Matthew 16:1 Et accesserunt ad eum pharisæi et sadducæi tentantes: et rogaverunt eum ut signum de cælo ostenderet eis. Matthew 16:1 kai proselqontej oi farisaioi kai saddoukaioi peirazontej ephrwthsan auton shmeion ek tou ouranou epideicai autoij Matthew 16:1 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.
16:2 At ille respondens, ait illis: Facto vespere dicitis: Serenum erit, rubicundum est enim cælum. 16:2 o de apokriqeij eipen autoij oyiaj genomenhj legete eudia purrazei gar o ouranoj 16:2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.
16:3 Et mane: Hodie tempestas, rutilat enim triste cælum. Faciem ergo cæli dijudicare nostis: signa autem temporum non potestis scire? 16:3 kai prwi shmeron xeimwn purrazei gar stugnazwn o ouranoj upokritai to men proswpon tou ouranou ginwskete diakrinein ta de shmeia twn kairwn ou dunasqe 16:3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
16:4 Generatio mala et adultera signum quærit: et signum non dabitur ei, nisi signum Jonæ prophetæ. Et relictis illis, abiit. 16:4 genea ponhra kai moixalij shmeion epizhtei kai shmeion ou doqhsetai auth ei mh to shmeion iwna tou profhtou kai katalipwn autouj aphlqen 16:4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.
16:5 Et cum venissent discipuli ejus trans fretum, obliti sunt panes accipere. 16:5 kai elqontej oi maqhtai autou eij to peran epelaqonto artouj labein 16:5 And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.
16:6 Qui dixit illis: Intuemini, et cavete a fermento pharisæorum et sadducæorum. 16:6 o de ihsouj eipen autoij orate kai prosexete apo thj zumhj twn farisaiwn kai saddoukaiwn 16:6 Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
16:7 At illi cogitabant intra se dicentes: Quia panes non accepimus. 16:7 oi de dielogizonto en eautoij legontej oti artouj ouk elabomen 16:7 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread.
16:8 Sciens autem Jesus, dixit: Quid cogitatis intra vos modicæ fidei, quia panes non habetis? 16:8 gnouj de o ihsouj eipen autoij ti dialogizesqe en eautoij oligopistoi oti artouj ouk elabete 16:8 Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?
16:9 Nondum intelligitis, neque recordamini quinque panum in quinque millia hominum, et quot cophinos sumpsistis? 16:9 oupw noeite oude mnhmoneuete touj pente artouj twn pentakisxiliwn kai posouj kofinouj elabete 16:9 Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
Matthew 16:10 neque septem panum in quatuor millia hominum, et quot sportas sumpsistis? Matthew 16:10 oude touj epta artouj twn tetrakisxiliwn kai posaj spuridaj elabete Matthew 16:10 Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
16:11 Quare non intelligitis, quia non de pane dixi vobis: Cavete a fermento pharisæorum et sadducæorum? 16:11 pwj ou noeite oti ou peri artou eipon umin prosexein apo thj zumhj twn farisaiwn kai saddoukaiwn 16:11 How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?
