JOHN CHAPTER 7

Latin VulgateGreek Textus ReceptusEnglish King James
John 7:1 καὶ περιεπάτει ὁ ἰησοῦς μετὰ ταῦτα ἐν τῇ γαλιλαίᾳ οὐ γὰρ ἤθελεν ἐν τῇ ἰουδαίᾳ περιπατεῖν ὅτι ἐζήτουν αὐτὸν οἱ ἰουδαῖοι ἀποκτεῖναι John 7:1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.
7:2 Erat autem in proximo dies festus Judæorum, Scenopegia. 7:2 ἦν δὲ ἐγγὺς ἡ ἑορτὴ τῶν ἰουδαίων ἡ σκηνοπηγία 7:2 Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand.
7:3 εἶπον οὖν πρὸς αὐτὸν οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ μετάβηθι ἐντεῦθεν καὶ ὕπαγε εἰς τὴν ἰουδαίαν ἵνα καὶ οἱ μαθηταί σου θεωρήσωσιν τὰ ἔργα σοῦ ἃ ποιεῖς 7:3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.
7:4 οὐδεὶς γάρ ἐν κρυπτῷ τι ποιεῖ καὶ ζητεῖ αὐτὸς ἐν παῤῥησίᾳ εἶναι εἰ ταῦτα ποιεῖς φανέρωσον σεαυτὸν τῷ κόσμῳ 7:4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.
7:5 Neque enim fratres ejus credebant in eum. 7:5 οὐδὲ γὰρ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ ἐπίστευον εἰς αὐτόν 7:5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.
7:6 Dicit ergo eis Jesus: Tempus meum nondum advenit: tempus autem vestrum semper est paratum. 7:6 λέγει οὖν αὐτοῖς ὁ ἰησοῦς ὁ καιρὸς ὁ ἐμὸς οὔπω πάρεστιν ὁ δὲ καιρὸς ὁ ὑμέτερος πάντοτέ ἐστιν ἕτοιμος 7:6 Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.
7:7 οὐ δύναται ὁ κόσμος μισεῖν ὑμᾶς ἐμὲ δὲ μισεῖ ὅτι ἐγὼ μαρτυρῶ περὶ αὐτοῦ ὅτι τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ πονηρά ἐστιν 7:7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.
7:8 ὑμεῖς ἀνάβητε εἰς τὴν ἑορτήν ταύτην ἐγὼ οὔπω ἀναβαίνω εἰς τὴν ἑορτὴν ταύτην ὅτι ὁ καιρὸς ὁ ἐμὸς οὔπω πεπλήρωται 7:8 Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.
7:9 Hæc cum dixisset, ipse mansit in Galilæa. 7:9 ταῦτα δὲ εἰπὼν αὐτοῖς ἔμεινεν ἐν τῇ γαλιλαίᾳ 7:9 When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee.
John 7:10 ὡς δὲ ἀνέβησαν οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ τότε καὶ αὐτὸς ἀνέβη εἰς τὴν ἑορτήν οὐ φανερῶς ἀλλ᾽ ὡς ἐν κρυπτῷ John 7:10 But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.
7:11 Judæi ergo quærebant eum in die festo, et dicebant: Ubi est ille? 7:11 οἱ οὖν ἰουδαῖοι ἐζήτουν αὐτὸν ἐν τῇ ἑορτῇ καὶ ἔλεγον ποῦ ἐστιν ἐκεῖνος 7:11 Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?
7:12 Et murmur multum erat in turba de eo. Quidam enim dicebant: Quia bonus est. Alii autem dicebant: Non, sed seducit turbas. 7:12 καὶ γογγυσμὸς πολὺς περὶ αὐτοῦ ἦν ἐν τοῖς ὄχλοις οἱ μὲν ἔλεγον ὅτι ἀγαθός ἐστιν ἄλλοι δὲ ἔλεγον οὔ ἀλλὰ πλανᾷ τὸν ὄχλον 7:12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.
7:13 Nemo tamen palam loquebatur de illo propter metum Judæorum. 7:13 οὐδεὶς μέντοι παῤῥησίᾳ ἐλάλει περὶ αὐτοῦ διὰ τὸν φόβον τῶν ἰουδαίων 7:13 Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.
