:1 ἀρχὴ τοῦ εὐαγγελίου ἰησοῦ χριστοῦ υἱοῦ τοῦ θεοῦ Mark 1:1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;
1:2 ης γέγραπται ἐν τοῖς προφήταις, ἰδού, ἐγὼ ἀποστέλλω τὸν ἄγγελόν μου πρὸ προσώπου σου ὃς κατασκευάσει τὴν ὁδόν σου ἔμπροσθέν σου, 1:2 As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
1:3 φωνὴ βοῶντος ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ ἑτοιμάσατε τὴν ὁδὸν κυρίου εὐθείας ποιεῖτε τὰς τρίβους αὐτοῦ 1:3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
1:4 ἐγένετο ἰωάννης βαπτίζων ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ καὶ κηρύσσων βάπτισμα μετανοίας εἰς ἄφεσιν ἁμαρτιῶν 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
1:5 καὶ ἐξεπορεύετο πρὸς αὐτὸν πᾶσα ἡ ἰουδαία χώρα καὶ οἱ ἱεροσολυμῖται καὶ ἐβαπτίζοντο πάντες ἐν τῷ ἰορδάνῃ ποταμῷ ὑπ᾽ αὐτοῦ ἐξομολογούμενοι τὰς ἁμαρτίας αὐτῶν 1:5 And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.
1:6 ἦν δὲ ἰωάννης ἐνδεδυμένος τρίχας καμήλου καὶ ζώνην δερματίνην περὶ τὴν ὀσφὺν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐσθίων ἀκρίδας καὶ μέλι ἄγριον 1:6 And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;
1:7 καὶ ἐκήρυσσεν λέγων, ἕρχεται ὁ ἰσχυρότερός μου ὀπίσω μου οὗ οὐκ εἰμὶ ἱκανὸς κύψας λῦσαι τὸν ἱμάντα τῶν ὑποδημάτων αὐτοῦ 1:7 And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.
1:8 ἐγὼ μὲν ἐβάπτισα ὑμᾶς ἐν ὕδατι αὐτὸς δὲ βαπτίσει ὑμᾶς ἐν πνεύματι ἁγίῳ 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
1:9 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν ἐκείναις ταῖς ἡμέραις ἦλθεν ἰησοῦς ἀπὸ ναζαρὲτ τῆς γαλιλαίας καὶ ἐβαπτίσθη ὑπὸ ἰωάννου εἰς τὸν ἰορδάνην 1:9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.
Mark 1:10 καὶ εὐθὲως ἀναβαίνων ἀπὸ τοῦ ὕδατος εἶδεν σχιζομένους τοὺς οὐρανοὺς καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα ὡσεὶ περιστερὰν καταβαῖνον ἐπ᾽ αὐτόν Mark 1:10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:
1:11 καὶ φωνὴ ἐγένετο ἐκ τῶν οὐρανῶν σὺ εἶ ὁ υἱός μου ὁ ἀγαπητός ἐν ὦ εὐδόκησα 1:11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
1:12 καὶ εὐθὺς τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτὸν ἐκβάλλει εἰς τὴν ἔρημον 1:12 And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness.
1:13 καὶ ἦν ἐκεῖ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ ἡμέρας τεσσαράκοντα πειραζόμενος ὑπὸ τοῦ σατανᾶ καὶ ἦν μετὰ τῶν θηρίων καὶ οἱ ἄγγελοι διηκόνουν αὐτῷ 1:13 And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.
