John 1:1 [In principio erat Verbum, et Verbum erat apud Deum, et Deus erat Verbum. John 1:1 en arxh hn o logoj kai o logoj hn proj ton qeon kai qeoj hn o logoj John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
1:2 Hoc erat in principio apud Deum. 1:2 outoj hn en arxh proj ton qeon 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
1:3 Omnia per ipsum facta sunt: et sine ipso factum est nihil, quod factum est. 1:3 panta di autou egeneto kai xwrij autou egeneto oude en o gegonen 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
1:4 In ipso vita erat, et vita erat lux hominum: 1:4 en autw zwh hn kai h zwh hn to fwj twn anqrwpwn 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
1:5 et lux in tenebris lucet, et tenebræ eam non comprehenderunt. 1:5 kai to fwj en th skotia fainei kai h skotia auto ou katelaben 1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
1:6 Fuit homo missus a Deo, cui nomen erat Joannes. 1:6 egeneto anqrwpoj apestalmenoj para qeou onoma autw iwannhj 1:6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
1:7 Hic venit in testimonium ut testimonium perhiberet de lumine, ut omnes crederent per illum. 1:7 outoj hlqen eij marturian ina marturhsh peri tou fwtoj ina pantej pisteuswsin di autou 1:7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
1:8 Non erat ille lux, sed ut testimonium perhiberet de lumine. 1:8 ouk hn ekeinoj to fwj all ina marturhsh peri tou fwtoj 1:8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
1:9 Erat lux vera, quæ illuminat omnem hominem venientem in hunc mundum. 1:9 hn to fwj to alhqinon o fwtizei panta anqrwpon erxomenon eij ton kosmon 1:9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
John 1:10 In mundo erat, et mundus per ipsum factus est, et mundus eum non cognovit. John 1:10 en tw kosmw hn kai o kosmoj di autou egeneto kai o kosmoj auton ouk egnw John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
1:11 In propria venit, et sui eum non receperunt. 1:11 eij ta idia hlqen kai oi idioi auton ou parelabon 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
1:12 Quotquot autem receperunt eum, dedit eis potestatem filios Dei fieri, his qui credunt in nomine ejus: 1:12 osoi de elabon auton edwken autoij ecousian tekna qeou genesqai toij pisteuousin eij to onoma autou 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
1:13 qui non ex sanguinibus, neque ex voluntate carnis, neque ex voluntate viri, sed ex Deo nati sunt. 1:13 oi ouk ec aimatwn oude ek qelhmatoj sarkoj oude ek qelhmatoj androj all ek qeou egennhqhsan 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
1:14 Et Verbum caro factum est, et habitavit in nobis: et vidimus gloriam ejus, gloriam quasi unigeniti a Patre plenum gratiæ et veritatis. 1:14 kai o logoj sarc egeneto kai eskhnwsen en hmin kai eqeasameqa thn docan autou docan wj monogenouj para patroj plhrhj xaritoj kai alhqeiaj 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
1:15 Joannes testimonium perhibet de ipso, et clamat dicens: Hic erat quem dixi: Qui post me venturus est, ante me factus est: quia prior me erat. 1:15 iwannhj marturei peri autou kai kekragen legwn outoj hn on eipon o opisw mou erxomenoj emprosqen mou gegonen oti prwtoj mou hn 1:15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
1:16 Et de plenitudine ejus nos omnes accepimus, et gratiam pro gratia: 1:16 kai ek tou plhrwmatoj autou hmeij pantej elabomen kai xarin anti xaritoj 1:16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
1:17 quia lex per Moysen data est, gratia et veritas per Jesum Christum facta est. 1:17 oti o nomoj dia mwsewj edoqh h xarij kai h alhqeia dia ihsou xristou egeneto 1:17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
1:18 Deum nemo vidit umquam: unigenitus Filius, qui est in sinu Patris, ipse enarravit.] 1:18 qeon oudeij ewraken pwpote o monogenhj uioj o wn eij ton kolpon tou patroj ekeinoj echghsato 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
1:19 Et hoc est testimonium Joannis, quando miserunt Judæi ab Jerosolymis sacerdotes et Levitas ad eum ut interrogarent eum: Tu quis es? 1:19 kai auth estin h marturia tou iwannou ote apesteilan oi ioudaioi ec ierosolumwn iereij kai leuitaj ina erwthswsin auton su tij ei 1:19 And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?
John 1:20 Et confessus est, et non negavit, et confessus est: Quia non sum ego Christus. John 1:20 kai wmologhsen kai ouk hrnhsato kai wmologhsen oti ouk eimi egw o xristoj John 1:20 And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.
