1:2 Sicut scriptum est in Isaia propheta: [Ecce ego mitto angelum meum ante faciem tuam, qui præparabit viam tuam ante te. 1:2 wj gegraptai en toij profhtaij idou egw apostellw ton aggelon mou pro proswpou sou oj kataskeuasei thn odon sou emprosqen sou 1:2 As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
1:3 Vox clamantis in deserto: Parate viam Domini, rectas facite semitas ejus.] 1:3 fwnh bowntoj en th erhmw etoimasate thn odon kuriou euqeiaj poieite taj tribouj autou 1:3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
1:4 Fuit Joannes in deserto baptizans, et prædicans baptismum pœnitentiæ in remissionem peccatorum. 1:4 egeneto iwannhj baptizwn en th erhmw kai khrusswn baptisma metanoiaj eij afesin amartiwn 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
1:5 Et egrediebatur ad eum omnis Judææ regio, et Jerosolymitæ universi, et baptizabantur ab illo in Jordanis flumine, confitentes peccata sua. 1:5 kai eceporeueto proj auton pasa h ioudaia xwra kai oi ierosolumitai kai ebaptizonto pantej en tw iordanh potamw up autou ecomologoumenoi taj amartiaj autwn 1:5 And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.
1:6 Et erat Joannes vestitus pilis cameli, et zona pellicea circa lumbos ejus, et locustas et mel silvestre edebat. 1:6 hn de iwannhj endedumenoj trixaj kamhlou kai zwnhn dermatinhn peri thn osfun autou kai esqiwn akridaj kai meli agrion 1:6 And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;
1:7 Et prædicabat dicens: Venit fortior post me, cujus non sum dignus procumbens solvere corrigiam calceamentorum ejus. 1:7 kai ekhrussen legwn erxetai o isxuroteroj mou opisw mou ou ouk eimi ikanoj kuyaj lusai ton imanta twn upodhmatwn autou 1:7 And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.
1:8 Ego baptizavi vos aqua, ille vero baptizabit vos Spiritu Sancto. 1:8 egw men ebaptisa umaj en udati autoj de baptisei umaj en pneumati agiw 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
1:9 Et factum est: in diebus illis venit Jesus a Nazareth Galilææ: et baptizatus est a Joanne in Jordane. 1:9 kai egeneto en ekeinaij taij hmeraij hlqen ihsouj apo nazareq thj galilaiaj kai ebaptisqh upo iwannou eij ton iordanhn 1:9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.
Mark 1:10 Et statim ascendens de aqua, vidit cælos apertos, et Spiritum tamquam columbam descendentem, et manentem in ipso. Mark 1:10 kai euqewj anabainwn apo tou udatoj eiden sxizomenouj touj ouranouj kai to pneuma wsei peristeran katabainon ep auton Mark 1:10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:
1:11 Et vox facta est de cælis: Tu es Filius meus dilectus, in te complacui. 1:11 kai fwnh egeneto ek twn ouranwn su ei o uioj mou o agaphtoj en w eudokhsa 1:11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
1:12 Et statim Spiritus expulit eum in desertum. 1:12 kai euquj to pneuma auton ekballei eij thn erhmon 1:12 And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness.
1:13 Et erat in deserto quadraginta diebus, et quadraginta noctibus: et tentabatur a Satana: eratque cum bestiis, et angeli ministrabant illi. 1:13 kai hn ekei en th erhmw hmeraj tessarakonta peirazomenoj upo tou satana kai hn meta twn qhriwn kai oi aggeloi dihkonoun autw 1:13 And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.
