MARK CHAPTER 9

The first verse in this chapter was the last verse of Mark Chapter 8 in the Vulgate. All the verses in Chapter 9 in the Vulgate have been increased by one in order to line up with the Textus Receptus and the King James Version.

9:5 Et respondens Petrus, ait Jesu: Rabbi, bonum est nos hic esse: et faciamus tria tabernacula, tibi unum, et Moysi unum, et Eliæ unum. 9:5 kai apokriqeij o petroj legei tw ihsou rabbi kalon estin hmaj wde einai kai poihswmen skhnaj treij soi mian kai mwsei mian kai hlia mian 9:5 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
9:6 Non enim sciebat quid diceret: erant enim timore exterriti. 9:6 ou gar hdei ti lalhsh hsan gar ekfoboi 9:6 For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid.

9:8 Et statim circumspicientes, neminem amplius viderunt, nisi Jesum tantum secum. 9:8 kai ecapina peribleyamenoi ouketi oudena eidon alla ton ihsoun monon meq eautwn 9:8 And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves.
9:9 Et descendentibus illis de monte, præcepit illis ne cuiquam quæ vidissent, narrarent: nisi cum Filius hominis a mortuis resurrexerit. 9:9 katabainontwn de autwn apo tou orouj diesteilato autoij ina mhdeni dihghswntai a eidon ei mh otan o uioj tou anqrwpou ek nekrwn anasth 9:9 And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.
Mark 9:10 Et verbum continuerunt apud se: conquirentes quid esset, cum a mortuis resurrexerit. 9:12 Qui respondens, ait illis: Elias cum venerit primo, restituet omnia: et quomodo scriptum est in Filium hominis, ut multa patiatur et contemnatur. 9:12 o de apokriqeij eipen autoij hliaj men elqwn prwton apokaqista panta kai pwj gegraptai epi ton uion tou anqrwpou ina polla paqh kai ecoudenwqh 9:12 And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.