1:21 Et interrogaverunt eum: Quid ergo? Elias es tu? Et dixit: Non sum. Propheta es tu? Et respondit: Non. 1:21 kai hrwthsan auton ti oun hliaj ei su kai legei ouk eimi o profhthj ei su kai apekriqh ou 1:21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.
1:22 Dixerunt ergo ei: Quis es ut responsum demus his qui miserunt nos? quid dicis de teipso? 1:22 eipon oun autw tij ei ina apokrisin dwmen toij pemyasin hmaj ti legeij peri seautou 1:22 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?
1:23 Ait: Ego vox clamantis in deserto: Dirigite viam Domini, sicut dixit Isaias propheta. 1:23 efh egw fwnh bowntoj en th erhmw euqunate thn odon kuriou kaqwj eipen hsaiaj o profhthj 1:23 He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.
1:24 Et qui missi fuerant, erant ex pharisæis. 1:24 kai oi apestalmenoi hsan ek twn farisaiwn 1:24 And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.
1:25 Et interrogaverunt eum, et dixerunt ei: Quid ergo baptizas, si tu non es Christus, neque Elias, neque propheta? 1:25 kai hrwthsan auton kai eipon autw ti oun baptizeij ei su ouk ei o xristoj oute hliaj oute o profhthj 1:25 And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?
1:26 Respondit eis Joannes, dicens: Ego baptizo in aqua: medius autem vestrum stetit, quem vos nescitis. 1:26 apekriqh autoij o iwannhj legwn egw baptizw en udati mesoj de umwn esthken on umeij ouk oidate 1:26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
1:27 Ipse est qui post me venturus est, qui ante me factus est: cujus ego non sum dignus ut solvam ejus corrigiam calceamenti. 1:27 autoj estin o opisw mou erxomenoj oj emprosqen mou gegonen ou egw ouk eimi acioj ina lusw autou ton imanta tou upodhmatoj 1:27 He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.
1:28 Hæc in Bethania facta sunt trans Jordanem, ubi erat Joannes baptizans. 1:28 tauta en bhqabara egeneto peran tou iordanou opou hn iwannhj baptizwn 1:28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
1:29 Altera die vidit Joannes Jesum venientem ad se, et ait: Ecce agnus Dei, ecce qui tollit peccatum mundi. 1:29 th epaurion blepei o iwannhj ton ihsoun erxomenon proj auton kai legei ide o amnoj tou qeou o airwn thn amartian tou kosmou 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
John 1:30 Hic est de quo dixi: Post me venit vir qui ante me factus est: quia prior me erat: John 1:30 outoj estin peri ou egw eipon opisw mou erxetai anhr oj emprosqen mou gegonen oti prwtoj mou hn John 1:30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
1:31 et ego nesciebam eum, sed ut manifestetur in Israël, propterea veni ego in aqua baptizans. 1:31 kagw ouk hdein auton all ina fanerwqh tw israhl dia touto hlqon egw en tw udati baptizwn 1:31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
1:32 Et testimonium perhibuit Joannes, dicens: Quia vidi Spiritum descendentem quasi columbam de cælo, et mansit super eum. 1:32 kai emarturhsen iwannhj legwn oti teqeamai to pneuma katabainon wsei peristeran ec ouranou kai emeinen ep auton 1:32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
1:33 Et ego nesciebam eum: sed qui misit me baptizare in aqua, ille mihi dixit: Super quem videris Spiritum descendentem, et manentem super eum, hic est qui baptizat in Spiritu Sancto. 1:33 kagw ouk hdein auton all o pemyaj me baptizein en udati ekeinoj moi eipen ef on an idhj to pneuma katabainon kai menon ep auton outoj estin o baptizwn en pneumati agiw 1:33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
1:34 Et ego vidi: et testimonium perhibui quia hic est Filius Dei. 1:34 kagw ewraka kai memarturhka oti outoj estin o uioj tou qeou 1:34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
1:35 Altera die iterum stabat Joannes, et ex discipulis ejus duo. 1:35 th epaurion palin eisthkei o iwannhj kai ek twn maqhtwn autou duo 1:35 Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;
1:36 Et respiciens Jesum ambulantem, dicit: Ecce agnus Dei. 1:36 kai embleyaj tw ihsou peripatounti legei ide o amnoj tou qeou 1:36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
1:37 Et audierunt eum duo discipuli loquentem, et secuti sunt Jesum. 1:37 kai hkousan autou oi duo maqhtai lalountoj kai hkolouqhsan tw ihsou 1:37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
1:38 Conversus autem Jesus, et videns eos sequentes se, dicit eis: Quid quæritis? Qui dixerunt ei: Rabbi (quod dicitur interpretatum Magister), ubi habitas? 1:38 strafeij de o ihsouj kai qeasamenoj autouj akolouqountaj legei autoij ti zhteite oi de eipon autw rabbi o legetai ermhneuomenon didaskale pou meneij 1:38 Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?
