Luke 9:1 Convocatis autem duodecim Apostolis, dedit illis virtutem et potestatem super omnia dæmonia, et ut languores curarent. Luke 9:1 sugkalesamenoj de touj dwdeka maqhtaj autou edwken autoij dunamin kai ecousian epi panta ta daimonia kai nosouj qerapeuein Luke 9:1 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.
9:2 Et misit illos prædicare regnum Dei, et sanare infirmos. 9:2 kai apesteilen autouj khrussein thn basileian tou qeou kai iasqai touj asqenountaj 9:2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.
9:3 Et ait ad illos: Nihil tuleritis in via, neque virgam, neque peram, neque panem, neque pecuniam, neque duas tunicas habeatis. 9:3 kai eipen proj autouj mhden airete eij thn odon mhte rabdouj mhte phran mhte arton mhte argurion mhte ana duo xitwnaj exein 9:3 And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece.
9:4 Et in quamcumque domum intraveritis, ibi manete, et inde ne exeatis. 9:4 kai eij hn an oikian eiselqhte ekei menete kai ekeiqen ecerxesqe 9:4 And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart.

9:6 Egressi autem circuibant per castella evangelizantes, et curantes ubique. 9:6 ecerxomenoi de dihrxonto kata taj kwmaj euaggelizomenoi kai qerapeuontej pantaxou 9:6 And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where.
9:7 Audivit autem Herodes tetrarcha omnia quæ fiebant ab eo, et hæsitabat eo quod diceretur 9:7 hkousen de hrwdhj o tetrarxhj ta ginomena up autou panta kai dihporei dia to legesqai upo tinwn oti iwannhj eghgertai ek nekrwn 9:7 Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he was perplexed, because that it was said of some, that John was risen from the dead;
9:8 a quibusdam: Quia Joannes surrexit a mortuis: a quibusdam vero: Quia Elias apparuit: ab aliis autem: Quia propheta unus de antiquis surrexit. 9:8 upo tinwn de oti hliaj efanh allwn de oti profhthj eij twn arxaiwn anesth 9:8 And of some, that Elias had appeared; and of others, that one of the old prophets was risen again.
9:9 Et ait Herodes: Joannem ego decollavit: quis est autem iste, de quo ego talia audio? And he desired to see him.
Luke 9:10 Et reversi Apostoli, narraverunt illi quæcumque fecerunt: et assumptis illis secessit seorsum in locum desertum, qui est Bethsaidæ. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.

9:13 Ait autem ad illos: Vos date illis manducare. At illi dixerunt: Non sunt nobis plus quam quinque panes et duo pisces: nisi forte nos eamus, et emamus in omnem hanc turbam escas. 9:13 eipen de proj autouj dote autoij umeij fagein oi de eipon ouk eisin hmin pleion h pente artoi kai duo ixquej ei mhti poreuqentej hmeij agoraswmen eij panta ton laon touton brwmata 9:13 But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people.
9:14 Erant autem fere viri quinque millia. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company.

9:16 Acceptis autem quinque panibus et duobus piscibus, respexit in cælum, et benedixit illis: et fregit, et distribuit discipulis suis, ut ponerent ante turbas. 9:16 labwn de touj pente artouj kai touj duo ixquaj anableyaj eij ton ouranon euloghsen autouj kai kateklasen kai edidou toij maqhtaij paratiqenai tw oxlw 9:16 Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude.
9:17 Et manducaverunt omnes, et saturati sunt. 9:18 Et factum est cum solus esset orans, erant cum illo et discipuli: et interrogavit illos, dicens: Quem me dicunt esse turbæ? 9:18 kai egeneto en tw einai auton proseuxomenon katamonaj sunhsan autw oi maqhtai kai ephrwthsen autouj legwn tina me legousin oi oxloi einai 9:18 And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am?
9:19 At illi responderunt, et dixerunt: Joannem Baptistam, alii autem Eliam, alii vero unus propheta de prioribus surrexit. 9:19 oi de apokriqentej eipon iwannhn ton baptisthn alloi de hlian alloi de oti profhthj tij twn arxaiwn anesth 9:19 They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again.