7:14 ἤδη δὲ τῆς ἑορτῆς μεσούσης ἀνέβη ὁ ἰησοῦς εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν καὶ ἐδίδασκεν 7:14 Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.
7:15 καὶ ἐθαύμαζον οἱ ἰουδαῖοι λέγοντες πῶς οὗτος γράμματα οἶδεν μὴ μεμαθηκώς 7:15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?
7:16 Respondit eis Jesus, et dixit: Mea doctrina non est mea, sed ejus qui misit me. 7:16 ἀπεκρίθη αὐτοῖς ὁ ἰησοῦς καὶ εἶπεν ἡ ἐμὴ διδαχὴ οὐκ ἔστιν ἐμὴ ἀλλὰ τοῦ πέμψαντός με 7:16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
7:17 Si quis voluerit voluntatem ejus facere, cognoscet de doctrina, utrum ex Deo sit, an ego a meipso loquar. 7:17 ἐάν τις θέλῃ τὸ θέλημα αὐτοῦ ποιεῖν γνώσεται περὶ τῆς διδαχῆς πότερον ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐστιν ἢ ἐγὼ ἀπ᾽ ἐμαυτοῦ λαλῶ 7:17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
7:18 ὁ ἀφ᾽ ἑαυτοῦ λαλῶν τὴν δόξαν τὴν ἰδίαν ζητεῖ ὁ δὲ ζητῶν τὴν δόξαν τοῦ πέμψαντος αὐτόν οὗτος ἀληθής ἐστιν καὶ ἀδικία ἐν αὐτῷ οὐκ ἔστιν 7:18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
7:19 οὐ μωσῆς δέδωκεν ὑμῖν τὸν νόμον καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐξ ὑμῶν ποιεῖ τὸν νόμον τί με ζητεῖτε ἀποκτεῖναι 7:19 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?
John 7:20 Quid me quæritis interficere? Respondit turba, et dixit: Dæmonium habes: quis te quæret interficere? John 7:20 ἀπεκρίθη ὁ ὄχλος καὶ εἶπεν δαιμόνιον ἔχεις τίς σε ζητεῖ ἀποκτεῖναι John 7:20 The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?
7:21 Respondit Jesus et dixit eis: Unum opus feci, et omnes miramini: 7:21 ἀπεκρίθη ὁ ἰησοῦς καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ἓν ἔργον ἐποίησα καὶ πάντες θαυμάζετε 7:21 Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.
7:22 διὰ τοῦτο μωσῆς δέδωκεν ὑμῖν τὴν περιτομήν οὐχ ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ μωσέως ἐστὶν ἀλλ᾽ ἐκ τῶν πατέρων καὶ ἐν σαββάτῳ περιτέμνετε ἄνθρωπον 7:22 Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man.
7:23 εἰ περιτομὴν λαμβάνει ἄνθρωπος ἐν σαββάτῳ ἵνα μὴ λυθῇ ὁ νόμος μωσέως, ἐμοὶ χολᾶτε ὅτι ὅλον ἄνθρωπον ὑγιῆ ἐποίησα ἐν σαββάτῳ 7:23 If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?
7:24 Nolite judicare secundum faciem, sed justum judicium judicate. 7:24 μὴ κρίνετε κατ᾽ ὄψιν ἀλλὰ τὴν δικαίαν κρίσιν κρίνατε 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
7:25 ἔλεγον οὖν τινες ἐκ τῶν ἱεροσολυμιτῶν οὐχ οὗτός ἐστιν ὃν ζητοῦσιν ἀποκτεῖναι 7:25 Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?
Numquid vere cognoverunt principes quia hic est Christus? 7:26 καὶ ἴδε παῤῥησίᾳ λαλεῖ καὶ οὐδὲν αὐτῷ λέγουσιν μήποτε ἀληθῶς ἔγνωσαν οἱ ἄρχοντες ὅτι οὗτός ἐστιν ἀληθῶς ὁ χριστός 7:26 But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?
7:27 ἀλλὰ τοῦτον οἴδαμεν πόθεν ἐστίν ὁ δὲ χριστὸς ὅταν ἔρχηται οὐδεὶς γινώσκει πόθεν ἐστίν 7:27 Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.
