Acts 8:1 Facta est autem in illa die persecutio magna in ecclesia quæ erat Jerosolymis, et omnes dispersi sunt per regiones Judææ et Samariæ præter Apostolos. Acts 8:1 sauloj de hn suneudokwn th anairesei autou egeneto de en ekeinh th hmera diwgmoj megaj epi thn ekklhsian thn en ierosolumoij pantej te diesparhsan kata taj xwraj thj ioudaiaj kai samareiaj plhn twn apostolwn Acts 8:1 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.
8:2 Curaverunt autem Stephanum viri timorati, et fecerunt planctum magnum super eum. 8:2 sunekomisan de ton stefanon andrej eulabeij kai epoihsanto kopeton megan ep autw 8:2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.
8:3 Saulus autem devastabat ecclesiam per domos intrans, et trahens viros ac mulieres, tradebat in custodiam. 8:3 sauloj de elumaineto thn ekklhsian kata touj oikouj eisporeuomenoj surwn te andraj kai gunaikaj paredidou eij fulakhn 8:3 As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.
8:4 Igitur qui dispersi erant pertransibant, evangelizantes verbum Dei. 8:4 oi men oun diasparentej dihlqon euaggelizomenoi ton logon 8:4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.
8:5 Philippus autem descendens in civitatem Samariæ, prædicabant illis Christum. 8:5 filippoj de katelqwn eij polin thj samareiaj ekhrussen autoij ton xriston 8:5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them.
8:6 Intendebant autem turbæ his quæ a Philippo dicebantur, unanimiter audientes, et videntes signa quæ faciebat. 8:6 proseixon te oi oxloi toij legomenoij upo tou filippou omoqumadon en tw akouein autouj kai blepein ta shmeia a epoiei 8:6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.
8:7 Multi enim eorum qui habebant spiritus immundos, clamantes voce magna exibant. Multi autem paralytici et claudi curati sunt. 8:7 pollwn gar twn exontwn pneumata akaqarta bownta megalh fwnh echrxeto polloi de paralelumenoi kai xwloi eqerapeuqhsan 8:7 For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.
8:8 Factum est ergo gaudium magnum in illa civitate. 8:8 kai egeneto xara megalh en th polei ekeinh 8:8 And there was great joy in that city.
8:9 Vir autem quidam nomine Simon, qui ante fuerat in civitate magnus, seducens gentem Samariæ, dicens se esse aliquem magnum: 8:9 anhr de tij onomati simwn prouphrxen en th polei mageuwn kai ecistwn to eqnoj thj samareiaj legwn einai tina eauton megan 8:9 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:
Acts 8:10 cui auscultabant omnes a minimo usque ad maximum, dicentes: Hic est virtus Dei, quæ vocatur magna. Acts 8:10 w proseixon pantej apo mikrou ewj megalou legontej outoj estin h dunamij tou qeou h megalh Acts 8:10 To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.
8:11 Attendebant autem eum: propter quod multo tempore magiis suis dementasset eos. 8:11 proseixon de autw dia to ikanw xronw taij mageiaij ecestakenai autouj 8:11 And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.
8:12 Cum vero credidissent Philippo evangelizanti de regno Dei, in nomine Jesu Christi baptizabantur viri ac mulieres. 8:12 ote de episteusan tw filippw euaggelizomenw ta peri thj basileiaj tou qeou kai tou onomatoj tou ihsou xristou ebaptizonto andrej te kai gunaikej 8:12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
8:13 Tunc Simon et ipse credidit: et cum baptizatus esset, adhærebat Philippo. Videns etiam signa et virtutes maximas fieri, stupens admirabatur. 8:13 o de simwn kai autoj episteusen kai baptisqeij hn proskarterwn tw filippw qewrwn te dunameij kai shmeia ginomena ecistato 8:13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.
