John 7:1 Post hæc autem ambulabat Jesus in Galilæam: non enim volebat in Judæam ambulare, quia quærebant eum Judæi interficere. John 7:1 kai periepatei o ihsouj meta tauta en th galilaia ou gar hqelen en th ioudaia peripatein oti ezhtoun auton oi ioudaioi apokteinai John 7:1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.
7:2 Erat autem in proximo dies festus Judæorum, Scenopegia. 7:2 hn de egguj h eorth twn ioudaiwn h skhnophgia 7:2 Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand.
7:3 Dixerunt autem ad eum fratres ejus: Transi hinc, et vade in Judæam, ut et discipuli tui videant opera tua, quæ facis. 7:3 eipon oun proj auton oi adelfoi autou metabhqi enteuqen kai upage eij thn ioudaian ina kai oi maqhtai sou qewrhswsin ta erga sou a poieij 7:3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.
7:4 Nemo quippe in occulto quid facit, et quærit ipse in palam esse: si hæc facis, manifesta teipsum mundo. 7:4 oudeij gar en kruptw ti poiei kai zhtei autoj en parrhsia einai ei tauta poieij fanerwson seauton tw kosmw 7:4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.
7:5 Neque enim fratres ejus credebant in eum. 7:5 oude gar oi adelfoi autou episteuon eij auton 7:5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.
7:6 Dicit ergo eis Jesus: Tempus meum nondum advenit: tempus autem vestrum semper est paratum. 7:6 legei oun autoij o ihsouj o kairoj o emoj oupw parestin o de kairoj o umeteroj pantote estin etoimoj 7:6 Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.
7:7 Non potest mundus odisse vos: me autem odit, quia ego testimonium perhibeo de illo quod opera ejus mala sunt. 7:7 ou dunatai o kosmoj misein umaj eme de misei oti egw marturw peri autou oti ta erga autou ponhra estin 7:7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.
7:8 Vos ascendite ad diem festum hunc, ego autem non ascendo ad diem festum istum: quia meum tempus nondum impletum est. 7:8 umeij anabhte eij thn eorthn tauthn egw oupw anabainw eij thn eorthn tauthn oti o kairoj o emoj oupw peplhrwtai 7:8 Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.
7:9 Hæc cum dixisset, ipse mansit in Galilæa. 7:9 tauta de eipwn autoij emeinen en th galilaia 7:9 When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee.
John 7:10 Ut autem ascenderunt fratres ejus, tunc et ipse ascendit ad diem festum non manifeste, sed quasi in occulto. John 7:10 wj de anebhsan oi adelfoi autou tote kai autoj anebh eij thn eorthn ou fanerwj all wj en kruptw John 7:10 But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.
7:11 Judæi ergo quærebant eum in die festo, et dicebant: Ubi est ille? 7:11 oi oun ioudaioi ezhtoun auton en th eorth kai elegon pou estin ekeinoj 7:11 Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?
7:12 Et murmur multum erat in turba de eo. Quidam enim dicebant: Quia bonus est. Alii autem dicebant: Non, sed seducit turbas. 7:12 kai goggusmoj poluj peri autou hn en toij oxloij oi men elegon oti agaqoj estin alloi de elegon ou alla plana ton oxlon 7:12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.
7:13 Nemo tamen palam loquebatur de illo propter metum Judæorum. 7:13 oudeij mentoi parrhsia elalei peri autou dia ton fobon twn ioudaiwn 7:13 Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.
7:14 Jam autem die festo mediante, ascendit Jesus in templum, et docebat. 7:14 hdh de thj eorthj mesoushj anebh o ihsouj eij to ieron kai edidasken 7:14 Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.
7:15 Et mirabantur Judæi, dicentes: Quomodo hic litteras scit, cum non didicerit? 7:15 kai eqaumazon oi ioudaioi legontej pwj outoj grammata oiden mh memaqhkwj 7:15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?
7:16 Respondit eis Jesus, et dixit: Mea doctrina non est mea, sed ejus qui misit me. 7:16 apekriqh autoij o ihsouj kai eipen h emh didaxh ouk estin emh alla tou pemyantoj me 7:16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
7:17 Si quis voluerit voluntatem ejus facere, cognoscet de doctrina, utrum ex Deo sit, an ego a meipso loquar. 7:17 ean tij qelh to qelhma autou poiein gnwsetai peri thj didaxhj poteron ek tou qeou estin h egw ap emautou lalw 7:17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
7:18 Qui a semetipso loquitur, gloriam propriam quærit; qui autem quærit gloriam ejus qui misit eum, hic verax est, et injustitia in illo non est. 7:18 o af eautou lalwn thn docan thn idian zhtei o de zhtwn thn docan tou pemyantoj auton outoj alhqhj estin kai adikia en autw ouk estin 7:18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
7:19 Nonne Moyses dedit vobis legem: et nemo ex vobis facit legem? 7:19 ou mwshj dedwken umin ton nomon kai oudeij ec umwn poiei ton nomon ti me zhteite apokteinai 7:19 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?