1:14 μετὰ δὲ τὸ παραδοθῆναι τὸν ἰωάννην ἦλθεν ὁ ἰησοῦς εἰς τὴν γαλιλαίαν κηρύσσων τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τῆς βασιλείας τοῦ θεοῦ 1:14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
1:15 καὶ λέγων ὅτι πεπλήρωται ὁ καιρὸς καὶ ἤγγικεν ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ μετανοεῖτε καὶ πιστεύετε ἐν τῷ εὐαγγελίῳ 1:15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
1:16 περιπατῶν δὲ παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν τῆς γαλιλαίας εἶδεν σίμωνα καὶ ἀνδρέαν τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ βάλλοντας ἀμφίβληστρον ἐν τῇ θαλάσσῃ ἦσαν γὰρ ἁλιεῖς 1:16 Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
1:17 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ ἰησοῦς δεῦτε ὀπίσω μου καὶ ποιήσω ὑμᾶς γενέσθαι ἁλιεῖς ἀνθρώπων 1:17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
1:18 καὶ εὐθέως ἀφέντες τὰ δίκτυα αὐτῶν, ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῷ 1:18 And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.
1:19 καὶ προβὰς ἐκεῖθεν ὀλίγον εἶδεν ἰάκωβον τὸν τοῦ ξεβεδαίου καὶ ἰωάννην τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ αὐτοὺς ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ καταρτίζοντας τὰ δίκτυα 1:19 And when he had gone a little further thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets.
Mark 1:20 καὶ εὐθεὼς ἐκάλεσεν αὐτούς καὶ ἀφέντες τὸν πατέρα αὐτῶν ξεβεδαῖον ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ μετὰ τῶν μισθωτῶν ἀπῆλθον ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ Mark 1:20 And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.
1:21 καὶ εἰσπορεύονται εἰς καπερναούμ καὶ εὐθεὼς τοῖς σάββασιν εἰσελθὼν εἰς τὴν συναγωγὴν ἐδίδασκεν 1:21 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.
1:22 καὶ ἐξεπλήσσοντο ἐπὶ τῇ διδαχῇ αὐτοῦ ἦν γὰρ διδάσκων αὐτοὺς ὡς ἐξουσίαν ἔχων καὶ οὐχ ὡς οἱ γραμματεῖς 1:22 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.
1:23 καὶ ἦν ἐν τῇ συναγωγῇ αὐτῶν ἄνθρωπος ἐν πνεύματι ἀκαθάρτῳ καὶ ἀνέκραξεν 1:23 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,
1:24 λέγων, ἕα, τί ἡμῖν καὶ σοί, ἰησοῦ ναζαρηνέ ἦλθες ἀπολέσαι ἡμᾶς οἶδά σε τίς εἶ ὁ ἅγιος τοῦ θεοῦ 1:24 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
1:25 καὶ ἐπετίμησεν αὐτῷ ὁ ἰησοῦς λέγων, φιμώθητι καὶ ἔξελθε ἐξ αὐτοῦ 1:25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.
1:26 καὶ σπαράξαν αὐτὸν τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἀκάθαρτον καὶ κράξαν φωνῇ μεγάλῃ ἐξῆλθεν ἐξ αὐτοῦ 1:26 And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.
1:27 καὶ ἐθαμβήθησαν παντές, ὥστε συζητεῖν πρὸς αὐτοὺς, λέγοντας τί ἐστιν τοῦτο τις ἡ διδαχὴ ἡ καινὴ αὑτη, ὅτι κατ᾽ ἐξουσίαν καὶ τοῖς πνεύμασιν τοῖς ἀκαθάρτοις ἐπιτάσσει καὶ ὑπακούουσιν αὐτῷ 1:27 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.
1:28 ἐξῆλθεν δὲ ἡ ἀκοὴ αὐτοῦ εὐθὺς εἰς ὅλην τὴν περίχωρον τῆς γαλιλαίας 1:28 And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee.
1:29 καὶ εὐθέως ἐκ τῆς συναγωγῆς ἐξελθόντες ἦλθον εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν σίμωνος καὶ ἀνδρέου μετὰ ἰακώβου καὶ ἰωάννου 1:29 And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
Mark 1:30 ἡ δὲ πενθερὰ σίμωνος κατέκειτο πυρέσσουσα καὶ εὐθὲως λέγουσιν αὐτῷ περὶ αὐτῆς Mark 1:30 But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.