8:14 Cum autem audissent Apostoli qui erant Jerosolymis, quod recepisset Samaria verbum Dei, miserunt ad eos Petrum et Joannem. 8:14 akousantej de oi en ierosolumoij apostoloi oti dedektai h samareia ton logon tou qeou apesteilan proj autouj ton petron kai iwannhn 8:14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
8:15 Qui cum venissent, oraverunt pro ipsis ut acciperent Spiritum Sanctum: 8:15 oitinej katabantej proshucanto peri autwn opwj labwsin pneuma agion 8:15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
8:16 nondum enim in quemquam illorum venerat, sed baptizati tantum erant in nomine Domini Jesu. 8:16 oupw gar hn ep oudeni autwn epipeptwkoj monon de bebaptismenoi uphrxon eij to onoma tou kuriou ihsou 8:16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
8:17 Tunc imponebant manus super illos, et accipiebant Spiritum Sanctum. 8:17 tote epetiqoun taj xeiraj ep autouj kai elambanon pneuma agion 8:17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
8:18 Cum vidisset autem Simon quia per impositionem manus Apostolorum daretur Spiritus Sanctus, obtulit eis pecuniam, 8:18 qeasamenoj de o simwn oti dia thj epiqesewj twn xeirwn twn apostolwn didotai to pneuma to agion proshnegken autoij xrhmata 8:18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,
8:19 dicens: Date et mihi hanc potestatem, ut cuicumque imposuero manus, accipiat Spiritum Sanctum. 8:19 legwn dote kamoi thn ecousian tauthn ina w ean epiqw taj xeiraj lambanh pneuma agion 8:19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.
Acts 8:20 Petrus autem dixit ad eum: Pecunia tua tecum sit in perditionem: quoniam donum Dei existimasti pecunia possideri. Acts 8:20 petroj de eipen proj auton to argurion sou sun soi eih eij apwleian oti thn dwrean tou qeou enomisaj dia xrhmatwn ktasqai Acts 8:20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.
8:21 Non est tibi pars neque sors in sermone isto: cor enim tuum non est rectum coram Deo. 8:21 ouk estin soi merij oude klhroj en tw logw toutw h gar kardia sou ouk estin euqeia enwpion tou qeou 8:21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.
8:22 Pœnitentiam itaque age ab hac nequitia tua: et roga Deum, si forte remittatur tibi hæc cogitatio cordis tui. 8:22 metanohson oun apo thj kakiaj sou tauthj kai dehqhti tou qeou ei ara afeqhsetai soi h epinoia thj kardiaj sou 8:22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.
8:23 In felle enim amaritudinis, et obligatione iniquitatis, video te esse. 8:23 eij gar xolhn pikriaj kai sundesmon adikiaj orw se onta 8:23 For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.
8:24 Respondens autem Simon, dixit: Precamini vos pro me ad Dominum, ut nihil veniat super me horum quæ dixistis. 8:24 apokriqeij de o simwn eipen dehqhte umeij uper emou proj ton kurion opwj mhden epelqh ep eme wn eirhkate 8:24 Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.
8:25 Et illi quidem testificati, et locuti verbum Domini, redibant Jerosolymam, et multis regionibus Samaritanorum evangelizabant. 8:25 oi men oun diamarturamenoi kai lalhsantej ton logon tou kuriou upestreyan eij ierousalhm pollaj te kwmaj twn samareitwn euhggelisanto 8:25 And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.
8:26 Angelus autem Domini locutus est ad Philippum, dicens: Surge, et vade contra meridianum, ad viam quæ descendit ab Jerusalem in Gazam: hæc est deserta. 8:26 aggeloj de kuriou elalhsen proj filippon legwn anasthqi kai poreuou kata meshmbrian epi thn odon thn katabainousan apo ierousalhm eij gazan auth estin erhmoj 8:26 And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.
8:27 Et surgens abiit. Et ecce vir Æthiops, eunuchus, potens Candacis reginæ Æthiopum, qui erat super omnes gazas ejus, venerat adorare in Jerusalem: 8:27 kai anastaj eporeuqh kai idou anhr aiqioy eunouxoj dunasthj kandakhj thj basilisshj aiqiopwn oj hn epi pashj thj gazhj authj oj elhluqei proskunhswn eij ierousalhm 8:27 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,
8:28 et revertebatur sedens super currum suum, legensque Isaiam prophetam. 8:28 hn te upostrefwn kai kaqhmenoj epi tou armatoj autou aneginwsken ton profhthn hsaian 8:28 Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.
