Acts 4:1 lalountwn de autwn proj ton laon epesthsan autoij oi iereij kai o strathgoj tou ierou kai oi saddoukaioi Acts 4:1 And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them,
4:2 diaponoumenoi dia to didaskein autouj ton laon kai kataggellein en tw ihsou thn anastasin thn ek nekrwn 4:2 Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.
4:3 kai epebalon autoij taj xeiraj kai eqento eij thrhsin eij thn aurion hn gar espera hdh 4:3 And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide.
4:4 polloi de twn akousantwn ton logon episteusan kai egenhqh o ariqmoj twn andrwn wsei xiliadej pente 4:4 Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.
4:5 egeneto de epi thn aurion sunaxqhnai autwn touj arxontaj kai presbuterouj kai grammateij eij ierousalhm 4:5 And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes,
4:6 kai annan ton arxierea kai kaiafan kai iwannhn kai alecandron kai osoi hsan ek genouj arxieratikou 4:6 And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.
4:7 kai sthsantej autouj en tw mesw epunqanonto en poia dunamei h en poiw onomati epoihsate touto umeij 4:7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?
4:8 tote petroj plhsqeij pneumatoj agiou eipen proj autouj arxontej tou laou kai presbuteroi tou israhl 4:8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,
4:9 ei hmeij shmeron anakrinomeqa epi euergesia anqrwpou asqenouj en tini outoj seswstai 4:9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;
Acts 4:10 gnwston estw pasin umin kai panti tw law israhl oti en tw onomati ihsou xristou tou nazwraiou on umeij estaurwsate on o qeoj hgeiren ek nekrwn en toutw outoj paresthken enwpion umwn ugihj Acts 4:10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
4:11 outoj estin o liqoj o ecouqenhqeij uf umwn twn oikodomountwn o genomenoj eij kefalhn gwniaj 4:11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
4:12 kai ouk estin en allw oudeni h swthria oute gar onoma estin eteron upo ton ouranon to dedomenon en anqrwpoij en w dei swqhnai hmaj 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
4:13 qewrountej de thn tou petrou parrhsian kai iwannou kai katalabomenoi oti anqrwpoi agrammatoi eisin kai idiwtai eqaumazon epeginwskon te autouj oti sun tw ihsou hsan 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
4:14 ton de anqrwpon blepontej sun autoij estwta ton teqerapeumenon ouden eixon anteipein 4:14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.
4:15 keleusantej de autouj ecw tou sunedriou apelqein sunebalon proj allhlouj 4:15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,
4:16 legontej ti poihsomen toij anqrwpoij toutoij oti men gar gnwston shmeion gegonen di autwn pasin toij katoikousin ierousalhm faneron kai ou dunameqa arnhsasqai 4:16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.
4:17 all ina mh epi pleion dianemhqh eij ton laon apeilh apeilhswmeqa autoij mhketi lalein epi tw onomati toutw mhdeni anqrwpwn 4:17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.
4:18 kai kalesantej autouj parhggeilan autoij to kaqolou mh fqeggesqai mhde didaskein epi tw onomati tou ihsou 4:18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.
4:19 o de petroj kai iwannhj apokriqentej proj autouj eipon ei dikaion estin enwpion tou qeou umwn akouein mallon h tou qeou krinate 4:19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
Acts 4:20 ou dunameqa gar hmeij a eidomen kai hkousamen mh lalein Acts 4:20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.
4:21 oi de prosapeilhsamenoi apelusan autouj mhden euriskontej to pwj kolaswntai autouj dia ton laon oti pantej edocazon ton qeon epi tw gegonoti 4:21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.
4:22 etwn gar hn pleionwn tessarakonta o anqrwpoj ef on egegonei to shmeion touto thj iasewj 4:22 For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shewed.
4:23 apoluqentej de hlqon proj touj idiouj kai aphggeilan osa proj autouj oi arxiereij kai oi presbuteroi eipon 4:23 And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.
4:24 oi de akousantej omoqumadon hran fwnhn proj ton qeon kai eipon despota su o qeoj o poihsaj ton ouranon kai thn ghn kai thn qalassan kai panta ta en autoij 4:24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:
4:25 o dia stomatoj dabid tou paidoj sou eipwn ina ti efruacan eqnh kai laoi emelethsan kena 4:25 Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?
4:26 paresthsan oi basileij thj ghj kai oi arxontej sunhxqhsan epi to auto kata tou kuriou kai kata tou xristou autou 4:26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.
4:27 sunhxqhsan gar ep alhqeiaj epi ton agion paida sou ihsoun on exrisaj hrwdhj te kai pontioj pilatoj sun eqnesin kai laoij israhl 4:27 For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,
4:28 poihsai osa h xeir sou kai h boulh sou prowrisen genesqai 4:28 For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.
4:29 kai ta nun kurie epide epi taj apeilaj autwn kai doj toij douloij sou meta parrhsiaj pashj lalein ton logon sou 4:29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,
Acts 4:30 en tw thn xeira sou ekteinein se eij iasin kai shmeia kai terata ginesqai dia tou onomatoj tou agiou paidoj sou ihsou Acts 4:30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.
4:31 kai dehqentwn autwn esaleuqh o topoj en w hsan sunhgmenoi kai eplhsqhsan apantej pneumatoj agiou kai elaloun ton logon tou qeou meta parrhsiaj 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
4:32 tou de plhqouj twn pisteusantwn hn h kardia kai h yuxh mia kai oud eij ti twn uparxontwn autw elegen idion einai all hn autoij apanta koina 4:32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.
4:33 kai megalh dunamei apedidoun to marturion oi apostoloi thj anastasewj tou kuriou ihsou xarij te megalh hn epi pantaj autouj 4:33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.
4:34 oude gar endehj tij uphrxen en autoij osoi gar kthtorej xwriwn h oikiwn uphrxon pwlountej eferon taj timaj twn pipraskomenwn 4:34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,
4:35 kai etiqoun para touj podaj twn apostolwn diedidoto de ekastw kaqoti an tij xreian eixen 4:35 And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.
4:36 iwshj de o epiklhqeij barnabaj upo twn apostolwn o estin meqermhneuomenon uioj paraklhsewj leuithj kuprioj tw genei 4:36 And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,
4:37 uparxontoj autw agrou pwlhsaj hnegken to xrhma kai eqhken para touj podaj twn apostolwn 4:37 Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.