Luke 9:20 Dixit autem illis: Vos autem quem me esse dicitis? Respondens Simon Petrus, dixit: Christum Dei. Luke 9:20 eipen de autoij umeij de tina me legete einai apokriqeij de o petroj eipen ton xriston tou qeou Luke 9:20 He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God.
9:21 At ille increpans illos, præcepit ne cui dicerent hoc, 9:21 o de epitimhsaj autoij parhggeilen mhdeni eipein touto 9:21 And he straitly charged them, and commanded them to tell no man that thing;
9:22 dicens: Quia oportet Filium hominis multa pati, et reprobari a senioribus, et principibus sacerdotum, et scribis, et occidi, et tertia die resurgere. 9:22 eipwn oti dei ton uion tou anqrwpou polla paqein kai apodokimasqhnai apo twn presbuterwn kai arxierewn kai grammatewn kai apoktanqhnai kai th trith hmera egerqhnai 9:22 Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.
9:23 Dicebat autem ad omnes: Si quis vult post me venire, abneget semetipsum, et tollat crucem suam quotidie, et sequatur me. 9:23 elegen de proj pantaj ei tij qelei opisw mou elqein aparnhsasqw eauton kai aratw ton stauron autou kaq hmeran kai akolouqeitw moi 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

9:25 Quid enim proficit homo, si lucretur universum mundum, se autem ipsum perdat, et detrimentum sui faciat? 9:25 ti gar wfeleitai anqrwpoj kerdhsaj ton kosmon olon eauton de apolesaj h zhmiwqeij 9:25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

9:27 Dico autem vobis vere: sunt aliqui hic stantes, qui non gustabunt mortem donec videant regnum Dei. 9:27 legw de umin alhqwj eisin tinej twn wde esthkotwn oi ou mh geusontai qanatou ewj an idwsin thn basileian tou qeou 9:27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.
9:28 Factum est autem post hæc verba fere dies octo, et assumpsit Petrum, et Jacobum, et Joannem, et ascendit in montem ut oraret. 9:28 egeneto de meta touj logouj toutouj wsei hmerai oktw kai paralabwn ton petron kai iwannhn kai iakwbon anebh eij to oroj proseucasqai 9:28 And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray.
9:29 Et facta est, dum oraret, species vultus ejus altera: et vestitus ejus albus et refulgens. 9:29 kai egeneto en tw proseuxesqai auton to eidoj tou proswpou autou eteron kai o imatismoj autou leukoj ecastraptwn 9:29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.
Luke 9:30 Et ecce duo viri loquebantur cum illo. Erant autem Moyses et Elias, Luke 9:30 kai idou andrej duo sunelaloun autw oitinej hsan mwshj kai hliaj Luke 9:30 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias:
9:31 visi in majestate: et dicebant excessum ejus, quem completurus erat in Jerusalem. 9:31 oi ofqentej en doch elegon thn ecodon autou hn emellen plhroun en ierousalhm 9:31 Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.
9:32 Petrus vero, et qui cum illo erant, gravati erant somno. Et evigilantes viderunt majestatem ejus, et duos viros qui stabant cum illo. 9:32 o de petroj kai oi sun autw hsan bebarhmenoi upnw diagrhgorhsantej de eidon thn docan autou kai touj duo andraj touj sunestwtaj autw 9:32 But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.
9:33 Et factum est cum discederent ab illo, ait Petrus ad Jesum: Præceptor, bonum est nos hic esse: et faciamus tria tabernacula, unum tibi, et unum Moysi, et unum Eliæ: nesciens quid diceret. 9:33 kai egeneto en tw diaxwrizesqai autouj ap autou eipen o petroj proj ton ihsoun epistata kalon estin hmaj wde einai kai poihswmen skhnaj treij mian soi kai mwsei mian kai mian hlia mh eidwj o legei 9:33 And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said.
9:34 Hæc autem illo loquente, facta est nubes, et obumbravit eos: et timuerunt, intrantibus illis in nubem. 9:34 tauta de autou legontoj egeneto nefelh kai epeskiasen autouj efobhqhsan de en tw ekeinouj eiselqein eij thn nefelhn 9:34 While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud.
9:35 Et vox facta est de nube, dicens: Hic est Filius meus dilectus, ipsum audite. 9:35 kai fwnh egeneto ek thj nefelhj legousa outoj estin o uioj mou o agaphtoj autou akouete 9:35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.