8:29 Dixit autem Spiritus Philippo: Accede, et adjunge te ad currum istum. 8:29 eipen de to pneuma tw filippw proselqe kai kollhqhti tw armati toutw 8:29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.
Acts 8:30 Accurrens autem Philippus, audivit eum legentem Isaiam prophetam, et dixit: Putasne intelligis quæ legis? Acts 8:30 prosdramwn de o filippoj hkousen autou anaginwskontoj ton profhthn hsaian kai eipen ara ge ginwskeij a anaginwskeij Acts 8:30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
8:31 Qui ait: Et quomodo possum, si non aliquis ostenderit mihi? Rogavitque Philippum ut ascenderet, et sederet secum. 8:31 o de eipen pwj gar an dunaimhn ean mh tij odhghsh me parekalesen te ton filippon anabanta kaqisai sun autw 8:31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
8:32 Locus autem Scripturæ quem legebat, erat hic: [Tamquam ovis ad occisionem ductus est: et sicut agnus coram tondente se, sine voce, sic non aperuit os suum. 8:32 h de perioxh thj grafhj hn aneginwsken hn auth wj probaton epi sfaghn hxqh kai wj amnoj enantion tou keirontoj auton afwnoj outwj ouk anoigei to stoma autou 8:32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:
8:33 In humilitate judicium ejus sublatum est. Generationem ejus quis enarrabit? quoniam tolletur de terra vita ejus.] 8:33 en th tapeinwsei autou h krisij autou hrqh thn de genean autou tij dihghsetai oti airetai apo thj ghj h zwh autou 8:33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.
8:34 Respondens autem eunuchus Philippo, dixit: Obsecro te, de quo propheta dicit hoc? de se, an de alio aliquo? 8:34 apokriqeij de o eunouxoj tw filippw eipen deomai sou peri tinoj o profhthj legei touto peri eautou h peri eterou tinoj 8:34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?
8:35 Aperiens autem Philippus os suum, et incipiens a Scriptura ista, evangelizavit illi Jesum. 8:35 anoicaj de o filippoj to stoma autou kai arcamenoj apo thj grafhj tauthj euhggelisato autw ton ihsoun 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.
8:36 Et dum irent per viam, venerunt ad quamdam aquam: et ait eunuchus: Ecce aqua: quid prohibet me baptizari? 8:36 wj de eporeuonto kata thn odon hlqon epi ti udwr kai fhsin o eunouxoj idou udwr ti kwluei me baptisqhnai 8:36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
8:37 Dixit autem Philippus: Si credis ex toto corde, licet. Et respondens ait: Credo Filium Dei esse Jesum Christum. 8:37 eipen de o filippoj ei pisteueij ec olhj thj kardiaj ecestin apokriqeij de eipen pisteuw ton uion tou qeou einai ton ihsoun xriston 8:37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
8:38 Et jussit stare currum: et descenderunt uterque in aquam, Philippus et eunuchus, et baptizavit eum. 8:38 kai ekeleusen sthnai to arma kai katebhsan amfoteroi eij to udwr o te filippoj kai o eunouxoj kai ebaptisen auton 8:38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
8:39 Cum autem ascendissent de aqua, Spiritus Domini rapuit Philippum, et amplius non vidit eum eunuchus. Ibat autem per viam suam gaudens. 8:39 ote de anebhsan ek tou udatoj pneuma kuriou hrpasen ton filippon kai ouk eiden auton ouketi o eunouxoj eporeueto gar thn odon autou xairwn 8:39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.
Acts 8:40 Philippus autem inventus est in Azoto, et pertransiens evangelizabat civitatibus cunctis, donec veniret Cæsaream. Acts 8:40 filippoj de eureqh eij azwton kai dierxomenoj euhggelizeto taj poleij pasaj ewj tou elqein auton eij kaisareian Acts 8:40 But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.
