1 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER 1

Latin VulgateGreek Textus ReceptusEnglish King James
1 Corinthians 1:1 Paulus vocatus Apostolus Jesu Christi per voluntatem Dei, et Sosthenes frater, 1 Corinthians 1:1 pauloj klhtoj apostoloj ihsou xristou dia qelhmatoj qeou kai swsqenhj o adelfoj 1 Corinthians 1:1 Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,
1:2 th ekklhsia tou qeou th oush en korinqw hgiasmenoij en xristw ihsou klhtoij agioij sun pasin toij epikaloumenoij to onoma tou kuriou hmwn ihsou xristou en panti topw autwn te kai hmwn 1:2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:
1:3 Gratia vobis, et pax a Deo Patre nostro, et Domino Jesu Christo. 1:3 xarij umin kai eirhnh apo qeou patroj hmwn kai kuriou ihsou xristou 1:3 Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
1:4 Gratias ago Deo meo semper pro vobis in gratia Dei, quæ data est vobis in Christo Jesu: 1:4 euxaristw tw qew mou pantote peri umwn epi th xariti tou qeou th doqeish umin en xristw ihsou 1:4 I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ;
1:5 quod in omnibus divites facti estis in illo, in omni verbo, et in omni scientia. 1:5 oti en panti eploutisqhte en autw en panti logw kai pash gnwsei 1:5 That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;
1:6 Sicut testimonium Christi confirmatum est in vobis: 1:6 kaqwj to marturion tou xristou ebebaiwqh en umin 1:6 Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:
1:7 ita ut nihil vobis desit in ulla gratia, exspectantibus revelationem Domini nostri Jesu Christi, 1:7 wste umaj mh ustereisqai en mhdeni xarismati apekdexomenouj thn apokaluyin tou kuriou hmwn ihsou xristou 1:7 So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:
1:8 qui et confirmabit vos usque in finem sine crimine, in die adventus Domini nostri Jesu Christi. 1:8 oj kai bebaiwsei umaj ewj telouj anegklhtouj en th hmera tou kuriou hmwn ihsou xristou 1:8 Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1:9 Fidelis Deus: per quem vocati estis in societatem filii ejus Jesu Christi Domini nostri. 1:9 pistoj o qeoj di ou eklhqhte eij koinwnian tou uiou autou ihsou xristou tou kuriou hmwn 1:9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
1 Corinthians 1:10 parakalw de umaj adelfoi dia tou onomatoj tou kuriou hmwn ihsou xristou ina to auto leghte pantej kai mh h en umin sxismata hte de kathrtismenoi en tw autw noi kai en th auth gnwmh 1 Corinthians 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
1:11 edhlwqh gar moi peri umwn adelfoi mou upo twn xlohj oti eridej en umin eisin 1:11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
1:12 legw de touto oti ekastoj umwn legei egw men eimi paulou egw de apollw egw de khfa egw de xristou 1:12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
1:13 memeristai o xristoj mh pauloj estaurwqh uper umwn h eij to onoma paulou ebaptisqhte 1:13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
1:14 Gratias ago Deo, quod neminem vestrum baptizavi, nisi Crispum et Caium: 1:14 euxaristw tw qew oti oudena umwn ebaptisa ei mh krispon kai gaion 1:14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;
1:15 ne quis dicat quod in nomine meo baptizati estis. 1:15 ina mh tij eiph oti eij to emon onoma ebaptisa 1:15 Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.
1:16 ebaptisa de kai ton stefana oikon loipon ouk oida ei tina allon ebaptisa 1:16 And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.
1:17 ou gar apesteilen me xristoj baptizein all euaggelizesqai ouk en sofia logou ina mh kenwqh o stauroj tou xristou 1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
1:18 o logoj gar o tou staurou toij men apollumenoij mwria estin toij de swzomenoij hmin dunamij qeou estin 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
1:19 gegraptai gar apolw thn sofian twn sofwn kai thn sunesin twn sunetwn aqethsw 1:19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
1 Corinthians 1:20 Ubi sapiens? ubi scriba? ubi conquisitor hujus sæculi? Nonne stultam fecit Deus sapientiam hujus mundi? 1 Corinthians 1:20 pou sofoj pou grammateuj pou suzhththj tou aiwnoj toutou ouxi emwranen o qeoj thn sofian tou kosmou toutou 1 Corinthians 1:20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
1:21 epeidh gar en th sofia tou qeou ouk egnw o kosmoj dia thj sofiaj ton qeon eudokhsen o qeoj dia thj mwriaj tou khrugmatoj swsai touj pisteuontaj 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
1:22 Quoniam et Judæi signa petunt, et Græci sapientiam quærunt: 1:22 epeidh kai ioudaioi shmeion aitousin kai ellhnej sofian zhtousin 1:22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
1:23 nos autem prædicamus Christum crucifixum: Judæis quidem scandalum, gentibus autem stultitiam, 1:23 hmeij de khrussomen xriston estaurwmenon ioudaioij men skandalon ellhsin de mwrian 1:23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
1:25 oti to mwron tou qeou sofwteron twn anqrwpwn estin kai to asqenej tou qeou isxuroteron twn anqrwpwn estin 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
1:26 Videte enim vocationem vestram, fratres, quia non multi sapientes secundum carnem, non multi potentes, non multi nobiles: 1:26 blepete gar thn klhsin umwn adelfoi oti ou polloi sofoi kata sarka ou polloi dunatoi ou polloi eugeneij 1:26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
1:27 sed quæ stulta sunt mundi elegit Deus, ut confundat sapientes: et infirma mundi elegit Deus, ut confundat fortia: 1:27 alla ta mwra tou kosmou ecelecato o qeoj ina touj sofouj kataisxunh kai ta asqenh tou kosmou ecelecato o qeoj ina kataisxunh ta isxura 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
1:29 ut non glorietur omnis caro in conspectu ejus. 1:29 opwj mh kauxhshtai pasa sarc enwpion autou 1:29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
1:31 ut quemadmodum scriptum est: Qui gloriatur, in Domino glorietur. 1:31 ina kaqwj gegraptai o kauxwmenoj en kuriw kauxasqw 1:31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
