8:2 et diluculo iterum venit in templum, et omnis populus venit ad eum, et sedens docebat eos. 8:2 orqrou de palin paregeneto eij to ieron kai paj o laoj hrxeto proj auton kai kaqisaj edidasken autouj 8:2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
8:3 Adducunt autem scribæ et pharisæi mulierem in adulterio deprehensam: et statuerunt eam in medio, 8:3 agousin de oi grammateij kai oi farisaioi proj auton gunaika en moixeia kateilhmmenhn kai sthsantej authn en mesw 8:3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
8:4 et dixerunt ei: Magister, hæc mulier modo deprehensa est in adulterio. 8:4 legousin autw didaskale auth h gunh kateilhfqh epautofwrw moixeuomenh 8:4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
8:5 In lege autem Moyses mandavit nobis hujusmodi lapidare. Tu ergo quid dicis? 8:5 en de tw nomw mwshj hmin eneteilato taj toiautaj liqoboleisqai su oun ti legeij 8:5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
8:6 Hoc autem dicebant tentantes eum, ut possent accusare eum. Jesus autem inclinans se deorsum, digito scribebat in terra. 8:6 touto de elegon peirazontej auton ina exwsin kathgorein autou o de ihsouj katw kuyaj tw daktulw egrafen eij thn ghn mh prospoioumenoj 8:6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
8:7 Cum ergo perseverarent interrogantes eum, erexit se, et dixit eis: Qui sine peccato est vestrum, primus in illam lapidem mittat. 8:7 wj de epemenon erwtwntej auton anakuyaj eipen proj autouj o anamarthtoj umwn prwtoj ton liqon ep auth baletw 8:7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
8:8 Et iterum se inclinans, scribebat in terra. 8:8 kai palin katw kuyaj egrafen eij thn ghn 8:8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
8:9 Audientes autem unus post unum exibant, incipientes a senioribus: et remansit solus Jesus, et mulier in medio stans. 8:9 oi de akousantej kai upo thj suneidhsewj elegxomenoi echrxonto eij kaq eij arcamenoi apo twn presbuterwn ewj twn esxatwn kai kateleifqh monoj o ihsouj kai h gunh en mesw estwsa 8:9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
John 8:10 Erigens autem se Jesus, dixit ei: Mulier, ubi sunt qui te accusabant? nemo te condemnavit? John 8:10 anakuyaj de o ihsouj kai mhdena qeasamenoj plhn thj gunaikoj eipen auth h gunh pou eisin ekeinoi oi kathgoroi sou oudeij se katekrinen John 8:10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
8:11 Quæ dixit: Nemo, Domine. Dixit autem Jesus: Nec ego te condemnabo: vade, et jam amplius noli peccare. 8:11 h de eipen oudeij kurie eipen de auth o ihsouj oude egw se katakrinw poreuou kai mhketi amartane 8:11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
8:12 Iterum ergo locutus est eis Jesus, dicens: Ego sum lux mundi: qui sequitur me, non ambulat in tenebris, sed habebit lumen vitæ. 8:12 palin oun o ihsouj autoij elalhsen legwn egw eimi to fwj tou kosmou o akolouqwn emoi ou mh peripathsei en th skotia all ecei to fwj thj zwhj 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
8:13 Dixerunt ergo ei pharisæi: Tu de teipso testimonium perhibes; testimonium tuum non est verum. 8:13 eipon oun autw oi farisaioi su peri seautou martureij h marturia sou ouk estin alhqhj 8:13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.
8:14 Respondit Jesus, et dixit eis: Et si ego testimonium perhibeo de meipso, verum est testimonium meum: quia scio unde veni et quo vado; vos autem nescitis unde venio aut quo vado. 8:14 apekriqh ihsouj kai eipen autoij kan egw marturw peri emautou alhqhj estin h marturia mou oti oida poqen hlqon kai pou upagw umeij de ouk oidate poqen erxomai kai pou upagw 8:14 Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.
8:15 Vos secundum carnem judicatis: ego non judico quemquam; 8:15 umeij kata thn sarka krinete egw ou krinw oudena 8:15 Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.
