1 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER 7

Latin VulgateGreek Textus ReceptusEnglish King James
1 Corinthians 7:1 De quibus autem scripsistis mihi: Bonum est homini mulierem non tangere: 1 Corinthians 7:1 peri de wn egrayate moi kalon anqrwpw gunaikoj mh aptesqai 1 Corinthians 7:1 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.
7:2 dia de taj porneiaj ekastoj thn eautou gunaika exetw kai ekasth ton idion andra exetw 7:2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
7:3 th gunaiki o anhr thn ofeilomenhn eunoian apodidotw omoiwj de kai h gunh tw andri 7:3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.
7:4 h gunh tou idiou swmatoj ouk ecousiazei all o anhr omoiwj de kai o anhr tou idiou swmatoj ouk ecousiazei all h gunh 7:4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.
7:5 mh apostereite allhlouj ei mh ti an ek sumfwnou proj kairon ina sxolazhte th nhsteia kai th proseuxh kai palin epi to auto sunerxhsqe ina mh peirazh umaj o satanaj dia thn akrasian umwn 7:5 Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.
7:6 touto de legw kata suggnwmhn ou kat epitaghn 7:6 But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment.
7:7 qelw gar pantaj anqrwpouj einai wj kai emauton all ekastoj idion xarisma exei ek qeou oj men outwj oj de outwj 7:7 For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
7:8 legw de toij agamoij kai taij xhraij kalon autoij estin ean meinwsin wj kagw 7:8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.
7:9 Quod si non se continent, nubant. Melius est enim nubere, quam uri. 7:9 ei de ouk egkrateuontai gamhsatwsan kreisson gar estin gamhsai h purousqai 7:9 But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.
1 Corinthians 7:10 Iis autem qui matrimonio juncti sunt, præcipio non ego, sed Dominus, uxorem a viro non discedere: 1 Corinthians 7:10 toij de gegamhkosin paraggellw ouk egw all o kurioj gunaika apo androj mh xwrisqhnai 1 Corinthians 7:10 And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:
7:11 quod si discesserit, manere innuptam, aut viro suo reconciliari. Et vir uxorem non dimittat. 7:11 ean de kai xwrisqh menetw agamoj h tw andri katallaghtw kai andra gunaika mh afienai 7:11 But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.
7:12 toij de loipoij egw legw oux o kurioj ei tij adelfoj gunaika exei apiston kai auth suneudokei oikein met autou mh afietw authn 7:12 But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.
7:13 Et si qua mulier fidelis habet virum infidelem, et hic consentit habitare cum illa, non dimittat virum: 7:13 kai gunh htij exei andra apiston kai autoj suneudokei oikein met authj mh afietw auton 7:13 And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.
7:14 hgiastai gar o anhr o apistoj en th gunaiki kai hgiastai h gunh h apistoj en tw andri epei ara ta tekna umwn akaqarta estin nun de agia estin 7:14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.
7:15 ei de o apistoj xwrizetai xwrizesqw ou dedoulwtai o adelfoj h h adelfh en toij toioutoij en de eirhnh keklhken hmaj o qeoj 7:15 But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.
7:16 ti gar oidaj gunai ei ton andra swseij h ti oidaj aner ei thn gunaika swseij 7:16 For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?
7:17 Nisi unicuique sicut divisit Dominus, unumquemque sicut vocavit Deus, ita ambulet, et sicut in omnibus ecclesiis doceo. 7:17 ei mh ekastw wj emerisen o qeoj ekaston wj keklhken o kurioj outwj peripateitw kai outwj en taij ekklhsiaij pasaij diatassomai 7:17 But as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches.
7:18 Circumcisus aliquis vocatus est? non adducat præputium. In præputio aliquis vocatus est? non circumcidatur. 7:18 peritetmhmenoj tij eklhqh mh epispasqw en akrobustia tij eklhqh mh peritemnesqw 7:18 Is any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised.
7:19 Circumcisio nihil est, et præputium nihil est: sed observatio mandatorum Dei. 7:19 h peritomh ouden estin kai h akrobustia ouden estin alla thrhsij entolwn qeou 7:19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.
1 Corinthians 7:20 Unusquisque in qua vocatione vocatus est, in ea permaneat. 1 Corinthians 7:20 ekastoj en th klhsei h eklhqh en tauth menetw 1 Corinthians 7:20 Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.