1:14 Postquam autem traditus est Joannes, venit Jesus in Galilæam, prædicans Evangelium regni Dei, 1:14 meta de to paradoqhnai ton iwannhn hlqen o ihsouj eij thn galilaian khrusswn to euaggelion thj basileiaj tou qeou 1:14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
1:15 et dicens: Quoniam impletum est tempus, et appropinquavit regnum Dei: pœnitemini, et credite Evangelio. 1:15 kai legwn oti peplhrwtai o kairoj kai hggiken h basileia tou qeou metanoeite kai pisteuete en tw euaggeliw 1:15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
1:16 Et præteriens secus mare Galilææ, vidit Simonem, et Andream fratrem ejus, mittentes retia in mare (erant enim piscatores), 1:16 peripatwn de para thn qalassan thj galilaiaj eiden simwna kai andrean ton adelfon autou ballontaj amfiblhstron en th qalassh hsan gar alieij 1:16 Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
1:17 et dixit eis Jesus: Venite post me, et faciam vos fieri piscatores hominum. 1:17 kai eipen autoij o ihsouj deute opisw mou kai poihsw umaj genesqai alieij anqrwpwn 1:17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
1:18 Et protinus relictis retibus, secuti sunt eum. 1:18 kai euqewj afentej ta diktua autwn hkolouqhsan autw 1:18 And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.
1:19 Et progressus inde pusillum, vidit Jacobum Zebedæi, et Joannem fratrem ejus, et ipsos componentes retia in navi: 1:19 kai probaj ekeiqen oligon eiden iakwbon ton tou zebedaiou kai iwannhn ton adelfon autou kai autouj en tw ploiw katartizontaj ta diktua 1:19 And when he had gone a little further thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets.
Mark 1:20 et statim vocavit illos. Et relicto patre suo Zebedæo in navi cum mercenariis, secuti sunt eum. Mark 1:20 kai euqewj ekalesen autouj kai afentej ton patera autwn zebedaion en tw ploiw meta twn misqwtwn aphlqon opisw autou Mark 1:20 And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.
1:21 Et ingrediuntur Capharnaum: et statim sabbatis ingressus in synagogam, docebat eos. 1:21 kai eisporeuontai eij kapernaoum kai euqewj toij sabbasin eiselqwn eij thn sunagwghn edidasken 1:21 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.
1:22 Et stupebant super doctrina ejus: erat enim docens eos quasi potestatem habens, et non sicut scribæ. 1:22 kai eceplhssonto epi th didaxh autou hn gar didaskwn autouj wj ecousian exwn kai oux wj oi grammateij 1:22 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.
1:23 Et erat in synagoga eorum homo in spiritu immundo: et exclamavit, 1:23 kai hn en th sunagwgh autwn anqrwpoj en pneumati akaqartw kai anekracen 1:23 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,
1:24 dicens: Quid nobis et tibi, Jesu Nazarene? venisti perdere nos? scio qui sis, Sanctus Dei. 1:24 legwn ea ti hmin kai soi ihsou nazarhne hlqej apolesai hmaj oida se tij ei o agioj tou qeou 1:24 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
1:25 Et comminatus est ei Jesus, dicens: Obmutesce, et exi de homine. 1:25 kai epetimhsen autw o ihsouj legwn fimwqhti kai ecelqe ec autou 1:25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.
1:26 Et discerpens eum spiritus immundus, et exclamans voce magna, exiit ab eo. 1:26 kai sparacan auton to pneuma to akaqarton kai kracan fwnh megalh echlqen ec autou 1:26 And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.
1:27 Et mirati sunt omnes, ita ut conquirerent inter se dicentes: Quidnam est hoc? quænam doctrina hæc nova? quia in potestate etiam spiritibus immundis imperat, et obediunt ei. 1:27 kai eqambhqhsan pantej wste suzhtein proj autouj legontaj ti estin touto tij h didaxh h kainh auth oti kat ecousian kai toij pneumasin toij akaqartoij epitassei kai upakouousin autw 1:27 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.
1:28 Et processit rumor ejus statim in omnem regionem Galilææ. 1:28 echlqen de h akoh autou euquj eij olhn thn perixwron thj galilaiaj 1:28 And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee.
1:29 Et protinus egredientes de synagoga, venerunt in domum Simonis et Andreæ, cum Jacobo et Joanne. 1:29 kai euqewj ek thj sunagwghj ecelqontej hlqon eij thn oikian simwnoj kai andreou meta iakwbou kai iwannou 1:29 And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
Mark 1:30 Decumbebat autem socrus Simonis febricitans: et statim dicunt ei de illa. Mark 1:30 h de penqera simwnoj katekeito puressousa kai euqewj legousin autw peri authj Mark 1:30 But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.
