23:2 dicens: Super cathedram Moysi sederunt scribæ et pharisæi. 23:2 legwn epi thj mwsewj kaqedraj ekaqisan oi grammateij kai oi farisaioi 23:2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:
23:3 Omnia ergo quæcumque dixerint vobis, servate, et facite: secundum opera vero eorum nolite facere: dicunt enim, et non faciunt. 23:3 panta oun osa an eipwsin umin threin threite kai poieite kata de ta erga autwn mh poieite legousin gar kai ou poiousin 23:3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.
23:4 Alligant enim onera gravia, et importabilia, et imponunt in humeros hominum: digito autem suo nolunt ea movere. 23:4 desmeuousin gar fortia barea kai dusbastakta kai epitiqeasin epi touj wmouj twn anqrwpwn tw de daktulw autwn ou qelousin kinhsai auta 23:4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
23:5 Omnia vero opera sua faciunt ut videantur ab hominibus: dilatant enim phylacteria sua, et magnificant fimbrias. 23:5 panta de ta erga autwn poiousin proj to qeaqhnai toij anqrwpoij platunousin de ta fulakthria autwn kai megalunousin ta kraspeda twn imatiwn autwn 23:5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
23:6 Amant autem primos recubitus in cœnis, et primas cathedras in synagogis, 23:6 filousin te thn prwtoklisian en toij deipnoij kai taj prwtokaqedriaj en taij sunagwgaij 23:6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
23:7 et salutationes in foro, et vocari ab hominibus Rabbi. 23:7 kai touj aspasmouj en taij agoraij kai kaleisqai upo twn anqrwpwn rabbi rabbi 23:7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
23:8 Vos autem nolite vocari Rabbi: unus est enim magister vester, omnes autem vos fratres estis. 23:8 umeij de mh klhqhte rabbi eij gar estin umwn o kaqhghthj o xristoj pantej de umeij adelfoi este 23:8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
23:9 Et patrem nolite vocare vobis super terram: unus est enim pater vester qui in cælis est. 23:9 kai patera mh kaleshte umwn epi thj ghj eij gar estin o pathr umwn o en toij ouranoij 23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
Matthew 23:10 Nec vocemini magistri: quia magister vester unus est, Christus. Matthew 23:10 mhde klhqhte kaqhghtai eij gar umwn estin o kaqhghthj o xristoj Matthew 23:10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.
23:11 Qui major est vestrum, erit minister vester. 23:11 o de meizwn umwn estai umwn diakonoj 23:11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
23:12 Qui autem se exaltaverit, humiliabitur: et qui se humiliaverit, exaltabitur. 23:12 ostij de uywsei eauton tapeinwqhsetai kai ostij tapeinwsei eauton uywqhsetai 23:12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
23:13 Væ autem vobis scribæ et pharisæi hypocritæ, quia clauditis regnum cælorum ante homines! vos enim non intratis, nec introëuntes sinitis intrare. 23:13 ouai de umin grammateij kai farisaioi upokritai oti kleiete thn basileian twn ouranwn emprosqen twn anqrwpwn umeij gar ouk eiserxesqe oude touj eiserxomenouj afiete eiselqein 23:13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
23:14 Væ vobis scribæ et pharisæi hypocritæ, quia comeditis domos viduarum, orationes longas orantes! propter hoc amplius accipietis judicium. 23:14 ouai umin grammateij kai farisaioi upokritai oti katesqiete taj oikiaj twn xhrwn kai profasei makra proseuxomenoi dia touto lhyesqe perissoteron krima 23:14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
23:15 Væ vobis scribæ et pharisæi hypocritæ, quia circuitis mare, et aridam, ut faciatis unum proselytum, et cum fuerit factus, facitis eum filium gehennæ duplo quam vos. 23:15 ouai umin grammateij kai farisaioi upokritai oti periagete thn qalassan kai thn chran poihsai ena proshluton kai otan genhtai poieite auton uion geennhj diploteron umwn 23:15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
23:16 Væ vobis duces cæci, qui dicitis: Quicumque juraverit per templum, nihil est: qui autem juraverit in auro templo, debet. 23:16 ouai umin odhgoi tufloi oi legontej oj an omosh en tw naw ouden estin oj d an omosh en tw xrusw tou naou ofeilei 23:16 Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!
23:17 Stulti et cæci: quid enim majus est? aurum, an templum, quod sanctificat aurum? 23:17 mwroi kai tufloi tij gar meizwn estin o xrusoj h o naoj o agiazwn ton xruson 23:17 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
23:18 Et quicumque juraverit in altari, nihil est: quicumque autem juraverit in dono, quod est super illud, debet. 23:18 kai oj ean omosh en tw qusiasthriw ouden estin oj d an omosh en tw dwrw tw epanw autou ofeilei 23:18 And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.
23:19 Cæci: quid enim majus est, donum, an altare, quod sanctificat donum? 23:19 mwroi kai tufloi ti gar meizon to dwron h to qusiasthrion to agiazon to dwron 23:19 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?
Matthew 23:20 Qui ergo jurat in altari, jurat in eo, et in omnibus quæ super illud sunt. Matthew 23:20 o oun omosaj en tw qusiasthriw omnuei en autw kai en pasin toij epanw autou Matthew 23:20 Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.
23:21 Et quicumque juraverit in templo, jurat in illo, et in eo qui habitat in ipso: 23:21 kai o omosaj en tw naw omnuei en autw kai en tw katoikounti auton 23:21 And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
23:22 et qui jurat in cælo, jurat in throno Dei, et in eo qui sedet super eum. 23:22 kai o omosaj en tw ouranw omnuei en tw qronw tou qeou kai en tw kaqhmenw epanw autou 23:22 And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.