7:28 Clamabat ergo Jesus in templo docens, et dicens: Et me scitis, et unde sim scitis: et a meipso non veni, sed est verus qui misit me, quem vos nescitis. 7:28 ἔκραξεν οὖν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ διδάσκων ὁ ἰησοῦς καὶ λέγων, κἀμὲ οἴδατε καὶ οἴδατε πόθεν εἰμί καὶ ἀπ᾽ ἐμαυτοῦ οὐκ ἐλήλυθα ἀλλ᾽ ἔστιν ἀληθινὸς ὁ πέμψας με ὃν ὑμεῖς οὐκ οἴδατε 7:28 Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.
7:29 Ego scio eum: quia ab ipso sum, et ipse me misit. 7:29 ἐγὼ δὲ οἶδα αὐτόν ὅτι παρ᾽ αὐτοῦ εἰμι κἀκεῖνός με ἀπέστειλεν 7:29 But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.
John 7:30 Quærebant ergo eum apprehendere: et nemo misit in illum manus, quia nondum venit hora ejus. John 7:30 ἐζήτουν οὖν αὐτὸν πιάσαι καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐπέβαλεν ἐπ᾽ αὐτὸν τὴν χεῖρα ὅτι οὔπω ἐληλύθει ἡ ὥρα αὐτοῦ John 7:30 Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.
7:31 πολλοὶ δὲ ἐκ τοῦ ὄχλου ἐπίστευσαν εἰς αὐτόν καὶ ἔλεγον ὅτι ὁ χριστὸς ὅταν ἔλθῃ μήτι πλείονα σημεῖα τούτων ποιήσει ὧν οὗτος ἐποίησεν 7:31 And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?
7:32 ἤκουσαν οἱ φαρισαῖοι τοῦ ὄχλου γογγύζοντος περὶ αὐτοῦ ταῦτα καὶ ἀπέστειλαν οἱ φαρισαῖοι καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς ὑπηρέτας ἵνα πιάσωσιν αὐτόν 7:32 The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.
7:33 εἶπεν οὖν αὐτοῖς ὁ ἰησοῦς ἔτι μικρὸν χρόνον μεθ᾽ ὑμῶν εἰμι καὶ ὑπάγω πρὸς τὸν πέμψαντά με 7:33 Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.
7:34 ζητήσετέ με καὶ οὐχ εὑρήσετέ καὶ ὅπου εἰμὶ ἐγὼ ὑμεῖς οὐ δύνασθε ἐλθεῖν 7:34 Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come.
7:35 εἶπον οὖν οἱ ἰουδαῖοι πρὸς ἑαυτούς ποῦ οὗτος μέλλει πορεύεσθαι ὅτι ἡμεῖς οὐχ εὑρήσομεν αὐτόν μὴ εἰς τὴν διασπορὰν τῶν ἑλλήνων μέλλει πορεύεσθαι καὶ διδάσκειν τοὺς ἕλληνας 7:35 Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
7:36 τίς ἐστιν οὗτος ὁ λόγος ὃν εἶπεν Ζητήσετέ με καὶ οὐχ εὑρήσετέ καὶ ὅπου εἰμὶ ἐγὼ ὑμεῖς οὐ δύνασθε ἐλθεῖν 7:36 What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?
7:37 ἐν δὲ τῇ ἐσχάτῃ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ μεγάλῃ τῆς ἑορτῆς εἱστήκει ὁ ἰησοῦς καὶ ἔκραξεν λέγων, ἐάν τις διψᾷ ἐρχέσθω πρός με καὶ πινέτω 7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
7:38 Qui credit in me, sicut dicit Scriptura, flumina de ventre ejus fluent aquæ vivæ. 7:38 ὁ πιστεύων εἰς ἐμέ καθὼς εἶπεν ἡ γραφή ποταμοὶ ἐκ τῆς κοιλίας αὐτοῦ ῥεύσουσιν ὕδατος ζῶντος 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
7:39 τοῦτο δὲ εἶπεν περὶ τοῦ πνεύματος οὗ ἔμελλον λαμβάνειν οἱ πιστεύοντες εἰς αὐτόν οὔπω γὰρ ἦν πνεῦμα ἅγιον, ὅτι ὃ ἰησοῦς οὐδέπω ἐδοξάσθη 7:39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
John 7:40 Ex illa ergo turba cum audissent hos sermones ejus, dicebant: Hic est vere propheta. John 7:40 πολλοὶ οὖν ἐκ τοῦ ὄχλου ἀκούσαντες τὸν λόγον, ἔλεγον οὗτός ἐστιν ἀληθῶς ὁ προφήτης John 7:40 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.
