Matthew 22:1 Et respondens Jesus, dixit iterum in parabolis eis, dicens: Matthew 22:1 kai apokriqeij o ihsouj palin eipen autoij en parabolaij legwn Matthew 22:1 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,
22:2 Simile factum est regnum cælorum homini regi, qui fecit nuptias filio suo. 22:2 wmoiwqh h basileia twn ouranwn anqrwpw basilei ostij epoihsen gamouj tw uiw autou 22:2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,
22:3 Et misit servos suos vocare invitatos ad nuptias, et nolebant venire. 22:3 kai apesteilen touj doulouj autou kalesai touj keklhmenouj eij touj gamouj kai ouk hqelon elqein 22:3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.
22:4 Iterum misit alios servos, dicens: Dicite invitatis: Ecce prandium meum paravi, tauri mei et altilia occisa sunt, et omnia parata: venite ad nuptias. 22:4 palin apesteilen allouj doulouj legwn eipate toij keklhmenoij idou to ariston mou htoimasa oi tauroi mou kai ta sitista tequmena kai panta etoima deute eij touj gamouj 22:4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
22:5 Illi autem neglexerunt: et abierunt, alius in villam suam, alius vero ad negotiationem suam: 22:5 oi de amelhsantej aphlqon o men eij ton idion agron o de eij thn emporian autou 22:5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:
22:6 reliqui vero tenuerunt servos ejus, et contumeliis affectos occiderunt. 22:6 oi de loipoi krathsantej touj doulouj autou ubrisan kai apekteinan 22:6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.
22:7 Rex autem cum audisset, iratus est: et missis exercitibus suis, perdidit homicidas illos, et civitatem illorum succendit. 22:7 akousaj de o basileuj wrgisqh kai pemyaj ta strateumata autou apwlesen touj foneij ekeinouj kai thn polin autwn eneprhsen 22:7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
22:8 Tunc ait servis suis: Nuptiæ quidem paratæ sunt, sed qui invitati erant, non fuerunt digni: 22:8 tote legei toij douloij autou o men gamoj etoimoj estin oi de keklhmenoi ouk hsan acioi 22:8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.
22:9 ite ergo ad exitus viarum, et quoscumque inveneritis, vocate ad nuptias. 22:9 poreuesqe oun epi taj diecodouj twn odwn kai osouj an eurhte kalesate eij touj gamouj 22:9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.
Matthew 22:10 Et egressi servi ejus in vias, congregaverunt omnes quos invenerunt, malos et bonos: et impletæ sunt nuptiæ discumbentium. Matthew 22:10 kai ecelqontej oi douloi ekeinoi eij taj odouj sunhgagon pantaj osouj euron ponhrouj te kai agaqouj kai eplhsqh o gamoj anakeimenwn Matthew 22:10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.
22:11 Intravit autem rex ut videret discumbentes, et vidit ibi hominem non vestitum veste nuptiali. 22:11 eiselqwn de o basileuj qeasasqai touj anakeimenouj eiden ekei anqrwpon ouk endedumenon enduma gamou 22:11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
22:12 Et ait illi: Amice, quomodo huc intrasti non habens vestem nuptialem? At ille obmutuit. 22:12 kai legei autw etaire pwj eishlqej wde mh exwn enduma gamou o de efimwqh 22:12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
22:13 Tunc dicit rex ministris: Ligatis manibus et pedibus ejus, mittite eum in tenebras exteriores: ibi erit fletus et stridor dentium. 22:13 tote eipen o basileuj toij diakonoij dhsantej autou podaj kai xeiraj arate auton kai ekbalete eij to skotoj to ecwteron ekei estai o klauqmoj kai o brugmoj twn odontwn 22:13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
22:14 Multi enim sunt vocati, pauci vero electi. 22:14 polloi gar eisin klhtoi oligoi de eklektoi 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.
22:15 Tunc abeuntes pharisæi, consilium inierunt ut caperent eum in sermone. 22:15 tote poreuqentej oi farisaioi sumboulion elabon opwj auton pagideuswsin en logw 22:15 Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.
22:16 Et mittunt ei discipulos suos cum Herodianis, dicentes: Magister, scimus quia verax es, et viam Dei in veritate doces, et non est tibi cura de aliquo: non enim respicis personam hominum: 22:16 kai apostellousin autw touj maqhtaj autwn meta twn hrwdianwn legontej didaskale oidamen oti alhqhj ei kai thn odon tou qeou en alhqeia didaskeij kai ou melei soi peri oudenoj ou gar blepeij eij proswpon anqrwpwn 22:16 And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.
22:17 dic ergo nobis quid tibi videtur, licet censum dare Cæsari, an non? 22:17 eipe oun hmin ti soi dokei ecestin dounai khnson kaisari h ou 22:17 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?
22:18 Cognita autem Jesus nequitia eorum, ait: Quid me tentatis, hypocritæ? 22:18 gnouj de o ihsouj thn ponhrian autwn eipen ti me peirazete upokritai 22:18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?
22:19 ostendite mihi numisma census. At illi obtulerunt ei denarium. 22:19 epideicate moi to nomisma tou khnsou oi de proshnegkan autw dhnarion 22:19 Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.
Matthew 22:20 Et ait illis Jesus: Cujus est imago hæc, et superscriptio? Matthew 22:20 kai legei autoij tinoj h eikwn auth kai h epigrafh Matthew 22:20 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?
22:21 Dicunt ei: Cæsaris. Tunc ait illis: Reddite ergo quæ sunt Cæsaris, Cæsari: et quæ sunt Dei, Deo. 22:21 legousin autw kaisaroj tote legei autoij apodote oun ta kaisaroj kaisari kai ta tou qeou tw qew 22:21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.