16:12 Tunc intellexerunt quia non dixerit cavendum a fermento panum, sed a doctrina pharisæorum et sadducæorum. 16:12 tote sunhkan oti ouk eipen prosexein apo thj zumhj tou artou all apo thj didaxhj twn farisaiwn kai saddoukaiwn 16:12 Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
16:13 Venit autem Jesus in partes Cæsareæ Philippi: et interrogabat discipulos suos, dicens: Quem dicunt homines esse Filium hominis? 16:13 elqwn de o ihsouj eij ta merh kaisareiaj thj filippou hrwta touj maqhtaj autou legwn tina me legousin oi anqrwpoi einai ton uion tou anqrwpou 16:13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
16:14 At illi dixerunt: Alii Joannem Baptistam, alii autem Eliam, alii vero Jeremiam, aut unum ex prophetis. 16:14 oi de eipon oi men iwannhn ton baptisthn alloi de hlian eteroi de ieremian h ena twn profhtwn 16:14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
16:15 Dicit illis Jesus: Vos autem, quem me esse dicitis? 16:15 legei autoij umeij de tina me legete einai 16:15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16:16 Respondens Simon Petrus dixit: Tu es Christus, Filius Dei vivi. 16:16 apokriqeij de simwn petroj eipen su ei o xristoj o uioj tou qeou tou zwntoj 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
16:17 Respondens autem Jesus, dixit ei: Beatus es Simon Bar Jona: quia caro et sanguis non revelavit tibi, sed Pater meus, qui in cælis est. 16:17 kai apokriqeij o ihsouj eipen autw makarioj ei simwn bar iwna oti sarc kai aima ouk apekaluyen soi all o pathr mou o en toij ouranoij 16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
16:18 Et ego dico tibi, quia tu es Petrus, et super hanc petram ædificabo Ecclesiam meam, et portæ inferi non prævalebunt adversus eam. 16:18 kagw de soi legw oti su ei petroj kai epi tauth th petra oikodomhsw mou thn ekklhsian kai pulai adou ou katisxusousin authj 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
16:19 Et tibi dabo claves regni cælorum. Et quodcumque ligaveris super terram, erit ligatum et in cælis: et quodcumque solveris super terram, erit solutum et in cælis. 16:19 kai dwsw soi taj kleij thj basileiaj twn ouranwn kai o ean dhshj epi thj ghj estai dedemenon en toij ouranoij kai o ean lushj epi thj ghj estai lelumenon en toij ouranoij 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Matthew 16:20 Tunc præcepit discipulis suis ut nemini dicerent quia ipse esset Jesus Christus. Matthew 16:20 tote diesteilato toij maqhtaij autou ina mhdeni eipwsin oti autoj estin ihsouj o xristoj Matthew 16:20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.
16:21 Exinde cœpit Jesus ostendere discipulis suis, quia oporteret eum ire Jerosolymam, et multa pati a senioribus, et scribis, et principibus sacerdotum, et occidi, et tertia die resurgere. 16:21 apo tote hrcato o ihsouj deiknuein toij maqhtaij autou oti dei auton apelqein eij ierosoluma kai polla paqein apo twn presbuterwn kai arxierewn kai grammatewn kai apoktanqhnai kai th trith hmera egerqhnai 16:21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
16:22 Et assumens eum Petrus, cœpit increpare illum dicens: Absit a te, Domine: non erit tibi hoc. 16:22 kai proslabomenoj auton o petroj hrcato epitiman autw legwn ilewj soi kurie ou mh estai soi touto 16:22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.
16:23 Qui conversus, dixit Petro: Vade post me Satana, scandalum es mihi: quia non sapis ea quæ Dei sunt, sed ea quæ hominum. 16:23 o de strafeij eipen tw petrw upage opisw mou satana skandalon mou ei oti ou froneij ta tou qeou alla ta twn anqrwpwn 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
16:24 Tunc Jesus dixit discipulis suis: Si quis vult post me venire, abneget semetipsum, et tollat crucem suam, et sequatur me. 16:24 tote o ihsouj eipen toij maqhtaij autou ei tij qelei opisw mou elqein aparnhsasqw eauton kai aratw ton stauron autou kai akolouqeitw moi 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
16:25 Qui enim voluerit animam suam salvam facere, perdet eam: qui autem perdiderit animam suam propter me, inveniet eam. 16:25 oj gar an qelh thn yuxhn autou swsai apolesei authn oj d an apolesh thn yuxhn autou eneken emou eurhsei authn 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
16:26 Quid enim prodest homini, si mundum universum lucretur, animæ vero suæ detrimentum patiatur? aut quam dabit homo commutationem pro anima sua? 16:26 ti gar wfeleitai anqrwpoj ean ton kosmon olon kerdhsh thn de yuxhn autou zhmiwqh h ti dwsei anqrwpoj antallagma thj yuxhj autou 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
16:27 Filius enim hominis venturus est in gloria Patris sui cum angelis suis: et tunc reddet unicuique secundum opera ejus. 16:27 mellei gar o uioj tou anqrwpou erxesqai en th doch tou patroj autou meta twn aggelwn autou kai tote apodwsei ekastw kata thn pracin autou 16:27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
16:28 Amen dico vobis, sunt quidam de hic stantibus, qui non gustabunt mortem, donec videant Filium hominis venientem in regno suo. 16:28 amhn legw umin eisin tinej twn wde esthkotwn oitinej ou mh geuswntai qanatou ewj an idwsin ton uion tou anqrwpou erxomenon en th basileia autou 16:28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