1:31 Et accedens elevavit eam, apprehensa manu ejus: et continuo dimisit eam febris, et ministrabat eis. 1:31 kai proselqwn hgeiren authn krathsaj thj xeiroj authj kai afhken authn o puretoj euqewj kai dihkonei autoij 1:31 And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.
1:32 Vespere autem facto cum occidisset sol, afferebant ad eum omnes male habentes, et dæmonia habentes: 1:32 oyiaj de genomenhj ote edu o hlioj eferon proj auton pantaj touj kakwj exontaj kai touj daimonizomenouj 1:32 And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.
1:33 et erat omnis civitas congregata ad januam. 1:33 kai h polij olh episunhgmenh hn proj thn quran 1:33 And all the city was gathered together at the door.
1:34 Et curavit multos, qui vexabantur variis languoribus, et dæmonia multa ejiciebat, et non sinebat ea loqui, quoniam sciebant eum. 1:34 kai eqerapeusen pollouj kakwj exontaj poikilaij nosoij kai daimonia polla ecebalen kai ouk hfien lalein ta daimonia oti hdeisan auton 1:34 And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.
1:35 Et diluculo valde surgens, egressus abiit in desertum locum, ibique orabat. 1:35 kai prwi ennuxon lian anastaj echlqen kai aphlqen eij erhmon topon kakei proshuxeto 1:35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
1:36 Et prosecutus est eum Simon, et qui cum illo erant. 1:36 kai katediwcan auton o simwn kai oi met autou 1:36 And Simon and they that were with him followed after him.
1:37 Et cum invenissent eum, dixerunt ei: Quia omnes quærunt te. 1:37 kai eurontej auton legousin autw oti pantej zhtousin se 1:37 And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee.
1:38 Et ait illis: Eamus in proximos vicos, et civitates, ut et ibi prædicem: ad hoc enim veni. 1:38 kai legei autoij agwmen eij taj exomenaj kwmopoleij ina kakei khrucw eij touto gar ecelhluqa 1:38 And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth.
1:39 Et erat prædicans in synagogis eorum, et in omni Galilæa, et dæmonia ejiciens. 1:39 kai hn khrusswn en taij sunagwgaij autwn eij olhn thn galilaian kai ta daimonia ekballwn 1:39 And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils.
Mark 1:40 Et venit ad eum leprosus deprecans eum: et genu flexo dixit ei: Si vis, potes me mundare. Mark 1:40 kai erxetai proj auton leproj parakalwn auton kai gonupetwn auton kai legwn autw oti ean qelhj dunasai me kaqarisai Mark 1:40 And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
1:41 Jesus autem misertus ejus, extendit manum suam: et tangens eum, ait illi: Volo: mundare. 1:41 o de ihsouj splagxnisqeij ekteinaj thn xeira hyato autou kai legei autw qelw kaqarisqhti 1:41 And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.
1:42 Et cum dixisset, statim discessit ab eo lepra, et mundatus est. 1:42 kai eipontoj autou euqewj aphlqen ap autou h lepra kai ekaqarisqh 1:42 And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.
1:43 Et comminatus est ei, statimque ejecit illum, 1:43 kai embrimhsamenoj autw euqewj ecebalen auton 1:43 And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away;
1:44 et dicit ei: Vide nemini dixeris: sed vade, ostende te principi sacerdotum, et offer pro emundatione tua, quæ præcepit Moyses in testimonium illis. 1:44 kai legei autw ora mhdeni mhden eiphj all upage seauton deicon tw ierei kai prosenegke peri tou kaqarismou sou a prosetacen mwshj eij marturion autoij 1:44 And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
1:45 At ille egressus cœpit prædicare, et diffamare sermonem, ita ut jam non posset manifeste introire in civitatem, sed foris in desertis locis esset, et conveniebant ad eum undique. 1:45 o de ecelqwn hrcato khrussein polla kai diafhmizein ton logon wste mhketi auton dunasqai fanerwj eij polin eiselqein all ecw en erhmoij topoij hn kai hrxonto proj auton pantaxoqen 1:45 But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to blaze abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.