7:21 douloj eklhqhj mh soi meletw all ei kai dunasai eleuqeroj genesqai mallon xrhsai 7:21 Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather.
7:22 o gar en kuriw klhqeij douloj apeleuqeroj kuriou estin omoiwj kai o eleuqeroj klhqeij douloj estin xristou 7:22 For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ's servant.
7:23 Pretio empti estis: nolite fieri servi hominum. 7:23 timhj hgorasqhte mh ginesqe douloi anqrwpwn 7:23 Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.
7:24 ekastoj en w eklhqh adelfoi en toutw menetw para tw qew 7:24 Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.
7:25 De virginibus autem præceptum Domini non habeo: consilium autem do, tamquam misericordiam consecutus a Domino, ut sim fidelis. 7:25 peri de twn parqenwn epitaghn kuriou ouk exw gnwmhn de didwmi wj hlehmenoj upo kuriou pistoj einai 7:25 Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: yet I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful.
7:26 nomizw oun touto kalon uparxein dia thn enestwsan anagkhn oti kalon anqrwpw to outwj einai 7:26 I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be.
7:27 Alligatus es uxori? noli quærere solutionem. Solutus es ab uxore? noli quærere uxorem. 7:27 dedesai gunaiki mh zhtei lusin lelusai apo gunaikoj mh zhtei gunaika 7:27 Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.
7:28 ean de kai ghmhj oux hmartej kai ean ghmh h parqenoj oux hmarten qliyin de th sarki ecousin oi toioutoi egw de umwn feidomai 7:28 But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.
7:29 Hoc itaque dico, fratres: tempus breve est: reliquum est, ut et qui habent uxores, tamquam non habentes sint: 7:29 touto de fhmi adelfoi oti o kairoj sunestalmenoj to loipon estin ina kai oi exontej gunaikaj wj mh exontej wsin 7:29 But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;
1 Corinthians 7:30 et qui flent, tamquam non flentes: et qui gaudent, tamquam non gaudentes: et qui emunt, tamquam non possidentes: 1 Corinthians 7:30 kai oi klaiontej wj mh klaiontej kai oi xairontej wj mh xairontej kai oi agorazontej wj mh katexontej 1 Corinthians 7:30 And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not;
7:31 kai oi xrwmenoi tw kosmw toutw wj mh kataxrwmenoi paragei gar to sxhma tou kosmou toutou 7:31 And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.
7:32 Volo autem vos sine sollicitudine esse. Qui sine uxore est, sollicitus est quæ Domini sunt, quomodo placeat Deo. 7:32 qelw de umaj amerimnouj einai o agamoj merimna ta tou kuriou pwj aresei tw kuriw 7:32 But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:
7:33 Qui autem cum uxore est, sollicitus est quæ sunt mundi, quomodo placeat uxori, et divisus est. 7:33 o de gamhsaj merimna ta tou kosmou pwj aresei th gunaiki 7:33 But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.
7:34 memeristai h gunh kai h parqenoj h agamoj merimna ta tou kuriou ina h agia kai swmati kai pneumati h de gamhsasa merimna ta tou kosmou pwj aresei tw andri 7:34 There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.
7:35 touto de proj to umwn autwn sumferon legw oux ina broxon umin epibalw alla proj to eusxhmon kai euprosedron tw kuriw aperispastwj 7:35 And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.
7:36 ei de tij asxhmonein epi thn parqenon autou nomizei ean h uperakmoj kai outwj ofeilei ginesqai o qelei poieitw oux amartanei gameitwsan 7:36 But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.
7:37 oj de esthken edraioj en th kardia mh exwn anagkhn ecousian de exei peri tou idiou qelhmatoj kai touto kekriken en th kardia autou tou threin thn eautou parqenon kalwj poiei 7:37 Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well.
7:38 wste kai o ekgamizwn kalwj poiei o de mh ekgamizwn kreisson poiei 7:38 So then he that giveth her in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better.
7:39 gunh dedetai nomw ef oson xronon zh o anhr authj ean de koimhqh o anhr authj eleuqera estin w qelei gamhqhnai monon en kuriw 7:39 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.
1 Corinthians 7:40 makariwtera de estin ean outwj meinh kata thn emhn gnwmhn dokw de kagw pneuma qeou exein 1 Corinthians 7:40 But she is happier if she so abide, after my judgment: and I think also that I have the Spirit of God.