8:16 et si judico ego, judicium meum verum est, quia solus non sum: sed ego et qui misit me, Pater. 8:16 kai ean krinw de egw h krisij h emh alhqhj estin oti monoj ouk eimi all egw kai o pemyaj me pathr 8:16 And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.
8:17 Et in lege vestra scriptum est, quia duorum hominum testimonium verum est. 8:17 kai en tw nomw de tw umeterw gegraptai oti duo anqrwpwn h marturia alhqhj estin 8:17 It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.
8:18 Ego sum qui testimonium perhibeo de meipso, et testimonium perhibet de me qui misit me, Pater. 8:18 egw eimi o marturwn peri emautou kai marturei peri emou o pemyaj me pathr 8:18 I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.
8:19 Dicebant ergo ei: Ubi est Pater tuus? Respondit Jesus: Neque me scitis, neque Patrem meum: si me sciretis, forsitan et Patrem meum sciretis. 8:19 elegon oun autw pou estin o pathr sou apekriqh o ihsouj oute eme oidate oute ton patera mou ei eme hdeite kai ton patera mou hdeite an 8:19 Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.
John 8:20 Hæc verba locutus est Jesus in gazophylacio, docens in templo: et nemo apprehendit eum, quia necdum venerat hora ejus. 8:21 Dixit ergo iterum eis Jesus: Ego vado, et quæretis me, et in peccato vestro moriemini. 8:22 Dicebant ergo Judæi: Numquid interficiet semetipsum, quia dixit: Quo ego vado, vos non potestis venire? 8:22 elegon oun oi ioudaioi mhti apoktenei eauton oti legei opou egw upagw umeij ou dunasqe elqein 8:22 Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.
8:23 Et dicebat eis: Vos de deorsum estis, ego de supernis sum. Vos de mundo hoc estis, ego non sum de hoc mundo. 8:23 kai eipen autoij umeij ek twn katw este egw ek twn anw eimi umeij ek tou kosmou toutou este egw ouk eimi ek tou kosmou toutou 8:23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
8:24 Dixi ergo vobis quia moriemini in peccatis vestris: si enim non credideritis quia ego sum, moriemini in peccato vestro. 8:24 eipon oun umin oti apoqaneisqe en taij amartiaij umwn ean gar mh pisteushte oti egw eimi apoqaneisqe en taij amartiaij umwn 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
8:25 Dicebant ergo ei: Tu quis es? Dixit eis Jesus: Principium, qui et loquor vobis. 8:25 elegon oun autw su tij ei kai eipen autoij o ihsouj thn arxhn o ti kai lalw umin 8:25 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.
8:26 Multa habeo de vobis loqui, et judicare; sed qui me misit, verax est; et ego quæ audivi ab eo, hæc loquor in mundo. 8:26 polla exw peri umwn lalein kai krinein all o pemyaj me alhqhj estin kagw a hkousa par autou tauta legw eij ton kosmon 8:26 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.
8:27 Et non cognoverunt quia Patrem ejus dicebat Deum. 8:27 ouk egnwsan oti ton patera autoij elegen 8:27 They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.
8:28 Dixit ergo eis Jesus: Cum exaltaveritis Filium hominis, tunc cognoscetis quia ego sum, et a meipso facio nihil, sed sicut docuit me Pater, hæc loquor: 8:28 eipen oun autoij o ihsouj otan uywshte ton uion tou anqrwpou tote gnwsesqe oti egw eimi kai ap emautou poiw ouden alla kaqwj edidacen me o pathr mou tauta lalw 8:28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
8:29 et qui me misit, mecum est, et non reliquit me solum: quia ego quæ placita sunt ei, facio semper. 8:29 kai o pemyaj me met emou estin ouk afhken me monon o pathr oti egw ta aresta autw poiw pantote 8:29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
John 8:30 Hæc illo loquente, multi crediderunt in eum. John 8:30 tauta autou lalountoj polloi episteusan eij auton John 8:30 As he spake these words, many believed on him.
