Matthew 20:1 Simile est regnum cælorum homini patrifamilias, qui exiit primo mane conducere operarios in vineam suam. Matthew 20:1 omoia gar estin h basileia twn ouranwn anqrwpw oikodespoth ostij echlqen ama prwi misqwsasqai ergataj eij ton ampelwna autou Matthew 20:1 For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.
20:2 Conventione autem facta cum operariis ex denario diurno, misit eos in vineam suam. 20:2 sumfwnhsaj de meta twn ergatwn ek dhnariou thn hmeran apesteilen autouj eij ton ampelwna autou 20:2 And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
20:3 Et egressus circa horam tertiam, vidit alios stantes in foro otiosos, 20:3 kai ecelqwn peri thn trithn wran eiden allouj estwtaj en th agora argouj 20:3 And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,
20:4 et dixit illis: Ite et vos in vineam meam, et quod justum fuerit dabo vobis. 20:4 kakeinoij eipen upagete kai umeij eij ton ampelwna kai o ean h dikaion dwsw umin 20:4 And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way.
20:5 Illi autem abierunt. Iterum autem exiit circa sextam et nonam horam: et fecit similiter. 20:5 oi de aphlqon palin ecelqwn peri ekthn kai ennathn wran epoihsen wsautwj 20:5 Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.
20:6 Circa undecimam vero exiit, et invenit alios stantes, et dicit illis: Quid hic statis tota die otiosi? 20:6 peri de thn endekathn wran ecelqwn euren allouj estwtaj argouj kai legei autoij ti wde esthkate olhn thn hmeran argoi 20:6 And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?
20:7 Dicunt ei: Quia nemo nos conduxit. Dicit illis: Ite et vos in vineam meam. 20:7 legousin autw oti oudeij hmaj emisqwsato legei autoij upagete kai umeij eij ton ampelwna kai o ean h dikaion lhyesqe 20:7 They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive.
20:8 Cum sero autem factum esset, dicit dominus vineæ procuratori suo: Voca operarios, et redde illis mercedem incipiens a novissimis usque ad primos. 20:8 oyiaj de genomenhj legei o kurioj tou ampelwnoj tw epitropw autou kaleson touj ergataj kai apodoj autoij ton misqon arcamenoj apo twn esxatwn ewj twn prwtwn 20:8 So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first.
20:9 Cum venissent ergo qui circa undecimam horam venerant, acceperunt singulos denarios. 20:9 kai elqontej oi peri thn endekathn wran elabon ana dhnarion 20:9 And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny.
Matthew 20:10 Venientes autem et primi, arbitrati sunt quod plus essent accepturi: acceperunt autem et ipsi singulos denarios. Matthew 20:10 elqontej de oi prwtoi enomisan oti pleiona lhyontai kai elabon kai autoi ana dhnarion Matthew 20:10 But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny.
20:11 Et accipientes murmurabant adversus patremfamilias, 20:11 labontej de egogguzon kata tou oikodespotou 20:11 And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house,
20:12 dicentes: Hi novissimi una hora fecerunt, et pares illos nobis fecisti, qui portavimus pondus diei, et æstus. 20:12 legontej oti outoi oi esxatoi mian wran epoihsan kai isouj hmin autouj epoihsaj toij bastasasin to baroj thj hmeraj kai ton kauswna 20:12 Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.
20:13 At ille respondens uni eorum, dixit: Amice, non facio tibi injuriam: nonne ex denario convenisti mecum? 20:13 o de apokriqeij eipen eni autwn etaire ouk adikw se ouxi dhnariou sunefwnhsaj moi 20:13 But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?
20:14 Tolle quod tuum est, et vade: volo autem et huic novissimo dare sicut et tibi. 20:14 aron to son kai upage qelw de toutw tw esxatw dounai wj kai soi 20:14 Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee.
20:15 Aut non licet mihi quod volo, facere? an oculus tuus nequam est, quia ego bonus sum? 20:15 h ouk ecestin moi poihsai o qelw en toij emoij ei o ofqalmoj sou ponhroj estin oti egw agaqoj eimi 20:15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?
20:16 Sic erunt novissimi primi, et primi novissimi. Multi enim sunt vocati, pauci vero electi. 20:16 outwj esontai oi esxatoi prwtoi kai oi prwtoi esxatoi polloi gar eisin klhtoi oligoi de eklektoi 20:16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.
20:17 Et ascendens Jesus Jerosolymam, assumpsit duodecim discipulos secreto, et ait illis: 20:17 kai anabainwn o ihsouj eij ierosoluma parelaben touj dwdeka maqhtaj kat idian en th odw kai eipen autoij 20:17 And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them,
20:18 Ecce ascendimus Jerosolymam, et Filius hominis tradetur principibus sacerdotum, et scribis, et condemnabunt eum morte, 20:18 idou anabainomen eij ierosoluma kai o uioj tou anqrwpou paradoqhsetai toij arxiereusin kai grammateusin kai katakrinousin auton qanatw 20:18 Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death,
20:19 et tradent eum gentibus ad illudendum, et flagellandum, et crucifigendum, et tertia die resurget. 20:19 kai paradwsousin auton toij eqnesin eij to empaicai kai mastigwsai kai staurwsai kai th trith hmera anasthsetai 20:19 And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.