John 7:20 Quid me quæritis interficere? Respondit turba, et dixit: Dæmonium habes: quis te quæret interficere? John 7:20 apekriqh o oxloj kai eipen daimonion exeij tij se zhtei apokteinai John 7:20 The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?
7:21 Respondit Jesus et dixit eis: Unum opus feci, et omnes miramini: 7:21 apekriqh o ihsouj kai eipen autoij en ergon epoihsa kai pantej qaumazete 7:21 Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.
7:22 propterea Moyses dedit vobis circumcisionem (non quia ex Moyse est, sed ex patribus), et in sabbato circumciditis hominem. 7:22 dia touto mwshj dedwken umin thn peritomhn oux oti ek tou mwsewj estin all ek twn paterwn kai en sabbatw peritemnete anqrwpon 7:22 Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man.
7:23 Si circumcisionem accipit homo in sabbato, ut non solvatur lex Moysi: mihi indignamini quia totum hominem sanum feci in sabbato? 7:23 ei peritomhn lambanei anqrwpoj en sabbatw ina mh luqh o nomoj mwsewj emoi xolate oti olon anqrwpon ugih epoihsa en sabbatw 7:23 If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?
7:24 Nolite judicare secundum faciem, sed justum judicium judicate. 7:24 mh krinete kat oyin alla thn dikaian krisin krinate 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
7:25 Dicebant ergo quidam ex Jerosolymis: Nonne hic est, quem quærunt interficere? 7:25 elegon oun tinej ek twn ierosolumitwn oux outoj estin on zhtousin apokteinai 7:25 Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?
7:26 et ecce palam loquitur, et nihil ei dicunt. Numquid vere cognoverunt principes quia hic est Christus? 7:26 kai ide parrhsia lalei kai ouden autw legousin mhpote alhqwj egnwsan oi arxontej oti outoj estin alhqwj o xristoj 7:26 But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?
7:27 Sed hunc scimus unde sit: Christus autem cum venerit, nemo scit unde sit. 7:27 alla touton oidamen poqen estin o de xristoj otan erxhtai oudeij ginwskei poqen estin 7:27 Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.
7:28 Clamabat ergo Jesus in templo docens, et dicens: Et me scitis, et unde sim scitis: et a meipso non veni, sed est verus qui misit me, quem vos nescitis. 7:28 ekracen oun en tw ierw didaskwn o ihsouj kai legwn kame oidate kai oidate poqen eimi kai ap emautou ouk elhluqa all estin alhqinoj o pemyaj me on umeij ouk oidate 7:28 Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.
7:29 Ego scio eum: quia ab ipso sum, et ipse me misit. 7:29 egw de oida auton oti par autou eimi kakeinoj me apesteilen 7:29 But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.
John 7:30 Quærebant ergo eum apprehendere: et nemo misit in illum manus, quia nondum venit hora ejus. John 7:30 ezhtoun oun auton piasai kai oudeij epebalen ep auton thn xeira oti oupw elhluqei h wra autou John 7:30 Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.
7:31 De turba autem multi crediderunt in eum, et dicebant: Christus cum venerit, numquid plura signa faciet quam quæ hic facit? 7:31 polloi de ek tou oxlou episteusan eij auton kai elegon oti o xristoj otan elqh mhti pleiona shmeia toutwn poihsei wn outoj epoihsen 7:31 And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?
7:32 Audierunt pharisæi turbam murmurantem de illo hæc: et miserunt principes et pharisæi ministros ut apprehenderent eum. 7:32 hkousan oi farisaioi tou oxlou gogguzontoj peri autou tauta kai apesteilan oi farisaioi kai oi arxiereij uphretaj ina piaswsin auton 7:32 The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.
7:33 Dixit ergo eis Jesus: Adhuc modicum tempus vobiscum sum: et vado ad eum qui me misit. 7:33 eipen oun autoij o ihsouj eti mikron xronon meq umwn eimi kai upagw proj ton pemyanta me 7:33 Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.
7:34 Quæretis me, et non invenietis: et ubi ego sum, vos non potestis venire. 7:34 zhthsete me kai oux eurhsete kai opou eimi egw umeij ou dunasqe elqein 7:34 Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come.
