1 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER 8

Latin VulgateGreek Textus ReceptusEnglish King James
1 Corinthians 8:1 De iis autem quæ idolis sacrificantur, scimus quia omnes scientiam habemus. Scientia inflat, caritas vero ædificat. 1 Corinthians 8:1 peri de twn eidwloqutwn oidamen oti pantej gnwsin exomen h gnwsij fusioi h de agaph oikodomei 1 Corinthians 8:1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
8:2 ei de tij dokei eidenai ti oudepw ouden egnwken kaqwj dei gnwnai 8:2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
8:3 Si quis autem diligit Deum, hic cognitus est ab eo. 8:3 ei de tij agapa ton qeon outoj egnwstai up autou 8:3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.
8:4 peri thj brwsewj oun twn eidwloqutwn oidamen oti ouden eidwlon en kosmw kai oti oudeij qeoj eteroj ei mh eij 8:4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
8:5 Nam etsi sunt qui dicantur dii sive in cælo, sive in terra (siquidem sunt dii multi, et domini multi): 8:5 kai gar eiper eisin legomenoi qeoi eite en ouranw eite epi thj ghj wsper eisin qeoi polloi kai kurioi polloi 8:5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
8:6 all hmin eij qeoj o pathr ec ou ta panta kai hmeij eij auton kai eij kurioj ihsouj xristoj di ou ta panta kai hmeij di autou 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
8:7 all ouk en pasin h gnwsij tinej de th suneidhsei tou eidwlou ewj arti wj eidwloquton esqiousin kai h suneidhsij autwn asqenhj ousa molunetai 8:7 Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
8:8 brwma de hmaj ou paristhsin tw qew oute gar ean fagwmen perisseuomen oute ean mh fagwmen usteroumeqa 8:8 But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
8:9 Videte autem ne forte hæc licentia vestra offendiculum fiat infirmis. 8:9 blepete de mhpwj h ecousia umwn auth proskomma genhtai toij asqenousin 8:9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
1 Corinthians 8:10 Si enim quis viderit eum, qui habet scientiam, in idolio recumbentem: nonne conscientia ejus, cum sit infirma, ædificabitur ad manducandum idolothyta? 1 Corinthians 8:10 ean gar tij idh se ton exonta gnwsin en eidwleiw katakeimenon ouxi h suneidhsij autou asqenouj ontoj oikodomhqhsetai eij to ta eidwloquta esqiein 1 Corinthians 8:10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
8:11 Et peribit infirmus in tua scientia, frater, propter quem Christus mortuus est? 8:11 kai apoleitai o asqenwn adelfoj epi th sh gnwsei di on xristoj apeqanen 8:11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
8:12 outwj de amartanontej eij touj adelfouj kai tuptontej autwn thn suneidhsin asqenousan eij xriston amartanete 8:12 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
8:13 Quapropter si esca scandalizat fratrem meum, non manducabo carnem in æternum, ne fratrem meum scandalizem. 8:13 dioper ei brwma skandalizei ton adelfon mou ou mh fagw krea eij ton aiwna ina mh ton adelfon mou skandalisw 8:13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