9:36 Et dum fieret vox, inventus est Jesus solus. Et ipsi tacuerunt, et nemini dixerunt in illis diebus quidquam ex his quæ viderant. 9:36 kai en tw genesqai thn fwnhn eureqh o ihsouj monoj kai autoi esighsan kai oudeni aphggeilan en ekeinaij taij hmeraij ouden wn ewrakasin 9:36 And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.
9:37 Factum est autem in sequenti die, descendentibus illis de monte, occurrit illis turba multa. 9:37 egeneto de en th echj hmera katelqontwn autwn apo tou orouj sunhnthsen autw oxloj poluj 9:37 And it came to pass, that on the next day, when they were come down from the hill, much people met him.
9:38 Et ecce vir de turba exclamavit, dicens: Magister, obsecro te, respice in filium meum quia unicus est mihi: 9:38 kai idou anhr apo tou oxlou anebohsen legwn didaskale deomai sou epibleyon epi ton uion mou oti monogenhj estin moi 9:38 And, behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee, look upon my son: for he is mine only child.
9:39 et ecce spiritus apprehendit eum, et subito clamat, et elidit, et dissipat eum cum spuma, et vix discedit dilanians eum: 9:39 kai idou pneuma lambanei auton kai ecaifnhj krazei kai sparassei auton meta afrou kai mogij apoxwrei ap autou suntribon auton 9:39 And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him.
Luke 9:40 et rogavi discipulos tuos ut ejicerent illum, et non potuerunt. Luke 9:40 kai edehqhn twn maqhtwn sou ina ekballwsin auto kai ouk hdunhqhsan Luke 9:40 And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not.
9:41 Respondens autem Jesus, dixit: O generatio infidelis, et perversa, usquequo ero apud vos, et patiar vos? adduc huc filium tuum. 9:41 apokriqeij de o ihsouj eipen w genea apistoj kai diestrammenh ewj pote esomai proj umaj kai anecomai umwn prosagage wde ton uion sou 9:41 And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither.
9:42 Et cum accederet, elisit illum dæmonium, et dissipavit. Et increpavit Jesus spiritum immundum, et sanavit puerum, et reddidit illum patri ejus. 9:42 eti de proserxomenou autou errhcen auton to daimonion kai sunesparacen epetimhsen de o ihsouj tw pneumati tw akaqartw kai iasato ton paida kai apedwken auton tw patri autou 9:42 And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.
9:43 Stupebant autem omnes in magnitudine Dei: omnibusque mirantibus in omnibus quæ faciebat, dixit ad discipulos suos: 9:43 eceplhssonto de pantej epi th megaleiothti tou qeou pantwn de qaumazontwn epi pasin oij epoihsen o ihsouj eipen proj touj maqhtaj autou 9:43 And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples,
9:44 Ponite vos in cordibus vestris sermones istos: Filius enim hominis futurum est ut tradatur in manus hominum. 9:44 qesqe umeij eij ta wta umwn touj logouj toutouj o gar uioj tou anqrwpou mellei paradidosqai eij xeiraj anqrwpwn 9:44 Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.
9:45 At illi ignorabant verbum istud, et erat velatum ante eos ut non sentirent illud: et timebant eum interrogare de hoc verbo. 9:45 oi de hgnooun to rhma touto kai hn parakekalummenon ap autwn ina mh aisqwntai auto kai efobounto erwthsai auton peri tou rhmatoj toutou 9:45 But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying.
9:46 Intravit autem cogitatio in eos quis eorum major esset. 9:46 eishlqen de dialogismoj en autoij to tij an eih meizwn autwn 9:46 Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest.
9:47 At Jesus videns cogitationes cordis illorum, apprehendit puerum, et statuit illum secus se, 9:47 o de ihsouj idwn ton dialogismon thj kardiaj autwn epilabomenoj paidiou esthsen auto par eautw 9:47 And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and set him by him,
9:48 et ait illis: Quicumque susceperit puerum istum in nomine meo, me recipit: et quicumque me receperit, recipit eum qui me misit. Nam qui minor est inter vos omnes, hic major est. 9:48 kai eipen autoij oj ean dechtai touto to paidion epi tw onomati mou eme dexetai kai oj ean eme dechtai dexetai ton aposteilanta me o gar mikroteroj en pasin umin uparxwn outoj estai megaj 9:48 And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.