7:35 Dixerunt ergo Judæi ad semetipsos: Quo hic iturus est, quia non inveniemus eum? numquid in dispersionem gentium iturus est, et docturus gentes? 7:35 eipon oun oi ioudaioi proj eautouj pou outoj mellei poreuesqai oti hmeij oux eurhsomen auton mh eij thn diasporan twn ellhnwn mellei poreuesqai kai didaskein touj ellhnaj 7:35 Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
7:36 quis est hic sermo, quem dixit: Quæretis me, et non invenietis: et ubi sum ego, vos non potestis venire? 7:36 tij estin outoj o logoj on eipen zhthsete me kai oux eurhsete kai opou eimi egw umeij ou dunasqe elqein 7:36 What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?
7:37 In novissimo autem die magno festivitatis stabat Jesus, et clamabat dicens: Si quis sitit, veniat ad me et bibat. 7:37 en de th esxath hmera th megalh thj eorthj eisthkei o ihsouj kai ekracen legwn ean tij diya erxesqw proj me kai pinetw 7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
7:38 Qui credit in me, sicut dicit Scriptura, flumina de ventre ejus fluent aquæ vivæ. 7:38 o pisteuwn eij eme kaqwj eipen h grafh potamoi ek thj koiliaj autou reusousin udatoj zwntoj 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
7:39 Hoc autem dixit de Spiritu, quem accepturi erant credentes in eum: nondum enim erat Spiritus datus, quia Jesus nondum erat glorificatus. 7:39 touto de eipen peri tou pneumatoj ou emellon lambanein oi pisteuontej eij auton oupw gar hn pneuma agion oti o ihsouj oudepw edocasqh 7:39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
John 7:40 Ex illa ergo turba cum audissent hos sermones ejus, dicebant: Hic est vere propheta. John 7:40 polloi oun ek tou oxlou akousantej ton logon elegon outoj estin alhqwj o profhthj John 7:40 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.
7:41 Alii dicebant: Hic est Christus. Quidam autem dicebant: Numquid a Galilæa venit Christus? 7:41 alloi elegon outoj estin o xristoj alloi de elegon mh gar ek thj galilaiaj o xristoj erxetai 7:41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?
7:42 nonne Scriptura dicit: Quia ex semine David, et de Bethlehem castello, ubi erat David, venit Christus? 7:42 ouxi h grafh eipen oti ek tou spermatoj dabid kai apo bhqleem thj kwmhj opou hn dabid o xristoj erxetai 7:42 Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
7:43 Dissensio itaque facta est in turba propter eum. 7:43 sxisma oun en tw oxlw egeneto di auton 7:43 So there was a division among the people because of him.
7:44 Quidam autem ex ipsis volebant apprehendere eum: sed nemo misit super eum manus. 7:44 tinej de hqelon ec autwn piasai auton all oudeij epebalen ep auton taj xeiraj 7:44 And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.
7:45 Venerunt ergo ministri ad pontifices et pharisæos. Et dixerunt eis illi: Quare non adduxistis illum? 7:45 hlqon oun oi uphretai proj touj arxiereij kai farisaiouj kai eipon autoij ekeinoi dia ti ouk hgagete auton 7:45 Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?
7:46 Responderunt ministri: Numquam sic locutus est homo, sicut hic homo. 7:46 apekriqhsan oi uphretai oudepote outwj elalhsen anqrwpoj wj outoj o anqrwpoj 7:46 The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.
7:47 Responderunt ergo eis pharisæi: Numquid et vos seducti estis? 7:47 apekriqhsan oun autoij oi farisaioi mh kai umeij peplanhsqe 7:47 Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived?
7:48 numquid ex principibus aliquis credidit in eum, aut ex pharisæis? 7:48 mh tij ek twn arxontwn episteusen eij auton h ek twn farisaiwn 7:48 Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?
7:49 sed turba hæc, quæ non novit legem, maledicti sunt. 7:49 all o oxloj outoj o mh ginwskwn ton nomon epikataratoi eisin 7:49 But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.
John 7:50 Dixit Nicodemus ad eos, ille qui venit ad eum nocte, qui unus erat ex ipsis: John 7:50 legei nikodhmoj proj autouj o elqwn nuktoj proj auton eij wn ec autwn John 7:50 Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)
7:51 Numquid lex nostra judicat hominem, nisi prius audierit ab ipso, et cognoverit quid faciat? 7:51 mh o nomoj hmwn krinei ton anqrwpon ean mh akoush par autou proteron kai gnw ti poiei 7:51 Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?
7:52 Responderunt, et dixerunt ei: Numquid et tu Galilæus es? scrutare Scripturas, et vide quia a Galilæa propheta non surgit. 7:52 apekriqhsan kai eipon autw mh kai su ek thj galilaiaj ei ereunhson kai ide oti profhthj ek thj galilaiaj ouk eghgertai 7:52 They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.
7:53 Et reversi sunt unusquisque in domum suam. 7:53 kai eporeuqh ekastoj eij ton oikon autou 7:53 And every man went unto his own house.