Matthew 20:20 Tunc accessit ad eum mater filiorum Zebedæi cum filiis suis, adorans et petens aliquid ab eo. Matthew 20:20 tote proshlqen autw h mhthr twn uiwn zebedaiou meta twn uiwn authj proskunousa kai aitousa ti par autou Matthew 20:20 Then came to him the mother of Zebedee's children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.
20:21 Qui dixit ei: Quid vis? Ait illi: Dic ut sedeant hi duo filii mei, unus ad dexteram tuam, et unus ad sinistram in regno tuo. 20:21 o de eipen auth ti qeleij legei autw eipe ina kaqiswsin outoi oi duo uioi mou eij ek deciwn sou kai eij ec euwnumwn en th basileia sou 20:21 And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.
20:22 Respondens autem Jesus, dixit: Nescitis quid petatis. Potestis bibere calicem, quem ego bibiturus sum? Dicunt ei: Possumus. 20:22 apokriqeij de o ihsouj eipen ouk oidate ti aiteisqe dunasqe piein to pothrion o egw mellw pinein kai to baptisma o egw baptizomai baptisqhnai legousin autw dunameqa 20:22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.
20:23 Ait illis: Calicem quidem meum bibetis: sedere autem ad dexteram meam vel sinistram non est meum dare vobis, sed quibus paratum est a Patre meo. 20:23 kai legei autoij to men pothrion mou piesqe kai to baptisma o egw baptizomai baptisqhsesqe to de kaqisai ek deciwn mou kai ec euwnumwn mou ouk estin emon dounai all oij htoimastai upo tou patroj mou 20:23 And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.
20:24 Et audientes decem, indignati sunt de duobus fratribus. 20:24 kai akousantej oi deka hganakthsan peri twn duo adelfwn 20:24 And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brethren.
20:25 Jesus autem vocavit eos ad se, et ait: Scitis quia principes gentium dominantur eorum: et qui majores sunt, potestatem exercent in eos. 20:25 o de ihsouj proskalesamenoj autouj eipen oidate oti oi arxontej twn eqnwn katakurieuousin autwn kai oi megaloi katecousiazousin autwn 20:25 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.
20:26 Non ita erit inter vos: sed quicumque voluerit inter vos major fieri, sit vester minister: 20:26 oux outwj de estai en umin all oj ean qelh en umin megaj genesqai estw umwn diakonoj 20:26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;
20:27 et qui voluerit inter vos primus esse, erit vester servus. 20:27 kai oj ean qelh en umin einai prwtoj estw umwn douloj 20:27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:
20:28 Sicut Filius hominis non venit ministrari, sed ministrare, et dare animam suam redemptionem pro multis. 20:28 wsper o uioj tou anqrwpou ouk hlqen diakonhqhnai alla diakonhsai kai dounai thn yuxhn autou lutron anti pollwn 20:28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
20:29 Et egredientibus illis ab Jericho, secuta est eum turba multa, 20:29 kai ekporeuomenwn autwn apo ierixw hkolouqhsen autw oxloj poluj 20:29 And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him.
Matthew 20:30 et ecce duo cæci sedentes secus viam audierunt quia Jesus transiret: et clamaverunt, dicentes: Domine, miserere nostri, fili David. Matthew 20:30 kai idou duo tufloi kaqhmenoi para thn odon akousantej oti ihsouj paragei ekracan legontej elehson hmaj kurie uioj dabid Matthew 20:30 And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.
20:31 Turba autem increpabat eos ut tacerent. At illi magis clamabant, dicentes: Domine, miserere nostri, fili David. 20:31 o de oxloj epetimhsen autoij ina siwphswsin oi de meizon ekrazon legontej elehson hmaj kurie uioj dabid 20:31 And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.
20:32 Et stetit Jesus, et vocavit eos, et ait: Quid vultis ut faciam vobis? 20:32 kai staj o ihsouj efwnhsen autouj kai eipen ti qelete poihsw umin 20:32 And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you?
20:33 Dicunt illi: Domine, ut aperiantur oculi nostri. 20:33 legousin autw kurie ina anoixqwsin hmwn oi ofqalmoi 20:33 They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.
20:34 Misertus autem eorum Jesus, tetigit oculos eorum. Et confestim viderunt, et secuti sunt eum. 20:34 splagxnisqeij de o ihsouj hyato twn ofqalmwn autwn kai euqewj anebleyan autwn oi ofqalmoi kai hkolouqhsan autw 20:34 So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.