23:23 Væ vobis scribæ et pharisæi hypocritæ, qui decimatis mentham, et anethum, et cyminum, et reliquistis quæ graviora sunt legis, judicium, et misericordiam, et fidem! hæc oportuit facere, et illa non omittere. 23:23 ouai umin grammateij kai farisaioi upokritai oti apodekatoute to hduosmon kai to anhqon kai to kuminon kai afhkate ta barutera tou nomou thn krisin kai ton eleon kai thn pistin tauta edei poihsai kakeina mh afienai 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
23:24 Duces cæci, excolantes culicem, camelum autem glutientes. 23:24 odhgoi tufloi oi diulizontej ton kwnwpa thn de kamhlon katapinontej 23:24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
23:25 Væ vobis scribæ et pharisæi hypocritæ, quia mundatis quod deforis est calicis et paropsidis; intus autem pleni estis rapina et immunditia! 23:25 ouai umin grammateij kai farisaioi upokritai oti kaqarizete to ecwqen tou pothriou kai thj paroyidoj eswqen de gemousin ec arpaghj kai akrasiaj 23:25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
23:26 Pharisæe cæce, munda prius quod intus est calicis, et paropsidis, ut fiat id, quod deforis est, mundum. 23:26 farisaie tufle kaqarison prwton to entoj tou pothriou kai thj paroyidoj ina genhtai kai to ektoj autwn kaqaron 23:26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
23:27 Væ vobis scribæ et pharisæi hypocritæ, quia similes estis sepulchris dealbatis, quæ a foris parent hominibus speciosa, intus vero pleni sunt ossibus mortuorum, et omni spurcitia! 23:27 ouai umin grammateij kai farisaioi upokritai oti paromoiazete tafoij kekoniamenoij oitinej ecwqen men fainontai wraioi eswqen de gemousin ostewn nekrwn kai pashj akaqarsiaj 23:27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
23:28 Sic et vos a foris quidem paretis hominibus justi: intus autem pleni estis hypocrisi et iniquitate. 23:28 outwj kai umeij ecwqen men fainesqe toij anqrwpoij dikaioi eswqen de mestoi este upokrisewj kai anomiaj 23:28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
23:29 Væ vobis scribæ et pharisæi hypocritæ, qui ædificatis sepulchra prophetarum, et ornatis monumenta justorum, 23:29 ouai umin grammateij kai farisaioi upokritai oti oikodomeite touj tafouj twn profhtwn kai kosmeite ta mnhmeia twn dikaiwn 23:29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
Matthew 23:30 et dicitis: Si fuissemus in diebus patrum nostrorum, non essemus socii eorum in sanguine prophetarum! Matthew 23:30 kai legete ei hmen en taij hmeraij twn paterwn hmwn ouk an hmen koinwnoi autwn en tw aimati twn profhtwn Matthew 23:30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
23:31 itaque testimonio estis vobismetipsis, quia filii estis eorum, qui prophetas occiderunt. 23:31 wste martureite eautoij oti uioi este twn foneusantwn touj profhtaj 23:31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
23:32 Et vos implete mensuram patrum vestrorum. 23:32 kai umeij plhrwsate to metron twn paterwn umwn 23:32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
23:33 Serpentes, genimina viperarum, quomodo fugietis a judicio gehennæ? 23:33 ofeij gennhmata exidnwn pwj fughte apo thj krisewj thj geennhj 23:33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
23:34 Ideo ecce ego mitto ad vos prophetas, et sapientes, et scribas, et ex illis occidetis, et crucifigetis, et ex eis flagellabitis in synagogis vestris, et persequemini de civitate in civitatem: 23:34 dia touto idou egw apostellw proj umaj profhtaj kai sofouj kai grammateij kai ec autwn apokteneite kai staurwsete kai ec autwn mastigwsete en taij sunagwgaij umwn kai diwcete apo polewj eij polin 23:34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:
23:35 ut veniat super vos omnis sanguis justus, qui effusus est super terram, a sanguine Abel justi usque ad sanguinem Zachariæ, filii Barachiæ, quem occidistis inter templum et altare. 23:35 opwj elqh ef umaj pan aima dikaion ekxunomenon epi thj ghj apo tou aimatoj abel tou dikaiou ewj tou aimatoj zaxariou uiou baraxiou on efoneusate metacu tou naou kai tou qusiasthriou 23:35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
23:36 Amen dico vobis, venient hæc omnia super generationem istam. 23:36 amhn legw umin hcei tauta panta epi thn genean tauthn 23:36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.
23:37 Jerusalem, Jerusalem, quæ occidis prophetas, et lapidas eos, qui ad te missi sunt, quoties volui congregare filios tuos, quemadmodum gallina congregat pullos suos sub alas, et noluisti? 23:37 ierousalhm ierousalhm h apokteinousa touj profhtaj kai liqobolousa touj apestalmenouj proj authn posakij hqelhsa episunagagein ta tekna sou on tropon episunagei ornij ta nossia eauthj upo taj pterugaj kai ouk hqelhsate 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
23:38 Ecce relinquetur vobis domus vestra deserta. 23:38 idou afietai umin o oikoj umwn erhmoj 23:38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
23:39 Dico enim vobis, non me videbitis amodo, donec dicatis: Benedictus, qui venit in nomine Domini. 23:39 legw gar umin ou mh me idhte ap arti ewj an eiphte euloghmenoj o erxomenoj en onomati kuriou 23:39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