22:22 Et audientes mirati sunt, et relicto eo abierunt. 22:22 kai akousantej eqaumasan kai afentej auton aphlqon 22:22 When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way.
22:23 In illo die accesserunt ad eum sadducæi, qui dicunt non esse resurrectionem: et interrogaverunt eum, 22:23 en ekeinh th hmera proshlqon autw saddoukaioi oi legontej mh einai anastasin kai ephrwthsan auton 22:23 The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,
22:24 dicentes: Magister, Moyses dixit: Si quis mortuus fuerit non habens filium, ut ducat frater ejus uxorem illius, et suscitet semen fratri suo. 22:24 legontej didaskale mwshj eipen ean tij apoqanh mh exwn tekna epigambreusei o adelfoj autou thn gunaika autou kai anasthsei sperma tw adelfw autou 22:24 Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
22:25 Erant autem apud nos septem fratres: et primus, uxore ducta, defunctus est: et non habens semen, reliquit uxorem suam fratri suo. 22:25 hsan de par hmin epta adelfoi kai o prwtoj gamhsaj eteleuthsen kai mh exwn sperma afhken thn gunaika autou tw adelfw autou 22:25 Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:
22:26 Similiter secundus, et tertius usque ad septimum. 22:26 omoiwj kai o deuteroj kai o tritoj ewj twn epta 22:26 Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.
22:27 Novissime autem omnium et mulier defuncta est. 22:27 usteron de pantwn apeqanen kai h gunh 22:27 And last of all the woman died also.
22:28 In resurrectione ergo cujus erit de septem uxor? omnes enim habuerunt eam. 22:28 en th oun anastasei tinoj twn epta estai gunh pantej gar esxon authn 22:28 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.
22:29 Respondens autem Jesus, ait illis: Erratis nescientes Scripturas, neque virtutem Dei. 22:29 apokriqeij de o ihsouj eipen autoij planasqe mh eidotej taj grafaj mhde thn dunamin tou qeou 22:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
Matthew 22:30 In resurrectione enim neque nubent, neque nubentur: sed erunt sicut angeli Dei in cælo. Matthew 22:30 en gar th anastasei oute gamousin oute ekgamizontai all wj aggeloi tou qeou en ouranw eisin Matthew 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
22:31 De resurrectione autem mortuorum non legistis quod dictum est a Deo dicente vobis: 22:31 peri de thj anastasewj twn nekrwn ouk anegnwte to rhqen umin upo tou qeou legontoj 22:31 But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,
22:32 Ego sum Deus Abraham, et Deus Isaac, et Deus Jacob? Non est Deus mortuorum, sed viventium. 22:32 egw eimi o qeoj abraam kai o qeoj isaak kai o qeoj iakwb ouk estin o qeoj qeoj nekrwn alla zwntwn 22:32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
22:33 Et audientes turbæ, mirabantur in doctrina ejus. 22:33 kai akousantej oi oxloi eceplhssonto epi th didaxh autou 22:33 And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.
22:34 Pharisæi autem audientes quod silentium imposuisset sadducæis, convenerunt in unum: 22:34 oi de farisaioi akousantej oti efimwsen touj saddoukaiouj sunhxqhsan epi to auto 22:34 But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.
22:35 et interrogavit eum unus ex eis legis doctor, tentans eum: 22:35 kai ephrwthsen eij ec autwn nomikoj peirazwn auton kai legwn 22:35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
22:36 Magister, quod est mandatum magnum in lege? 22:36 didaskale poia entolh megalh en tw nomw 22:36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
22:37 Ait illi Jesus: Diliges Dominum Deum tuum ex toto corde tuo, et in tota anima tua, et in tota mente tua. 22:37 o de ihsouj eipen autw agaphseij kurion ton qeon sou en olh th kardia sou kai en olh th yuxh sou kai en olh th dianoia sou 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
22:38 Hoc est maximum, et primum mandatum. 22:38 auth estin prwth kai megalh entolh 22:38 This is the first and great commandment.
22:39 Secundum autem simile est huic: Diliges proximum tuum, sicut teipsum. 22:39 deutera de omoia auth agaphseij ton plhsion sou wj seauton 22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Matthew 22:40 In his duobus mandatis universa lex pendet, et prophetæ. Matthew 22:40 en tautaij taij dusin entolaij oloj o nomoj kai oi profhtai kremantai Matthew 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
22:41 Congregatis autem pharisæis, interrogavit eos Jesus, 22:41 sunhgmenwn de twn farisaiwn ephrwthsen autouj o ihsouj 22:41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
22:42 dicens: Quid vobis videtur de Christo? cujus filius est? Dicunt ei: David. 22:42 legwn ti umin dokei peri tou xristou tinoj uioj estin legousin autw tou dabid 22:42 Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David.
22:43 Ait illis: Quomodo ergo David in spiritu vocat eum Dominum, dicens: 22:43 legei autoij pwj oun dabid en pneumati kurion auton kalei legwn 22:43 He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,
22:44 Dixit Dominus Domino meo: Sede a dextris meis, donec ponam inimicos tuos scabellum pedum tuorum? 22:44 eipen o kurioj tw kuriw mou kaqou ek deciwn mou ewj an qw touj exqrouj sou upopodion twn podwn sou 22:44 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?
22:45 Si ergo David vocat eum Dominum, quomodo filius ejus est? 22:45 ei oun dabid kalei auton kurion pwj uioj autou estin 22:45 If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?
22:46 Et nemo poterat ei respondere verbum: neque ausus fuit quisquam ex illa die eum amplius interrogare. 22:46 kai oudeij edunato autw apokriqhnai logon oude etolmhsen tij ap ekeinhj thj hmeraj eperwthsai auton ouketi 22:46 And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.
