Mark Chapter 5

Mark 5:1 kai hlqon eij to peran thj qalasshj eij thn xwran twn gadarhnwn Mark 5:1 And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.
5:2 kai ecelqonti autw ek tou ploiou euqewj aphnthsen autw ek twn mnhmeiwn anqrwpoj en pneumati akaqartw 5:2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
5:3 oj thn katoikhsin eixen en toij mnhmeioij kai oute alusesin oudeij hdunato auton dhsai 5:3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
5:4 dia to auton pollakij pedaij kai alusesin dedesqai kai diespasqai up autou taj aluseij kai taj pedaj suntetrifqai kai oudeij auton isxuen damasai 5:4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.
5:5 kai diapantoj nuktoj kai hmeraj en toij oresin kai en toij mnhmasin hn krazwn kai katakoptwn eauton liqoij 5:5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
5:6 idwn de ton ihsoun apo makroqen edramen kai prosekunhsen autw 5:6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,
5:7 kai kracaj fwnh megalh eipen ti emoi kai soi ihsou uie tou qeou tou uyistou orkizw se ton qeon mh me basanishj 5:7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.
5:8 elegen gar autw ecelqe to pneuma to akaqarton ek tou anqrwpou 5:8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.
5:9 kai ephrwta auton ti soi onoma kai apekriqh legwn legewn onoma moi oti polloi esmen 5:9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.
Mark 5:10 kai parekalei auton polla ina mh autouj aposteilh ecw thj xwraj Mark 5:10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.
5:11 hn de ekei proj ta orh agelh xoirwn megalh boskomenh 5:11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.
5:12 kai parekalesan auton pantej oi daimonej legontej pemyon hmaj eij touj xoirouj ina eij autouj eiselqwmen 5:12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
5:13 kai epetreyen autoij euqewj o ihsouj kai ecelqonta ta pneumata ta akaqarta eishlqon eij touj xoirouj kai wrmhsen h agelh kata tou krhmnou eij thn qalassan hsan de wj disxilioi kai epnigonto en th qalassh 5:13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.
5:14 oi de boskontej touj xoirouj efugon kai anhggeilan eij thn polin kai eij touj agrouj kai echlqon idein ti estin to gegonoj 5:14 And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.
5:15 kai erxontai proj ton ihsoun kai qewrousin ton daimonizomenon kaqhmenon kai imatismenon kai swfronounta ton esxhkota ton legewna kai efobhqhsan 5:15 And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
5:16 kai dihghsanto autoij oi idontej pwj egeneto tw daimonizomenw kai peri twn xoirwn 5:16 And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.
5:17 kai hrcanto parakalein auton apelqein apo twn oriwn autwn 5:17 And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.
5:18 kai embantoj autou eij to ploion parekalei auton o daimonisqeij ina h met autou 5:18 And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.
5:19 o de ihsouj ouk afhken auton alla legei autw upage eij ton oikon sou proj touj souj kai anaggeilon autoij osa soi o kurioj epoihsen kai hlehsen se 5:19 Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.
Mark 5:20 kai aphlqen kai hrcato khrussein en th dekapolei osa epoihsen autw o ihsouj kai pantej eqaumazon Mark 5:20 And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.
5:21 kai diaperasantoj tou ihsou en tw ploiw palin eij to peran sunhxqh oxloj poluj ep auton kai hn para thn qalassan 5:21 And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.
5:22 kai idou erxetai eij twn arxisunagwgwn onomati iaeiroj kai idwn auton piptei proj touj podaj autou 5:22 And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,
5:23 kai parekalei auton polla legwn oti to qugatrion mou esxatwj exei ina elqwn epiqhj auth taj xeiraj opwj swqh kai zhsetai 5:23 And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.
5:24 kai aphlqen met autou kai hkolouqei autw oxloj poluj kai suneqlibon auton 5:24 And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.
5:25 kai gunh tij ousa en rusei aimatoj eth dwdeka 5:25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
5:26 kai polla paqousa upo pollwn iatrwn kai dapanhsasa ta par eauthj panta kai mhden wfelhqeisa alla mallon eij to xeiron elqousa 5:26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,
5:27 akousasa peri tou ihsou elqousa en tw oxlw opisqen hyato tou imatiou autou 5:27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
5:28 elegen gar oti kan twn imatiwn autou aywmai swqhsomai 5:28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
5:29 kai euqewj echranqh h phgh tou aimatoj authj kai egnw tw swmati oti iatai apo thj mastigoj 5:29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
Mark 5:30 kai euqewj o ihsouj epignouj en eautw thn ec autou dunamin ecelqousan epistrafeij en tw oxlw elegen tij mou hyato twn imatiwn Mark 5:30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?
5:31 kai elegon autw oi maqhtai autou blepeij ton oxlon sunqlibonta se kai legeij tij mou hyato 5:31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
5:32 kai perieblepeto idein thn touto poihsasan 5:32 And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.
5:33 h de gunh fobhqeisa kai tremousa eiduia o gegonen ep auth hlqen kai prosepesen autw kai eipen autw pasan thn alhqeian 5:33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
5:34 o de eipen auth qugater h pistij sou seswken se upage eij eirhnhn kai isqi ugihj apo thj mastigoj sou 5:34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
5:35 eti autou lalountoj erxontai apo tou arxisunagwgou legontej oti h qugathr sou apeqanen ti eti skulleij ton didaskalon 5:35 While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?
5:36 o de ihsouj euqewj akousaj ton logon laloumenon legei tw arxisunagwgw mh fobou monon pisteue 5:36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
5:37 kai ouk afhken oudena autw sunakolouqhsai ei mh petron kai iakwbon kai iwannhn ton adelfon iakwbou 5:37 And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.
5:38 kai erxetai eij ton oikon tou arxisunagwgou kai qewrei qorubon kai klaiontaj kai alalazontaj polla 5:38 And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.
5:39 kai eiselqwn legei autoij ti qorubeisqe kai klaiete to paidion ouk apeqanen alla kaqeudei 5:39 And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.
Mark 5:40 kai kategelwn autou o de ekbalwn apantaj paralambanei ton patera tou paidiou kai thn mhtera kai touj met autou kai eisporeuetai opou hn to paidion anakeimenon Mark 5:40 And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.
5:41 kai krathsaj thj xeiroj tou paidiou legei auth taliqa koumi o estin meqermhneuomenon to korasion soi legw egeirai 5:41 And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
5:42 kai euqewj anesth to korasion kai periepatei hn gar etwn dwdeka kai ecesthsan ekstasei megalh 5:42 And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.
5:43 kai diesteilato autoij polla ina mhdeij gnw touto kai eipen doqhnai auth fagein 5:43 And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