1:31 καὶ προσελθὼν ἤγειρεν αὐτὴν κρατήσας τῆς χειρὸς αὐτῆς καὶ ἀφῆκεν αὐτὴν ὁ πυρετός εὐθὲως, καὶ διηκόνει αὐτοῖς 1:31 And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.
1:32 ὀψίας δὲ γενομένης ὅτε ἔδυ ὁ ἥλιος ἔφερον πρὸς αὐτὸν πάντας τοὺς κακῶς ἔχοντας καὶ τοὺς δαιμονιζομένους 1:32 And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.
1:33 καὶ ἡ πόλις ὅλη ἐπισυνηγμένη ἦν πρὸς τὴν θύραν 1:33 And all the city was gathered together at the door.
1:34 καὶ ἐθεράπευσεν πολλοὺς κακῶς ἔχοντας ποικίλαις νόσοις καὶ δαιμόνια πολλὰ ἐξέβαλεν καὶ οὐκ ἤφιεν λαλεῖν τὰ δαιμόνια ὅτι ᾔδεισαν αὐτόν 1:34 And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.
1:35 καὶ πρωῒ ἔννυχον λίαν ἀναστὰς ἐξῆλθεν καὶ ἀπῆλθεν εἰς ἔρημον τόπον κἀκεῖ προσηύχετο 1:35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
1:36 καὶ κατεδίωξάν αὐτὸν ὁ σίμων καὶ οἱ μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ 1:36 And Simon and they that were with him followed after him.
1:37 καὶ εὗροντες αὐτὸν λέγουσιν αὐτῷ ὅτι πάντες ζητοῦσίν σε 1:37 And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee.
1:38 καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς ἄγωμεν εἰς τὰς ἐχομένας κωμοπόλεις ἵνα κἀκεῖ κηρύξω εἰς τοῦτο γὰρ ἐξελήλυθα 1:38 And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth.
1:39 καὶ ἦν κηρύσσων ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς αὐτῶν εἰς ὅλην τὴν γαλιλαίαν καὶ τὰ δαιμόνια ἐκβάλλων 1:39 And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils.
Mark 1:40 καὶ ἔρχεται πρὸς αὐτὸν λεπρὸς παρακαλῶν αὐτὸν καὶ γονυπετῶν αὐτὸν καὶ λέγων αὐτῷ ὅτι ἐὰν θέλῃς δύνασαί με καθαρίσαι 1:40 And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
1:41 ὁ δὲ ἰησοῦς σπλαγχνισθεὶς ἐκτείνας τὴν χεῖρα ἥψατο αὐτοῦ καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ φέλω καθαρίσθητι 1:41 And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.
1:42 καὶ εἰπόντος αὐτοῦ εὐθὲως ἀπῆλθεν ἀπ᾽ αὐτοῦ, ἡ λέπρα καὶ ἐκαθαρίσθη 1:42 And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.
1:43 καὶ ἐμβριμησάμενος αὐτῷ εὐθὲως ἐξέβαλεν αὐτόν 1:43 And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away;
1:44 καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ ὅρα μηδενὶ μηδὲν εἴπῃς ἀλλ᾽ ὕπαγε σεαυτὸν δεῖξον τῷ ἱερεῖ καὶ προσένεγκε περὶ τοῦ καθαρισμοῦ σου ἃ προσέταξεν μωσῆς, εἰς μαρτύριον αὐτοῖς 1:44 And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
1:45 ὁ δὲ ἐξελθὼν ἤρξατο κηρύσσειν πολλὰ καὶ διαφημίζειν τὸν λόγον ὥστε μηκέτι αὐτὸν δύνασθαι φανερῶς εἰς πόλιν εἰσελθεῖν ἀλλ᾽ ἔξω ἐν ἐρήμοις τόποις ἦν καὶ ἤρχοντο πρὸς αὐτὸν πανταχόθεν 1:45 But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to blaze abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.