9:15 Et confestim omnis populus videns Jesum, stupefactus est, et expaverunt, et accurrentes salutabant eum. 9:15 kai euqewj paj o oxloj idwn auton eceqambhqh kai prostrexontej hspazonto auton 9:15 And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.
9:16 Et interrogavit eos: Quid inter vos conquiritis? 9:16 kai ephrwthsen touj grammateij ti suzhteite proj autouj 9:16 And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?
9:17 Et respondens unus de turba, dixit: Magister, attuli filium meum ad te habentem spiritum mutum: 9:17 kai apokriqeij eij ek tou oxlou eipen didaskale hnegka ton uion mou proj se exonta pneuma alalon 9:17 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;
9:18 qui ubicumque eum apprehenderit, allidit illum, et spumat, et stridet dentibus, et arescit: et dixi discipulis tuis ut ejicerent illum, et non potuerunt. 9:18 kai opou an auton katalabh rhssei auton kai afrizei kai trizei touj odontaj autou kai chrainetai kai eipon toij maqhtaij sou ina auto ekbalwsin kai ouk isxusan 9:18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.
9:19 Qui respondens eis, dixit: O generatio incredula, quamdiu apud vos ero? quamdiu vos patiar? afferte illum ad me. 9:19 o de apokriqeij autw legei w genea apistoj ewj pote proj umaj esomai ewj pote anecomai umwn ferete auton proj me 9:19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.
Mark 9:20 Et attulerunt eum. Et cum vidisset eum, statim spiritus conturbavit illum: et elisus in terram, volutabatur spumans. At ille ait: Ab infantia: 9:21 kai ephrwthsen ton patera autou posoj xronoj estin wj touto gegonen autw o de eipen paidioqen 9:21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
9:22 et frequenter eum in ignem, et in aquas misit ut eum perderet: sed si quid potes, adjuva nos, misertus nostri. 9:22 kai pollakij auton kai eij pur ebalen kai eij udata ina apolesh auton all ei ti dunasai bohqhson hmin splagxnisqeij ef hmaj 9:22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
9:23 Jesus autem ait illi: Si potes credere, omnia possibilia sunt credenti. 9:23 o de ihsouj eipen autw to ei dunasai pisteusai panta dunata tw pisteuonti 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
9:24 Et continuo exclamans pater pueri, cum lacrimis aiebat: Credo, Domine; adjuva incredulitatem meam. 9:24 kai euqewj kracaj o pathr tou paidiou meta dakruwn elegen pisteuw kurie bohqei mou th apistia 9:24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
9:25 Et cum videret Jesus concurrentem turbam, comminatus est spiritui immundo, dicens illi: Surde et mute spiritus, ego præcipio tibi, exi ab eo: et amplius ne introëas in eum. 9:25 idwn de o ihsouj oti episuntrexei oxloj epetimhsen tw pneumati tw akaqartw legwn autw to pneuma to alalon kai kwfon egw soi epitassw ecelqe ec autou kai mhketi eiselqhj eij auton 9:25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
9:26 Et exclamans, et multum discerpens eum, exiit ab eo, et factus est sicut mortuus, ita ut multi dicerent: Quia mortuus est. 9:26 kai kracan kai polla sparacan auton echlqen kai egeneto wsei nekroj wste pollouj legein oti aeqanen 9:26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
9:27 Jesus autem tenens manum ejus elevavit eum, et surrexit. 9:27 o de ihsouj krathsaj auton thj xeiroj hgeiren auton kai anesth 9:27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
9:28 Et cum introisset in domum, discipuli ejus secreto interrogabant eum: Quare nos non potuimus ejicere eum? 9:28 kai eiselqonta auton eij oikon oi maqhtai autou ephrwtwn auton kat idian oti hmeij ouk hdunhqhmen ekbalein auto 9:28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?
9:29 Et dixit illis: Hoc genus in nullo potest exire, nisi in oratione et jejunio. 9:29 kai eipen autoij touto to genoj en oudeni dunatai ecelqein ei mh en proseuxh kai nhsteia 9:29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
Mark 9:30 Et inde profecti prætergrediebantur Galilæam: nec volebat quemquam scire. Mark 9:30 kai ekeiqen ecelqontej pareporeuonto dia thj galilaiaj kai ouk hqelen ina tij gnw Mark 9:30 And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it.
9:31 Docebat autem discipulos suos, et dicebat illis: Quoniam Filius hominis tradetur in manus hominum, et occident eum, et occisus tertia die resurget. 9:31 edidasken gar touj maqhtaj autou kai elegen autoij oti o uioj tou anqrwpou paradidotai eij xeiraj anqrwpwn kai apoktenousin auton kai apoktanqeij th trith hmera anasthsetai 9:31 For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.
9:32 At illi ignorabant verbum: et timebant interrogare eum. 9:32 oi de hgnooun to rhma kai efobounto auton eperwthsai 9:32 But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.
