Matthew 4:1 Tunc Jesus ductus est in desertum a Spiritu, ut tentaretur a diabolo. Matthew 4:1 tote o ihsouj anhxqh eij thn erhmon upo tou pneumatoj peirasqhnai upo tou diabolou Matthew 4:1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
4:2 Et cum jejunasset quadraginta diebus, et quadraginta noctibus, postea esuriit. 4:2 kai nhsteusaj hmeraj tessarakonta kai nuktaj tessarakonta usteron epeinasen 4:2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
4:3 Et accedens tentator dixit ei: Si Filius Dei es, dic ut lapides isti panes fiant. 4:3 kai proselqwn autw o peirazwn eipen ei uioj ei tou qeou eipe ina oi liqoi outoi artoi genwntai 4:3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4:4 Qui respondens dixit: Scriptum est: Non in solo pane vivit homo, sed in omni verbo, quod procedit de ore Dei. 4:4 o de apokriqeij eipen gegraptai ouk ep artw monw zhsetai anqrwpoj all epi panti rhmati ekporeuomenw dia stomatoj qeou 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
4:5 Tunc assumpsit eum diabolus in sanctam civitatem, et statuit eum super pinnaculum templi, 4:5 tote paralambanei auton o diaboloj eij thn agian polin kai isthsin auton epi to pterugion tou ierou 4:5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
4:6 et dixit ei: Si Filius Dei es, mitte te deorsum. Scriptum est enim: Quia angelis suis mandavit de te, et in manibus tollent te, ne forte offendas ad lapidem pedem tuum. 4:6 kai legei autw ei uioj ei tou qeou bale seauton katw gegraptai gar oti toij aggeloij autou enteleitai peri sou kai epi xeirwn arousin se mhpote proskoyhj proj liqon ton poda sou 4:6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
4:7 Ait illi Jesus: Rursum scriptum est: Non tentabis Dominum Deum tuum. 4:7 efh autw o ihsouj palin gegraptai ouk ekpeiraseij kurion ton qeon sou 4:7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
4:8 Iterum assumpsit eum diabolus in montem excelsum valde: et ostendit ei omnia regna mundi, et gloriam eorum, 4:8 palin paralambanei auton o diaboloj eij oroj uyhlon lian kai deiknusin autw pasaj taj basileiaj tou kosmou kai thn docan autwn 4:8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
4:9 et dixit ei: Hæc omnia tibi dabo, si cadens adoraveris me. 4:9 kai legei autw tauta panta soi dwsw ean peswn proskunhshj moi 4:9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
Matthew 4:10 Tunc dicit ei Jesus: Vade Satana: Scriptum est enim: Dominum Deum tuum adorabis, et illi soli servies. Matthew 4:10 tote legei autw o ihsouj upage satana gegraptai gar kurion ton qeon sou proskunhseij kai autw monw latreuseij Matthew 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
4:11 Tunc reliquit eum diabolus: et ecce angeli accesserunt, et ministrabant ei. 4:11 tote afihsin auton o diaboloj kai idou aggeloi proshlqon kai dihkonoun autw 4:11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
4:12 Cum autem audisset Jesus quod Joannes traditus esset, secessit in Galilæam: 4:12 akousaj de o ihsouj oti iwannhj paredoqh anexwrhsen eij thn galilaian 4:12 Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee;
4:13 et, relicta civitate Nazareth, venit, et habitavit in Capharnaum maritima, in finibus Zabulon et Nephthalim: 4:13 kai katalipwn thn nazareq elqwn katwkhsen eij kapernaoum thn paraqalassian en orioij zaboulwn kai nefqaleim 4:13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:
4:14 ut adimpleretur quod dictum est per Isaiam prophetam: 4:14 ina plhrwqh to rhqen dia hsaiou tou profhtou legontoj 4:14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
4:15 [Terra Zabulon, et terra Nephthalim, via maris trans Jordanem, Galilæa gentium: 4:15 gh zaboulwn kai gh nefqaleim odon qalasshj peran tou iordanou galilaia twn eqnwn 4:15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;
4:16 populus, qui sedebat in tenebris, vidit lucem magnam: et sedentibus in regione umbræ mortis, lux orta est eis.] 4:16 o laoj o kaqhmenoj en skotei eide fwj mega kai toij kaqhmenoij en xwra kai skia qanatou fwj aneteilen autoij 4:16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.
4:17 Exinde cœpit Jesus prædicare, et dicere: Pœnitentiam agite: appropinquavit enim regnum cælorum. 4:17 apo tote hrcato o ihsouj khrussein kai legein metanoeite hggiken gar h basileia twn ouranwn 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
4:18 Ambulans autem Jesus juxta mare Galilææ, vidit duos fratres, Simonem, qui vocatur Petrus, et Andream fratrem ejus, mittentes rete in mare (erant enim piscatores), 4:18 peripatwn de o ihsouj para thn qalassan thj galilaiaj eiden duo adelfouj simwna ton legomenon petron kai andrean ton adelfon autou ballontaj amfiblhstron eij thn qalassan hsan gar alieij 4:18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
4:19 et ait illis: Venite post me, et faciam vos fieri piscatores hominum. 4:19 kai legei autoij deute opisw mou kai poihsw umaj alieij anqrwpwn 4:19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
Matthew 4:20 At illi continuo relictis retibus secuti sunt eum. Matthew 4:20 oi de euqewj afentej ta diktua hkolouqhsan autw Matthew 4:20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.
4:21 Et procedens inde, vidit alios duos fratres, Jacobum Zebedæi, et Joannem fratrem ejus, in navi cum Zebedæo patre eorum, reficientes retia sua: et vocavit eos. 4:21 kai probaj ekeiqen eiden allouj duo adelfouj iakwbon ton tou zebedaiou kai iwannhn ton adelfon autou en tw ploiw meta zebedaiou tou patroj autwn katartizontaj ta diktua autwn kai ekalesen autouj 4:21 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.
4:22 Illi autem statim relictis retibus et patre, secuti sunt eum. 4:22 oi de euqewj afentej to ploion kai ton patera autwn hkolouqhsan autw 4:22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.
4:23 Et circuibat Jesus totam Galilæam, docens in synagogis eorum, et prædicans Evangelium regni: et sanans omnem languorem, et omnem infirmitatem in populo. 4:23 kai perihgen olhn thn galilaian o ihsouj didaskwn en taij sunagwgaij autwn kai khrusswn to euaggelion thj basileiaj kai qerapeuwn pasan noson kai pasan malakian en tw law 4:23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
4:24 Et abiit opinio ejus in totam Syriam, et obtulerunt ei omnes male habentes, variis languoribus, et tormentis comprehensos, et qui dæmonia habebant, et lunaticos, et paralyticos, et curavit eos: 4:24 kai aphlqen h akoh autou eij olhn thn surian kai proshnegkan autw pantaj touj kakwj exontaj poikilaij nosoij kai basanoij sunexomenouj kai daimonizomenouj kai selhniazomenouj kai paralutikouj kai eqerapeusen autouj 4:24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.
4:25 et secutæ sunt eum turbæ multæ de Galilæa, et Decapoli, et de Jerosolymis, et de Judæa, et de trans Jordanem. 4:25 kai hkolouqhsan autw oxloi polloi apo thj galilaiaj kai dekapolewj kai ierosolumwn kai ioudaiaj kai peran tou iordanou 4:25 And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan.