7:41 Alii dicebant: Hic est Christus. Quidam autem dicebant: Numquid a Galilæa venit Christus? 7:41 ἄλλοι ἔλεγον οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ χριστός ἄλλοι δὲ ἔλεγον μὴ γὰρ ἐκ τῆς γαλιλαίας ὁ χριστὸς ἔρχεται 7:41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?
7:42 οὐχὶ ἡ γραφὴ εἶπεν ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ σπέρματος δαβίδ, καὶ ἀπὸ βηθλέεμ τῆς κώμης ὅπου ἦν δαβίδ, ὁ χριστὸς ἔρχεται 7:42 Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
7:43 Dissensio itaque facta est in turba propter eum. 7:43 σχίσμα οὖν ἐν τῷ ὄχλῳ ἐγένετο δι᾽ αὐτόν 7:43 So there was a division among the people because of him.
7:44 τινὲς δὲ ἤθελον ἐξ αὐτῶν πιάσαι αὐτόν ἀλλ᾽ οὐδεὶς ἐπέβαλεν ἐπ᾽ αὐτὸν τὰς χεῖρας 7:44 And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.
7:45 ἦλθον οὖν οἱ ὑπηρέται πρὸς τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ φαρισαίους καὶ εἶπον αὐτοῖς ἐκεῖνοι διατί οὐκ ἠγάγετε αὐτόν 7:45 Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?
7:46 Responderunt ministri: Numquam sic locutus est homo, sicut hic homo. 7:46 ἀπεκρίθησαν οἱ ὑπηρέται οὐδέποτε οὕτως ἐλάλησεν ἄνθρωπος ὡς οὗτος ὁ ἄνθρωπος, 7:46 The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.
7:47 Responderunt ergo eis pharisæi: Numquid et vos seducti estis? 7:47 ἀπεκρίθησαν οὖν αὐτοῖς οἱ φαρισαῖοι μὴ καὶ ὑμεῖς πεπλάνησθε 7:47 Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived?
7:48 μή τις ἐκ τῶν ἀρχόντων ἐπίστευσεν εἰς αὐτὸν ἢ ἐκ τῶν φαρισαίων 7:48 Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?
7:49 ἀλλ᾽ ὁ ὄχλος οὗτος ὁ μὴ γινώσκων τὸν νόμον ἐπικατάρατοι εἰσιν 7:49 But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.
John 7:50 Dixit Nicodemus ad eos, ille qui venit ad eum nocte, qui unus erat ex ipsis: John 7:50 λέγει νικόδημος πρὸς αὐτούς ὁ ἐλθὼν νυκτὸς πρὸς αὐτὸν εἷς ὢν ἐξ αὐτῶν John 7:50 Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)
7:51 Numquid lex nostra judicat hominem, nisi prius audierit ab ipso, et cognoverit quid faciat? 7:51 μὴ ὁ νόμος ἡμῶν κρίνει τὸν ἄνθρωπον ἐὰν μὴ ἀκούσῃ παρ᾽ αὐτοῦ πρότερον, καὶ γνῷ τί ποιεῖ 7:51 Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?
7:52 ἀπεκρίθησαν καὶ εἶπον αὐτῷ μὴ καὶ σὺ ἐκ τῆς γαλιλαίας εἶ ἐρεύνησον καὶ ἴδε ὅτι προφήτης ἐκ τῆς γαλιλαίας οὐκ ἐγηγέρται 7:52 They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.
7:53 Et reversi sunt unusquisque in domum suam. 7:53 καὶ ἐπορεύθη ἕκαστος εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ 7:53 And every man went unto his own house.