9:49 Respondens autem Joannes dixit: Præceptor, vidimus quemdam in nomine tuo ejicientem dæmonia, et prohibuimus eum: quia non sequitur nobiscum. 9:49 apokriqeij de o iwannhj eipen epistata eidomen tina epi tw onomati sou ekballonta ta daimonia kai ekwlusamen auton oti ouk akolouqei meq hmwn 9:49 And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us.
Luke 9:50 Et ait ad illum Jesus: Nolite prohibere: qui enim non est adversum vos, pro vobis est. Luke 9:50 kai eipen proj auton o ihsouj mh kwluete oj gar ouk estin kaq hmwn uper hmwn estin Luke 9:50 And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.
9:51 Factum est autem dum complerentur dies assumptionis ejus, et ipse faciem suam firmavit ut iret in Jerusalem. 9:51 egeneto de en tw sumplhrousqai taj hmeraj thj analhyewj autou kai autoj to proswpon autou esthricen tou poreuesqai eij ierousalhm 9:51 And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,
9:52 Et misit nuntios ante conspectum suum: et euntes intraverunt in civitatem Samaritanorum ut parerent illi. 9:52 kai apesteilen aggelouj pro proswpou autou kai poreuqentej eishlqon eij kwmhn samareitwn wste etoimasai autw 9:52 And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.
9:53 Et non receperunt eum, quia facies ejus erat euntis in Jerusalem. 9:53 kai ouk edecanto auton oti to proswpon autou hn poreuomenon eij ierousalhm 9:53 And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem.
9:54 Cum vidissent autem discipuli ejus Jacobus et Joannes, dixerunt: Domine, vis dicimus ut ignis descendat de cælo, et consumat illos? 9:54 idontej de oi maqhtai autou iakwboj kai iwannhj eipon kurie qeleij eipwmen pur katabhnai apo tou ouranou kai analwsai autouj wj kai hliaj epoihsen 9:54 And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?
9:55 Et conversus increpavit illos, dicens: Nescitis cujus spiritus estis. 9:55 strafeij de epetimhsen autoij kai eipen ouk oidate oiou pneumatoj este umeij 9:55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.
9:56 Filius hominis non venit animas perdere, sed salvare. Et abierunt in aliud castellum. 9:56 o gar uioj tou anqrwpou ouk hlqen yuxaj anqrwpwn apolesai alla swsai kai eporeuqhsan eij eteran kwmhn 9:56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.
9:57 Factum est autem: ambulantibus illis in via, dixit quidam ad illum: Sequar te quocumque ieris. 9:57 egeneto de poreuomenwn autwn en th odw eipen tij proj auton akolouqhsw soi opou an aperxh kurie 9:57 And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
9:58 Dixit illi Jesus: Vulpes foveas habent, et volucres cæli nidos: Filius autem hominis non habet ubi caput reclinet. 9:58 kai eipen autw o ihsouj ai alwpekej fwleouj exousin kai ta peteina tou ouranou kataskhnwseij o de uioj tou anqrwpou ouk exei pou thn kefalhn klinh 9:58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
9:59 Ait autem ad alterum: Sequere me: ille autem dixit: Domine, permitte mihi primum ire, et sepelire patrem meum. 9:59 eipen de proj eteron akolouqei moi o de eipen kurie epitreyon moi apelqonti prwton qayai ton patera mou 9:59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
Luke 9:60 Dixitque ei Jesus: Sine ut mortui sepeliant mortuos suos: tu autem vade, et annuntia regnum Dei. Luke 9:60 eipen de autw o ihsouj afej touj nekrouj qayai touj eautwn nekrouj su de apelqwn diaggelle thn basileian tou qeou Luke 9:60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
9:61 Et ait alter: Sequar te Domine, sed permitte mihi primum renuntiare his quæ domi sunt. 9:61 eipen de kai eteroj akolouqhsw soi kurie prwton de epitreyon moi apotacasqai toij eij ton oikon mou 9:61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.