8:31 Dicebat ergo Jesus ad eos, qui crediderunt ei, Judæos: Si vos manseritis in sermone meo, vere discipuli mei eritis, 8:31 elegen oun o ihsouj proj touj pepisteukotaj autw ioudaiouj ean umeij meinhte en tw logw tw emw alhqwj maqhtai mou este 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
8:32 et cognoscetis veritatem, et veritas liberabit vos. 8:32 kai gnwsesqe thn alhqeian kai h alhqeia eleuqerwsei umaj 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
8:33 Responderunt ei: Semen Abrahæ sumus, et nemini servivimus umquam: quomodo tu dicis: Liberi eritis? 8:33 apekriqhsan autw sperma abraam esmen kai oudeni dedouleukamen pwpote pwj su legeij oti eleuqeroi genhsesqe 8:33 They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
8:34 Respondit eis Jesus: Amen, amen dico vobis: quia omnis qui facit peccatum, servus est peccati. 8:34 apekriqh autoij o ihsouj amhn amhn legw umin oti paj o poiwn thn amartian douloj estin thj amartiaj 8:34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
8:35 Servus autem non manet in domo in æternum: filius autem manet in æternum. 8:35 o de douloj ou menei en th oikia eij ton aiwna o uioj menei eij ton aiwna 8:35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
8:36 Si ergo vos filius liberaverit, vere liberi eritis. 8:36 ean oun o uioj umaj eleuqerwsh ontwj eleuqeroi esesqe 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
8:37 Scio quia filii Abrahæ estis: sed quæritis me interficere, quia sermo meus non capit in vobis. 8:37 oida oti sperma abraam este alla zhteite me apokteinai oti o logoj o emoj ou xwrei en umin 8:37 I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
8:38 Ego quod vidi apud Patrem meum, loquor: et vos quæ vidistis apud patrem vestrum, facitis. 8:38 egw o ewraka para tw patri mou lalw kai umeij oun o ewrakate para tw patri umwn poieite 8:38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.
8:39 Responderunt, et dixerunt ei: Pater noster Abraham est. Dicit eis Jesus: Si filii Abrahæ estis, opera Abrahæ facite. 8:39 apekriqhsan kai eipon autw o pathr hmwn abraam estin legei autoij o ihsouj ei tekna tou abraam hte ta erga tou abraam epoieite an 8:39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
John 8:40 Nunc autem quæritis me interficere, hominem, qui veritatem vobis locutus sum, quam audivi a Deo: hoc Abraham non fecit. John 8:40 nun de zhteite me apokteinai anqrwpon oj thn alhqeian umin lelalhka hn hkousa para tou qeou touto abraam ouk epoihsen John 8:40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
8:41 Vos facitis opera patris vestri. Dixerunt itaque ei: Nos ex fornicatione non sumus nati: unum patrem habemus Deum. 8:41 umeij poieite ta erga tou patroj umwn eipon oun autw hmeij ek porneiaj ou gegennhmeqa ena patera exomen ton qeon 8:41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
8:42 Dixit ergo eis Jesus: Si Deus pater vester esset, diligeretis utique et me; ego enim ex Deo processi, et veni: neque enim a meipso veni, sed ille me misit. 8:42 eipen autoij o ihsouj ei o qeoj pathr umwn hn hgapate an eme egw gar ek tou qeou echlqon kai hkw oude gar ap emautou elhluqa all ekeinoj me apesteilen 8:42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
8:43 Quare loquelam meam non cognoscitis? Quia non potestis audire sermonem meum. 8:43 dia ti thn lalian thn emhn ou ginwskete oti ou dunasqe akouein ton logon ton emon 8:43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
8:44 Vos ex patre diabolo estis: et desideria patris vestri vultis facere. Ille homicida erat ab initio, et in veritate non stetit: quia non est veritas in eo: cum loquitur mendacium, ex propriis loquitur, quia mendax est, et pater ejus. 8:44 umeij ek patroj tou diabolou este kai taj epiqumiaj tou patroj umwn qelete poiein ekeinoj anqrwpoktonoj hn ap arxhj kai en th alhqeia oux esthken oti ouk estin alhqeia en autw otan lalh to yeudoj ek twn idiwn lalei oti yeusthj estin kai o pathr autou 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
8:45 Ego autem si veritatem dico, non creditis mihi. 8:45 egw de oti thn alhqeian legw ou pisteuete moi 8:45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
8:46 Quis ex vobis arguet me de peccato? si veritatem dico vobis, quare non creditis mihi? 8:46 tij ec umwn elegxei me peri amartiaj ei de alhqeian legw dia ti umeij ou pisteuete moi 8:46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?