1:39 Dicit eis: Venite et videte. Venerunt, et viderunt ubi maneret, et apud eum manserunt die illo: hora autem erat quasi decima. 1:39 legei autoij erxesqe kai idete hlqon kai eidon pou menei kai par autw emeinan thn hmeran ekeinhn wra de hn wj dekath 1:39 He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.
John 1:40 Erat autem Andreas, frater Simonis Petri, unus ex duobus qui audierant a Joanne, et secuti fuerant eum. John 1:40 hn andreaj o adelfoj simwnoj petrou eij ek twn duo twn akousantwn para iwannou kai akolouqhsantwn autw John 1:40 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
1:41 Invenit hic primum fratrem suum Simonem, et dicit ei: Invenimus Messiam (quod est interpretatum Christus). 1:41 euriskei outoj prwtoj ton adelfon ton idion simwna kai legei autw eurhkamen ton messian o estin meqermhneuomenon o xristoj 1:41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
1:42 Et adduxit eum ad Jesum. Intuitus autem eum Jesus, dixit: Tu es Simon, filius Jona; tu vocaberis Cephas, quod interpretatur Petrus. 1:42 kai hgagen auton proj ton ihsoun embleyaj de autw o ihsouj eipen su ei simwn o uioj iwna su klhqhsh khfaj o ermhneuetai petroj 1:42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.
1:43 In crastinam voluit exire in Galilæam, et invenit Philippum. Et dicit ei Jesus: Sequere me. 1:43 th epaurion hqelhsen o ihsouj ecelqein eij thn galilaian kai euriskei filippon kai legei autw akolouqei moi 1:43 The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.
1:44 Erat autem Philippus a Bethsaida, civitate Andreæ et Petri. 1:44 hn de o filippoj apo bhqsaida ek thj polewj andreou kai petrou 1:44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
1:45 Invenit Philippus Nathanaël, et dicit ei: Quem scripsit Moyses in lege, et prophetæ, invenimus Jesum filium Joseph a Nazareth. 1:45 euriskei filippoj ton naqanahl kai legei autw on egrayen mwshj en tw nomw kai oi profhtai eurhkamen ihsoun ton uion tou iwshf ton apo nazareq 1:45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
1:46 Et dixit ei Nathanaël: A Nazareth potest aliquid boni esse? Dicit ei Philippus: Veni et vide. 1:46 kai eipen autw naqanahl ek nazareq dunatai ti agaqon einai legei autw filippoj erxou kai ide 1:46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.
1:47 Vidit Jesus Nathanaël venientem ad se, et dicit de eo: Ecce vere Israëlita, in quo dolus non est. 1:47 eiden o ihsouj ton naqanahl erxomenon proj auton kai legei peri autou ide alhqwj israhlithj en w doloj ouk estin 1:47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!
1:48 Dicit ei Nathanaël: Unde me nosti? Respondit Jesus, et dixit ei: Priusquam te Philippus vocavit, cum esses sub ficu, vidi te. 1:48 legei autw naqanahl poqen me ginwskeij apekriqh o ihsouj kai eipen autw pro tou se filippon fwnhsai onta upo thn sukhn eidon se 1:48 Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.
1:49 Respondit ei Nathanaël, et ait: Rabbi, tu es Filius Dei, tu es rex Israël. 1:49 apekriqh naqanahl kai legei autw rabbi su ei o uioj tou qeou su ei o basileuj tou israhl 1:49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.
John 1:50 Respondit Jesus, et dixit ei: Quia dixi tibi: Vidi te sub ficu, credis; majus his videbis. John 1:50 apekriqh ihsouj kai eipen autw oti eipon soi eidon se upokatw thj sukhj pisteueij meizw toutwn oyei John 1:50 Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.
1:51 Et dicit ei: Amen, amen dico vobis, videbitis cælum apertum, et angelos Dei ascendentes, et descendentes supra Filium hominis. 1:51 kai legei autw amhn amhn legw umin ap arti oyesqe ton ouranon anewgota kai touj aggelouj tou qeou anabainontaj kai katabainontaj epi ton uion tou anqrwpou 1:51 And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