9:33 Et venerunt Capharnaum. Qui cum domi essent, interrogabat eos: Quid in via tractabatis? 9:33 kai hlqen eij kapernaoum kai en th oikia genomenoj ephrwta autouj ti en th odw proj eautouj dielogizesqe 9:33 And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?
9:34 At illi tacebant: siquidem in via inter se disputaverunt: quis eorum major esset. 9:34 oi de esiwpwn proj allhlouj gar dielexqhsan en th odw tij meizwn 9:34 But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.
9:35 Et residens vocavit duodecim, et ait illis: Si quis vult primus esse, erit omnium novissimus, et omnium minister. 9:35 kai kaqisaj efwnhsen touj dwdeka kai legei autoij ei tij qelei prwtoj einai estai pantwn esxatoj kai pantwn diakonoj 9:35 And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.
9:36 Et accipiens puerum, statuit eum in medio eorum: quem cum complexus esset, ait illis: 9:36 kai labwn paidion esthsen auto en mesw autwn kai enagkalisamenoj auto eipen autoij 9:36 And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them,
9:37 Quisquis unum ex hujusmodi pueris receperit in nomine meo, me recipit: et quicumque me susceperit, non me suscipit, sed eum qui misit me. 9:37 oj ean en twn toioutwn paidiwn dechtai epi tw onomati mou eme dexetai kai oj ean eme dechtai ouk eme dexetai alla ton aposteilanta me 9:37 Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.
9:38 Respondit illi Joannes, dicens: Magister, vidimus quemdam in nomine tuo ejicientem dæmonia, qui non sequitur nos, et prohibuimus eum. 9:38 apekriqh de autw o iwannhj legwn didaskale eidomen tina en tw onomati sou ekballonta daimonia oj ouk akolouqei hmin kai ekwlusamen auton oti ouk akolouqei hmin 9:38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.
9:39 Jesus autem ait: Nolite prohibere eum: nemo est enim qui faciat virtutem in nomine meo, et possit cito male loqui de me: 9:39 o de ihsouj eipen mh kwluete auton oudeij gar estin oj poihsei dunamin epi tw onomati mou kai dunhsetai taxu kakologhsai me 9:39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.
Mark 9:40 qui enim non est adversum vos, pro vobis est. Mark 9:40 oj gar ouk estin kaq hmwn uper hmwn estin Mark 9:40 For he that is not against us is on our part.
9:41 Quisquis enim potum dederit vobis calicem aquæ in nomine meo, quia Christi estis: amen dico vobis, non perdet mercedem suam. 9:41 oj gar an potish umaj pothrion udatoj en tw onomati mou oti xristou este amhn legw umin ou mh apolesh ton misqon autou 9:41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
9:42 Et quisquis scandalizaverit unum ex his pusillis credentibus in me: bonum est ei magis si circumdaretur mola asinaria collo ejus, et in mare mitteretur. 9:42 kai oj an skandalish ena twn mikrwn toutwn twn pisteuontwn eij eme kalon estin autw mallon ei perikeitai liqoj mulikoj peri ton traxhlon autou kai beblhtai eij thn qalassan 9:42 And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.
9:43 Et si scandalizaverit te manus tua, abscide illam: bonum est tibi debilem introire in vitam, quam duas manus habentem ire in gehennam, in ignem inextinguibilem, 9:43 kai ean skandalizh se h xeir sou apokoyon authn kalon soi estin kullon eij thn zwhn eiselqein h taj duo xeiraj exonta apelqein eij thn geennan eij to pur to asbeston 9:43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
9:44 ubi vermis eorum non moritur, et ignis non extinguitur. 9:44 opou o skwlhc autwn ou teleuta kai to pur ou sbennutai 9:44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
9:45 Et si pes tuus te scandalizat, amputa illum: bonum est tibi claudum introire in vitam æternam, quam duos pedes habentem mitti in gehennam ignis inextinguibilis, 9:45 kai ean o pouj sou skandalizh se apokoyon auton kalon estin soi eiselqein eij thn zwhn xwlon h touj duo podaj exonta blhqhnai eij thn geennan eij to pur to asbeston 9:45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

9:47 Quod si oculus tuus scandalizat te, ejice eum: bonum est tibi luscum introire in regnum Dei, quam duos oculos habentem mitti in gehennam ignis, 9:47 kai ean o ofqalmoj sou skandalizh se ekbale auton kalon soi estin monofqalmon eiselqein eij thn basileian tou qeou h duo ofqalmouj exonta blhqhnai eij thn geennan tou puroj 9:47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:
9:48 ubi vermis eorum non moritur, et ignis non extinguitur. 9:48 opou o skwlhc autwn ou teleuta kai to pur ou sbennutai 9:48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
9:49 Omnis enim igne salietur, et omnis victima sale salietur. 9:49 paj gar puri alisqhsetai kai pasa qusia ali alisqhsetai 9:49 For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.
Mark 9:50 Bonum est sal: quod si sal insulsum fuerit, in quo illud condietis? Habete in vobis sal, et pacem habete inter vos.