8:47 Qui ex Deo est, verba Dei audit. Propterea vos non auditis, quia ex Deo non estis. 8:47 o wn ek tou qeou ta rhmata tou qeou akouei dia touto umeij ouk akouete oti ek tou qeou ouk este 8:47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
8:48 Responderunt ergo Judæi, et dixerunt ei: Nonne bene dicimus nos quia Samaritanus es tu, et dæmonium habes? 8:48 apekriqhsan oun oi ioudaioi kai eipon autw ou kalwj legomen hmeij oti samareithj ei su kai daimonion exeij 8:48 Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?
8:49 Respondit Jesus: Ego dæmonium non habeo: sed honorifico Patrem meum, et vos inhonorastis me. 8:49 apekriqh ihsouj egw daimonion ouk exw alla timw ton patera mou kai umeij atimazete me 8:49 Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.
John 8:50 Ego autem non quæro gloriam meam: est qui quærat, et judicet. John 8:50 egw de ou zhtw thn docan mou estin o zhtwn kai krinwn John 8:50 And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.
8:51 Amen, amen dico vobis: si quis sermonem meum servaverit, mortem non videbit in æternum. 8:51 amhn amhn legw umin ean tij ton logon ton emon thrhsh qanaton ou mh qewrhsh eij ton aiwna 8:51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.
8:52 Dixerunt ergo Judæi: Nunc cognovimus quia dæmonium habes. Abraham mortuus est, et prophetæ; et tu dicis: Si quis sermonem meum servaverit, non gustabit mortem in æternum. 8:52 eipon oun autw oi ioudaioi nun egnwkamen oti daimonion exeij abraam apeqanen kai oi profhtai kai su legeij ean tij ton logon mou thrhsh ou mh geusetai qanatou eij ton aiwna 8:52 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.
8:53 Numquid tu major es patre nostro Abraham, qui mortuus est? et prophetæ mortui sunt. Quem teipsum facis? 8:53 mh su meizwn ei tou patroj hmwn abraam ostij apeqanen kai oi profhtai apeqanon tina seauton su poieij 8:53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?
8:54 Respondit Jesus: Si ego glorifico meipsum, gloria mea nihil est: est Pater meus, qui glorificat me, quem vos dicitis quia Deus vester est, 8:54 apekriqh ihsouj ean egw docazw emauton h doca mou ouden estin estin o pathr mou o docazwn me on umeij legete oti qeoj umwn estin 8:54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:
8:55 et non cognovistis eum: ego autem novi eum. Et si dixero quia non scio eum, ero similis vobis, mendax. Sed scio eum, et sermonem ejus servo. 8:55 kai ouk egnwkate auton egw de oida auton kai ean eipw oti ouk oida auton esomai omoioj umwn yeusthj all oida auton kai ton logon autou thrw 8:55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.
8:56 Abraham pater vester exsultavit ut videret diem meum: vidit, et gavisus est. 8:56 abraam o pathr umwn hgalliasato ina idh thn hmeran thn emhn kai eiden kai exarh 8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
8:57 Dixerunt ergo Judæi ad eum: Quinquaginta annos nondum habes, et Abraham vidisti? 8:57 eipon oun oi ioudaioi proj auton penthkonta eth oupw exeij kai abraam ewrakaj 8:57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
8:58 Dixit eis Jesus: Amen, amen dico vobis, antequam Abraham fieret, ego sum. 8:58 eipen autoij o ihsouj amhn amhn legw umin prin abraam genesqai egw eimi 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
8:59 Tulerunt ergo lapides, ut jacerent in eum: Jesus autem abscondit se, et exivit de templo. 8:59 hran oun liqouj ina balwsin ep auton ihsouj de ekrubh kai echlqen ek tou ierou dielqwn dia mesou autwn kai parhgen outwj 8:59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
